Check out this small Victorian structure built over a spring that supplied the town with its water during the mining days. It was named after a brewery that was across the street, but burned down in 1889.

This one is super close to the house, just make a left when you exit the house and walk up Silver st. until you reach the trailhead. On this hike you’ll have great views of the town, see historic mining ruins, and the memorial of a beloved resident of the town during the mining boom. An Englishman named Clifford Griffin ventured to Colorado in the 1860’s after suffering a massive heartbreak, losing his soon-to-be wife the night before their wedding. Although he was quite the success after discovering a vein of ore, he was socially withdrawn, spending most of his time with his violin. Outside the cabin he built close to the mine he and his brother ran, he would play to the whole town as it echoed off of the mountains. Sadly, Griffin decided to end his suffering, as they heard a gunshot ring out in the silence following his last performance. You can pay homage and stand on the very ledge he used to play on. (3.7 miles, out and back, moderate, elev. gain 1200 ft)

The name may state Georgetown, but you can actually hitch a ride in town! See some incredible views of the mountains on this steam powered engine during a 2 mile round trip. Fun for kids and adults alike. Your conductor may just be the Mayor of Silver Plume, or his daughter who is one of 7 female steam engine conductors in the country. Their family has been working on railroads for a few generations. A beloved attraction in this area.

Located smack between Silver Plume and Dillon on I-70, but technically has a Dillon address. This hike a small part of the Continental Divide, and is a perfect day hike in the area. Great wildflower viewing in the Summer, and snowshoeing in the winter. Keep an eye on the weather, as you will be above treeline and heavily exposed on your adventures. This hike will give you incredible views of the Front Range, and knock out two 14ers in one swoop. A 4WD and ground clearance equipped vehicle are needed to access the trailhead, though 2WD with ground clearance may be alright ( I would not recommend it, it gets dicey). Regardless, sedans will have to hang back in the dirt parking area on Barkerville Rd. and walk to the trailhead. This is a heavily trafficked hike in the Summer. Winter hikers will require traction gear, poles, an axe, and will be adding about 3 miles because the road to the trailhead is closed. Snow begins to pile up here in early October, so just keep that in mind. (8.1 miles, out and back, difficult, elev. gain 3,622 ft)
