Drinks & Nightlife

Across the street, Prost is warm pub with communal tables and a destination patio serving hard-to-find German beers, sausages & pretzels. This place is perfect for groups. Very friendly staff that genuinely want you to enjoy your time. If you have three or more, get a boot (yes, like in Beerfest). Theres only three rules: minimum of three to a boot; two hands at all times and you cannot set it down. If you break any of these they make you get up on the bar and sing Danke Shoen with a neck tie around your head. If you’re into tasty light beer and a good time, Prost is your place. Get here early!

Directly across the street. Three outdoor fire pits are going as long as the booze is flowing. Pool table and board games upstairs, hammocks in back, friendly staff behind the bar. *Noteworthy: criscut fries.

A short walk over to Interstate, this authentic (emphasis here) tiki karaoke bar is a destination for locals. Despite being visible for miles (you'll see why as you approach), not many visitors know of it. It is a Portland Institution. This is a serious karaoke scene, so be prepared to sing. Fish bowls help.

This is a restaurant and bar, however I’ve yet to actually eat here so I’m putting it in this category. Besides, its bar is beautiful… and it serves pitchers of Manhattans.

Usually referred to as 'Bar Bar', this is probably the most popular bar in NE PDX. Frequently a twenty-somethings haunt after the older/wiser go to bed. Full bar here, but I recommend a tecate and veggie burger w/ freedom fries. Seating inside can be hard to find, but the patio is heated and has a roaring fire pit. Weeknights the patio has classic movies playing or ‘the big game.'

Essentials

For those that indulge in cannabis, directly across the street from you is Nectar, one of the finer pot shops downtown has to offer. I recommend you browse their website as they keep a more up-to-date menu. I’ll take this opportunity to remind you that that smoking is prohibited in the unit and on the porch, however edibles and vaporization are welcome.

Food Scene

It blows my mind that this isn’t on Mississippi Ave. website, but in my mind this coffee shop is one of the best representations of the Portland coffee scene. Its an institution… legend has it, it is Jerry Seinfeld’s favorite shop in town. It’s just one block away and has free refills.

Need a table to sit and work or just more space for a group? Albina is just north of the building about 2 blocks and is just that. The staff here are the best (meaning they’re as kind as they are great baristas).

I have a love affair with this place. In my humble opinion there are two types of Thai food… high end sit-downs or your local take-out joint. This is the latter, but the best version of it you’re going to get.

Its a taqueria, and a good one at that. You can tell by the line that forms 30 mins prior to opening and grows into the afternoon. Good news is it moves quick and they provide umbrellas.

Okay, let’s acknowledge that opinions on pizza range widely and are very subjective. Mine is that this is the best in town. Trick is that you have to order a fresh pie. By the slice is good, but fresh is life. Live music next door at the Atlantis Lounge every night of the week.

Shopping

Frequently referred to as, ‘my favorite shop in Portland,’ Paxton Gate is boutique specializing in taxidermy, fossils, framed insects, science kits, jewelry & plants. It is a collection of the rare and fascinating. It is in the building and highly recommended for a visit. Kill time or find your next cantaloupe-turned-desk lamp.
