The famous Balos lagoon is covered with white sand next to a rocky landscape and the blue sea. The white sand covers the bottom of the sea and grants to the sea an emerald color. You can get a boat from the port of Kissamos at about 10 am to visit the Balos lagoon, otherwise you have to go on foot. The road to the beach stops about 2 km before it and the visitor has to follow a pave road with gorgeous views to reach it. It takes about half an hour to go down, and the climb up in the end of the day, when you come back, is much more difficult. One beach canteen is provided.

A quite untouched and unexplored beach area, used many times as a free camping spot or as a beach for naturists. It is actually a cedar forest next to the beach. At the end of the gravel road you need to do some hiking for about 15-20 minutes.

The Gorge of Samaria is 16 km long (the longest Gorge in Europe) and it is situated in the National park of Samaria, 43 km south from the city of Chania in the White Mountains in west Crete. The Samaria Gorge is an area of stunning natural beauty, passing through forests of ancient cypresses and pines. The Gorge of Samaria is starting at an altitude of 1250 m (at Xyloskalo at the end of the village of Omalos), taking you all the way down to the shores of the Libyan sea in Agia Roumeli through the narrow Sidesportes or "Iron Gates" (rocky walls that rise up to 500 metres with only 3 meters wide).
