Sightseeing

Especially good for rainy days, the tours are interesting and informational on how our area was previously a booming mining town(s). Calumet was almost named our state's capital!

Parks & Nature

Lake Superior has so many beautiful shores and this is on one of them. It is a hidden gem of a beach and one can often have it nearly all to themselves. Many beautiful rocks and driftwood can be found here.

Copper Harbor is located at the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula. The views from Brockway Mountain are beautiful and the drive up is gorgeous, especially in the fall with the changing leaves. I recommend going one way on US41 and taking M26 on the return (or vice versa). This way you can make sure not to miss stops such as Eagle Harbor, Eagle River and Great Sand Bay.

Another beautiful Lake Superior beach...it's sand is great and the water is crystal clear. Plus, there are views are so pretty. It is rarely crowded. While in the area, check out Mount Bohemia or hike up Bare Bluff.

In the early 1900's White City was a premiere summer resort with hotel-restaurant-saloon, amusement park with roller coaster and merry-go-round, rental cottages, dance pavilion, bandstand and a 75 foot steamer dock. Excursion boats ran several times a day from the Houghton/Hancock area. Now, it is a beautiful spot to land on a hot, sunny summer day. Clean, clear water and a sandy beach as well as a pier and a lighthouse are what attracts people to the area now. A fun place to go to on a boat (and much quicker).

Another beautiful Lake Superior beach! A fun stop on the way there or back is to visit the waterfront park in L'Anse. On Thursday nights they have a concert there and it's always relaxing to listen to while enjoying the water.

Located less than a mile away is this wonderful nature park. You can cross country ski, snow shoe, bike, hike or enjoy the sledding hill (requires a short walk through the woods but is worth it!). There is also a cozy chalet on the property as well.

A great ski hill for downhill skiers and snowboarders...we get quite a bit of snow every year but even on the years where it's not as much, Mont Ripley makes its own snow. There is also a tubing park here for those that may not want to ski.
