This beautiful lagoon is surrounded by the majestic fauna of the jungle, with a little rustic facilities but a unique charm. It is perfect for families because the lagoon is endless and the area is very safe. Locals recommend to avoid sunblock or repellent before getting into the water. You can use it afterwards, of course, but if you bring it they will ask you to leave it at the entrance and return for it later. You can bring your own food and beverages, but for the beer the permitted is a six pack maximum per family. There are around 6 family tables with seats where you can have lunch. Pets are not allowed. The parking area is large enough to have cars, bikes and motorcycles. The access is $60.00 pesos per person and it is payable in cash (US dollars accepted) upon arrival. The lagoon welcomes visitors every day of the week and from 9:00am to 5:00pm (low season) or from 9:00am to 6:00pm during high season.

One of the best cenotes in Tulum is Dos Ojos. Dos Ojos translates to ‘Two Eyes'. It is named this way because there are two 70-meter (230 ft) sinkholes that are connected through a passageway. This cenote is a great place to swim and hang around for a few hours, it is located 30 minutes northeast from Tulum. The cost to visit is $200 pesos or about $14 USD, and you can rent snorkeling equipment for an additional $100 pesos. If you have a diving certificate, you can even go diving through the mystical caves, which are around 61 km long! This experience is well worth it. I recommend getting to Cenote Dos Ojos early in the morning so you can have the place to yourself. The morning light also reflects through one of the cenotes, which helps with bringing out the vibrant blue colors.

Gran Cenote is one of the largest swimmable sinkholes in the entirety of the Yucutan Peninsula. Located about halfway between Tulum and Playa del Carmen, it is a collection of smaller caves connected by wooden walkways. It’s a great place to swim, snorkel with turtles and dive amid some pretty cool geological features, including stalagmites and stalactites, explore the underwater caves, and also visit with children since there are shallow areas to swim in. Make sure to visit early in the morning or just before closing time to avoid the crowds, The standard entry price is $180 MXN or $9 USD.
