If you take the "short-cut" via Fessenheim it is only 59km by car (trust me, there is a bridge and it is open for cars even if your navigation system will try to guide you via Mulhouse). After the city-tour try the old student´s favourite St. Valentin in the Valentinstr. 100 in 79100 Freiburg. It is in the forest a bit out of town but worth the detour.

Mulhouse is much better than its reputation. Our favorite is the market on a Saturday morning where you have to try the oysters (with or without Crémant). On a rainy day the incredible collection of cars in the www.citedelautomobile.com is a must.

On a hot day you have to try the "Rheinschwimmen" which has a long tradition in Basel.
On a rainy day please do not miss the incredible www.fondationbeyeler.ch !

For us by far the best restaurant in town. The lunch menu at 20EUR (2021) is incredible value for money.

When you like hiking and biking in the Vosges mountains any ferme auberge is worth a visit. But the terrasse and the food in the ferme auberge Uff Rain is outstanding. Please take a reservation well in advance !

Not a place we would recommend if it wasn´t for the supermarket "Le Grand Frais" https://www.grandfrais.com . A chain that is well-known in France in the meantime. If you are not French and/or you do not know Le Grand Frais you should see this "different" supermarket.

Neighborhoods
We would not ask you to drive to La Bresse if it wasn´t for the www.bol-d-air.fr which is great fun for kids and "older kids". Especially flying over the valley at more than 100km/h on a cable. Many slopes through the Vosges to get there but a nice road partly on the "route de crêtes".

During the season of "asparagus" (May/June) do not miss the farm of Haenni https://www.asperge-haenni.fr in order to try some white asparagus with a local white wine on your terrasse at home.
