About 2 miles from our Airbnb, Alki is a popular beach with views of Puget Sound, a walking path, volleyball courts & restaurants. Beautiful beach for walking or sitting, lots of food options nearby. Options for bike and paddleboard rentals available. Alki Beach is the site of the landing of the first white settlers in Seattle on a cold, stormy day in November of 1851. Chief Seattle and his tribe greeted them and helped them build their cabin to stave off the cold, wet winter.

The Ballard Locks controls access between Lake Union and the Puget Sound. The fish ladder lets Salmon swim between the two — during late summer and early fall you can watch hundreds of Salmon gather to make the leap. Sometimes you can also spot orcas and seals playing in the current of the locks. There's also a lovely botanical garden in the park! 3015 NW 54th St, Seattle, WA 98107 https://www.nws.usace.army.mil/Missions/Civil-Works/Locks-and-Dams/Chittenden-Locks/

Post Alley smells delicious, it's right next to the Pike Place Market near the flying fish. The tradition began around 1993 when patrons of Unexpected Productions' Seattle Theatresports stuck gum to the wall and placed coins in the gum blobs. Theater workers scraped the gum away twice, but eventually gave up after market officials deemed the gum wall a tourist attraction around 1999.
