If you like to walk, run, or bike, this is a great trail. There's a distillery and brewery along the way. You'll have a couple of restaurants to choose from. This side of the beltline is a little more preserved, less busy, and not as built up as other sections. It is 2.7 miles from the Airbnb.

The Atlanta BeltLine is the most comprehensive revitalization effort ever undertaken in the City of Atlanta. The Beltline is a former railway corridor around the core of Atlanta, under development in stages as a multi-use trail. Some portions are already complete, while others are still in a rough state but hikeable. The East Side Trail is where the Beltline started and is the most built up. You will find plenty of restaurants, bars, breweries, and sites to see, including Piedmont Park. This side is usually pretty congested so be careful if you choose to bike! This section is 5.7 miles from the Airbnb. Visit the Beltline website for more info: https://beltline.org

Sweetwater Creek is a well-loved and ultra-popular state park near Atlanta, located just outside the city near Atlanta’s west side perimeter. It’s ruggedly beautiful, rolling and rocky, lush and green, and easily accessible but wild. And the park is steeped in history, too: it’s home to the towering brick ruins of the New Manchester Mill, an iconic and solemn shell of a structure that was destroyed in the Civil War, and a filming location for The Hunger Games. You can walk, hike, run, bike, and paddle boat/kayak here! The park is about 12 miles from the Airbnb. Visit this website for more info: https://www.atlantatrails.com/sweetwater-creek-state-park/

I know a cemetery as an attraction seems odd, but this place is one of my favorites! There is something so peaceful and sacred about it. Oakland Cemetery is Atlanta’s oldest public park and the final resting place of many of the city’s most noted citizens. Less than a mile from downtown, its 48 acres are full of treasures – history and gardens, sculpture and architecture, ancient oaks and magnolias. It’s a wedding venue, a green space, an art gallery, a classroom space, and a place to celebrate the city’s rich and fascinating past and future. 5.3 miles from Airbnb. https://oaklandcemetery.com

Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area preserves a series of sites between Atlanta and Lake Sidney Lanier along the Chattahoochee River. The 48-mile stretch of the river affords public recreation opportunities and access to historic sites. Any trail head along the Chattahoochee is great. Many have kayak launch sites. This was the reason I moved to the West side of Atlanta. This park is expected to be the largest green space in Atlanta, larger than Piedmont Park offering beautiful sky-line views (especially at night) - 2 miles from the Airbnb: The first phase of the park is now open. Construction is underway on other phases of Westside Park. The Atlanta BeltLine Partnership is currently fundraising to support the build-out of the park as it will connect to the Westside beltline trail. Warning, this park is hilly and a challenge for those with disabilities. You’ll definitely want to wear comfy clothes and shoes walking through here.

Hip Cabbagetown is an artsy neighborhood with cozy eateries serving burgers and hot dogs, brunch and Southern specialties. Colorful 1800s mill cottages with double-height porches line the narrow streets, and striking street art covers the Krog Street Tunnel, tucked beneath rail tracks. You'll find Krog Street Market and Oakland Cemetery in this neighborhood.

The birth place of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (enough said-that alone is reason to visit this area). A former industrial area, the Old Fourth Ward is a trendy hub attracting foodies and shoppers. Hip eateries and indie fashion stores fill Ponce City Market, in the vast 1920s Sears, Roebuck & Co. building, while Irwin Street Market is a cozier spot offering artisan foods. I used to live in this area and absolutely loved it! The Atlanta BeltLine’s Eastside Trail runs through O4W. You will find plenty of shops and restaurants in Ponce City Market off the Beltline here. It’s one of Atlanta's defining urban districts, combining great shopping and exceptional dining. No matter the season, Midtown brings inspired performances, exceptional museums and attractions, and dynamic festivals and events. All amid a vibrant, authentic and walkable urban environment, with the city’s largest concentration of parks and greenspace. This is a hub for LGBTQ+ and home to Piedmont Park. I also used to live in Midtown and enjoyed the proximity to such great amenities.

Stylish Buckhead is known for its upscale malls and the independent art galleries that cluster around Miami Circle and Bennett Street. Chicly dressed locals frequent the trendy restaurants along Peachtree Road and Roswell Road, while twenty-somethings hang out at lively bars and clubs. Regional history is on display at the Greek Revival-style Governor’s Mansion and at the Atlanta History Center. If you want expensive and classy, this area is for you! Lenox Mall, Phipps Plaza, and more are here in Buckhead. Be careful in Lenox. Although this area is affluent, there have been several shootings at Lenox Mall. I lived in Buckhead for a period of time. Close proximity to fine dining and living was very nice.

Getting around

411 on Atlanta

1) Traffic in Atlanta is horrible and people cannot drive. I am sorry to say it. You need to be a defensive driver in Atlanta! Marta is our public transit which can be great, but it is not well connected and can take 3x longer to get where you need to be. 2) Atlanta has very cute neighborhoods that seem safe but the next street over can appear completely opposite. Lock your car and keep all valuables out of sight if you are driving. 3) Travel with a buddy if possible and I highly recommend not being out past midnight. 4) Gunshots and fireworks are “a thing” in Atlanta in case you hear them.
