Sightseeing

Welcome to the Mt. Everest of shopping and indoor entertainment in North America. Spanning the equivalent of 48 city blocks, West Edmonton Mall is part entertainment complex, part shopping and dining destination. Let out a gasp of excitement as you slip in from the cold into the tropical setting of World Waterpark, home to the world’s largest indoor wave pool. Later, climb aboard a full-size pirate ship, or skate beneath the stars under a glass dome. Afterward, check out the casino, movie theatres, mini golf courses, catch penguins frolicking at Sea Life Caverns or meet Pablo at the Sea Lions' Rock. Hungry after riding a Galaxyland roller coaster for the fourth time? Stroll down New Orleans-themed Bourbon street for some fine dining, then take in a live show. Or hit Chinatown and shop the colourful T & T Asian Market. Plan on spending at least a full day (and night) of shopping, playing, and indulging. The place is as big spirited as all of Alberta.

In this small town sits the largest National Park in the Canadian Rockies and it's part of the UNESCO'S World Heritage Site. Best for campers, sightseeing, canoeing, and biking. In winter there are still a lot of activities to do.

Neighbourhoods

The neighborhood is located in the northeast quadrant of the city of Edmonton. It's a very new neighborhood established less than 15 years ago. It's tranquil, safe, and family-friendly. It has all the amenities, including public transit, shopping centers, and convenience stores. Restaurants, bars, and coffee shops are all in walking distance. There's about 3 playing ground parks for children and adults. Mcconanchie is also in very close driving distance to major shopping malls, leisure centers, arenas and golf courses.

City/town information

I've only been there twice for the same event - Air Show. I don't know how much you are into planes, but I think they are just cool. The Cold Lake Air Show is such an exhilarating event. It normally takes place in the summer around mid-July. Always check out their website (https://coldlakeairshow.com) for updates. In brief, it's a show where the Canadian Air Force demonstrates different skills of maneuvering fighter jets - the Snowbirds. The most spectacular scene to me is the parachute team that jumps off the plane all the to the ground as you watch them.

Traveler advice

Getting around

Always double-check addresses. Easy to get lost around here

McConachie is still all new and sometimes the address you get takes you far from the actual address and you literally have to get verbal guidance. It's better to plan ahead and ask for clear direction and landmarks to watch for.
Customs and culture

Edmonton Heritage Festival

It's the "the world's largest outdoor celebration of multiculturalism" sponsored by government organizations, corporations, cultural centers, and religious groups.
Don't miss

Edmonton Ice castle

Ice Castles is an award-winning frozen attraction. The experience is built using hundreds of thousands of icicles hand-placed by professional ice artists. The castles include breathtaking LED-lit sculptures, frozen thrones, ice-carved tunnels, slides, fountains and much more. The acre-sized winter wonderland resembling Disney-esque ice castles will not be returning this year to Edmonton due to COVID-19.
