One of the original Roman neighborhoods now on the map but still off the beaten path. Testaccio, like our Celio neighborhood, is one of the most historic and characteristic of Rome as a city. Testaccio is where you will find old-school trattorias serving classic Roman dishes at all hours of the day.

A charming and characteristic neighborhood of Rome, on the other side of the Tiber River, known for its cobblestone alleys and sprawling artistic piazzas. This neighborhood is as famous for its street food (suppli, trappizzino, pizza rossa) as it is many notable restaurants some of which are Michelin-starred. You can also find as many churches as you can artisanal trendy shops. It is definitely worth a visit.

Food scene

A Roman style pizzeria (read: very thin crust) that has been a longstanding staple of the neighborhood and loved by Romans, locals, and tourists alike. Definitely try their fried starters and their famous pizzas with classic toppings. Open only for dinner (as traditionally it should be!).

Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, this casual and cute café (if you couldn’t tell by its name) serving a little of everything has been in the neighborhood for over 15 years which is a testament considering the wave of tourism that has vastly converted our once traditional and local Celio area.

A wonderful gelateria serving classic flavors along with unique new flavors using ingredients from all over the world. Located in a picturesque piazza, if the weather permits, you can enjoy your ice cream outdoors on one of the benches in the piazza.

Traveler advice

Getting around

Rome is a city best seen on foot by walking or by bicycle.

The public transportation is functional, at best. There are many workers and union strikes that can delay or stop service altogether. It is pretty unreliable. The metro is the most reliable of all Rome public transport and quite fast to get around different areas of the city.
Don't miss

Don't miss the tour around Rome in a vintage convertible.

Many of our must-do recommendations have been altered due to Covid. However, a wonderful and safe way to see Rome and take beautiful photos and videos is from a vintage convertible car ride Dolce Vita style. We can arrange a ride around Rome for you and one other person. We can accommodate up to six people in three separate cars.
