Neighborhoods

The Central West End is a 10 minute drive away. Many tourist spots including Cathedral Basilica, World Chess Hall of Fame (where kids can play with life size chess pieces), Forest Park, St. Louis Zoo, History Museum, Art Museum, Annual Neighborhood Halloween Block Party. Not to mention many hotspots for the food scene including El Burro Loco, Scape, Juniper, Taste, Brasserie, Bar Italia, Subzero, Thai 202, Evangeline’s, Retreat Gastropub, Yellowbelly, Mission Taco for $2 tacos and $2 shots after 10pm daily, and Cafe Osage is my favorite brunch/breakfast spot. The last spot worth mentioning would be UPDOWN the new neighborhood adult arcade bar.

Downtown is a 15 minute drive and is known for the retro-style Busch Stadium ballpark and the Gateway Arch, an iconic city symbol soaring over the Mississippi shore. Ballpark Village has sports bars and burger restaurants, while Washington Avenue offers Tex-Mex, BBQ and Italian eateries. Popular attractions include the Dome at America’s Center arena which hosts big-name concerts and sports, and the St. Louis Blues Museum. I would be more careful walking and wondering these streets at night, especially if there isn’t a game at night or in an area that is isolated.

The Delmar Loop is a buzzing entertainment and dining hub with an eclectic mix of noodle bars, BBQ restaurants, Korean and Mexican eateries, cocktail lounges and pubs lining Delmar Boulevard. Well-known locals with stars on the St. Louis Walk of Fame include Maya Angelou and Betty Grable, as well as Chuck Berry, whose statue is nearby. Music venues like the Pageant and Delmar Hall stage rock, roots and indie gigs.
