Opened in the summer of 2017, Ledger is located in one of Salem's many old banks and its name is a nod to Salem's historical status in banking. Try making a meal out of the appetizer menu.

The best (and closest) seafood reataurant with raw bar. Make reservations or come early and grab a seat at one of the two bars (I like the left bar, where I can watch them shuck oysters). Try the crabcake appetizer, cup of the lobster bisque, or one of the specials. Note: Turner's is located in Lyceum Hall, where Alexander Grahm Bell first demonstrated an incredible new piece of technology - the telephone.

What's not to love about this place? Funky atmosphere, rotating art on display, wi-fi, an array of coffee, tea, fresh juices, and great sandwiches. My favorites: 4-shot iced coffee, kale-cucumber-apple-lime juice, and "the Jerome" sandwich - roast beef goodness, grilled on Scali bread.

Mmmmm... meat lovers and scratch kitchen aficionados, rejoice! Casual dining atmosphere, sandwiches, salads, beer and wine. Try the SK Smoked Pork Panini El “Cubano” or just a side of the House Smoked Bacon. Have yet to make it to their Sunday Brunch, but both the Scratch Salmon Lox and Buttermilk Biscuits & Gravy look very tasty.

Drinks & Nightlife

Come here for a unique and memorable cocktail. Or, go through the speakeasy side entrance to get to Opus Underground, an intimate lounge area that has live music on the weekends. Solid beer list and snacks downstairs. Seems to cater to a mid to late 20s crowd.

This is an interesting spot that I haven't fully explored yet. They are a "member's library" which means that they have a collection of old books that reflect what the people of Salem would have been reading in the olden days. I think. They put on events and host writing courses as well. One of my favorite events was an evening of Storytelling.

Parks & Nature

One of my favorite places to go for a nature walk. Popular place for dog walking as well. Pick up a map at the Visitor's Center for information on the hiking trails, or simply follow the paved path for a loop. About 1/2 way on the paved path is a small beach and swimming area.
