Neighbourhoods

Our favourite and must see neighbourhoods in Toronto!
The stretch of King West between Spadina Ave and Bathurst St is all about the restaurants – you can’t go wrong! There is everything from the best chicken sandwiches in Toronto (Porchetta & co. $.) to fancy roof top pool bars (Lavelle $$$.) I personally love Wilbur Mexicana for lunch ($$) and Buca ($$$) is my favourite restaurant in the entire city. Wvurst ($) is one of the best beer bars in the city, and Belfast Love ($) is a busy, cool bar to go to as well.

West Queen West is a stretch of Queen Street between Bathurst and Dufferin. This is best for shopping! You could spend your whole day just walking down exploring the shops. One of the best Italian, Terroni ($$) is here, as well as a great pizza place called North of Brooklyn ($.) The Drake Hotel ($$$) is also an amazing place to go for brunch, dinner, or nightlife. Otto’s Bier Hall ($) is also a really fun spot to go – food and drinks aside it was voted ‘best washroom in Toronto.’ If you go, you will see why!

Kensington Market is easily one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the city, especially in the summer! There are live performers on the streets, lots of different vintage shops and a taste of every culture you can imagine. Seven Lives ($) is known for their fish tacos and Wanda’s Pie in the Sky ($) has some of the best pie options the city has to offer! Rasta Pasta ($) is an Italian Jamaican fusion joint, and just outside the market is Raman Isshan ($) – I eat there more than I care to admit.

This is one of those hidden gems in Toronto where all the locals tend to go. Plan to come here for dinner and drinks. If you like beer AT ALL you HAVE to go to Bellwoods Brewery ($$.) There will probably be a wait, but WAIT – it is one of the most renowned microbreweries in Canada. Superpoint ($$) and Paris Paris ($$) are both amazing and Pho Tien Thanh ($) is some of the best pho in the city. Same rule as King West applies here – EVERYTHING is very good (or it doesn’t last long!) so if something catches your eye – head on in.

One of the best areas in the city! El Catrin ($$$) is my favourite there and was votes to have one of the best patios in the city. There is a brewery, a distillery, an amazing chocolate shop and lots of other stuff to see. Worth a visit!

Into fashion? Star gazing? Come here! This is where all the designer shops are and where all the celebs go. There are a lot of great restaurants up here as well - Café Nervosa ($$$) is GREAT though I’m not going to lie I only went there because Beyoncé did. Pasta was flawless.

Food scene

This is NEXT DOOR to our apartment at Bathurst and Front! It’s just opened and is a shipping container village including tons of shops, a doughnut shop called Doughnut Monster ($) and the Belgian Moon Brewery ($.)

This was named the best Thai food in the city and I totally agree. The deep-fried squash is my favourite appetizer – I recommend sharing a few different things with the table.

One of my absolute favourite brunch places! Up in the Annex, another great neighbourhood in the city. The ‘sauced’ hashbrowns are THE BEST!

These are actually all over the city but this is our favourite local coffee shop. At King and Portland, just an 8 minute walk away from the apartment, are two of them literally across the street from each other. I haven’t quite figured that out yet…so pick whichever one tickles your fancy!

This is my favourite patio in the city as it overlooks the lake. Great, non-complicated pub food and locally made craft beer. Great atmosphere inside too if you don’t want to wait, or it’s too cold for the patio!
