Sedona Hiking

From gentle nature walking to more challenging hikes - all Sedona's hiking offers spectacular views & red rock cairns that mark and "guide" you along the main trails. Pay attention to the trail maps (or take a pic with your smart phone for easy reference). Carry plenty of water! If you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated. Remember to "sip, sip, sip", not "gulp, gulp, gulp" to keep the most hydrated. A good rule of thumb is about 2 quarts minimum/per person for hikes under 6 miles. There are several hiking books available throughout town. My personal favorites are by local author, Dennis Andres. You can also find many recommendations on Trip Advisor. Most trail heads can easily be found on main search engines.
One of my personal favorites. Spectacular colors in the rain! Easy walk. Park at the Trailhead off Soldiers Pass road. It is a short hike in to view the Sinkhole. See trailhead map for area loops, depending on the distance you want to hike.

Flat. Wear water shoes, as you cross the creek multiple times (stone stepping). A great hike in when the weather is warmer, as it tends to be about 10 degrees cooler. Shade. Lots of trees.

200’ elevation early in the trail, then beautiful vistas of Courthouse Butte from a distance. It is an out and back, and you can turn around whenever you want, but if you did most of it, it would be 6 miles roundtrip.

Points of Interest

Here are some points of interest when visiting Sedona. I note some personal favorites & "extra" things I enjoy.
Always a joy to stroll through. Check the current events. Some of my special "not to be missed" events include live Flamenco music by Gaetano & Friends April - October on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday nights 5:30-7:30pm. Amazing musicians, intimate setting in the Courtyard outside. In addition, check out "First Friday" - art walk (also throughout Sedona) for wine tastings, appetizers & an opportunity to meet local artists! Halloween & Christmas season, check the dates for special events that transform the Village into quite a spectacular sight!

If you're up for a drive, Antelope Canyon is a spectacular tour, with a stop at Horseshoe Bend (self-guided) along the way. It's an easy drive. Antelope Canyon does require a guide which is available on-site. They do sell out, so reservations are recommended. I have taken the basic tour to the Lower Canyon - very reasonable. Check online for the various tours avaiable.
