Food Scene

Here you have a small selection of some of my favorite restaurants in Porto! They aren't the most fancy or the most exclusive restaurants, however are the ones I know you will find friendly people with good relation between quality and price.
Traditional Restaurant, with good Portuguese food with a great price. Here it seems that the city haven't changed in the last 30 years.

It's a food experience on a great location and with a cool balcony and view over the river. If you're planning to walk by the river this might be a good place to go, just 25 minutes walking distance from the apartment.

Love this place! To have a brunch, a snack during the day, something at lunch or dinner and a drink. Sometimes I go there just to have a coffe, one of the best in town for me, or a cold beer. They have two floors and two entrances, one at Rua do Bolhao and the other at Pátio do Bolhão. Try it and let me know if you enjoyed it. :)

one of the primitive ways to get to the city in the XIII century, and an emergency getaway to escape an attack from the north. For me, it's a quite special way to arrive to the riverside. Remember that the way down it's always easier.

The way you get around the historic center is always special. You can get there either near the entrance of the top slab of D. Luiz Bridge (at the left) or near the lower slab of the same bridge. Normally I do recommend to start on the top. :)

Designed by a Portuguese Pritzker Architect, Alvaro Siza Vieira, in the gardens of a small palace from the 19th century, worth every effort to get there. It's a contemporary art museum where no one stays indifferent. Art, Architecture and Nature all combined in a great spot.

Customs and culture

Atravessar a rua - Crossing the street

When it comes to crossing the street on foot don't try to imitate the locals. There is a habit of not following the rules, passing off the crosswalk or at the red light. It does not mean that it is allowed, or not dangerous. Driving a car in the city center is stressful and not easy, so I advise that wherever you cross the road you never get in front of a car, even on the crosswalks. Do not believe the car sees you and will stop.
