This is Nevada's oldest state park. It features Petroglyphs, and some interesting sandy hikes. There is little shade to be found from the hot Nevada heat, so come prepared. About 1hr from the city.

Sightseeing

The Hoover Dam is a must see. A modern engineering marvel, it's about an hour outside of Vegas. However, Boulder beach is a good halfway point. Making the two an excellent pair for a full day trip.

The Luxor is a truly unique building. One of the must see Casino's on the strip. The entire building is a pyramid, and you can ride the elevators to the top if you want. I suggest stopping on floors 26, and 9 for the best views. It is also connected to the Excalibur.
