Food Scene

My favorite pizza. Great wood-fired pizza, salads, desserts, and local brews on tap. Gluten-free pizza available. Take a loaf of hearth-baked bread to enjoy later or to thank your house-sitter back home! The "Scarface" and a Tuscan Salad is my go-to choice.

I've never been to Thailand (yet!) but this is some of the best and freshest Thai food I've had. The owners are super friendly (though their English is limited), and is their second location.

A community staple going strong since 1999. Best-trained baristas in town, coffee roasted 900ft from the Oatmeal Cottage (across the field). I used to manage this shop in its early days. A+

Cheap lunch in downtown Black Mountain. Get the Pork-A-Cheese. Best sandwich in town. The New Yorker isn't bad either.

You must eat this ice cream before you leave town. Made in-house, it can't be beat. If you can't make up your mind, they'll make your single scoop a split-scoop. Be sure one half is Salted Caramel!!

One of my favorite restaurants in Asheville. Make a reservation. Great cocktails, charming atmosphere, excellent food - orchestral flavor pairings. Most acclaimed recommendation by past guests. A more casual version, En La Calle, is next door

Essentials

My first stop for groceries. While they do offer local, seasonal produce and fresh baked goodies, much of their grocery stock is salvage and closeout goods from health food stores like Whole Foods and Earth Fare. This means you can find great deals on diet-specific foods (GF, Organic, Fair Trade, Wheat Free, Raw, etc), often less than half the price of other stores. Given the nature of the store, the stock isn't always predictable -- you may to need to fill in the gaps at Ingles afterward.
