Beaches

0.3m Our local beach; accessed by crossing the railway at the level crossing to Long Rock beach carpark. Walk through the village along the main road with the Mexico Inn to your left until you reach Enterprise car rental after which you turn left following footpath across railway. The beach is perfect for children. Dog friendly to the right of crossing in Summer but if you would prefer to not spend your beach day with dogs walk left along the foot path and access beach from slope a couple of minutes walk away. When the tide is out the water is shallow and rockpools are revealed. Snorkelling around the rocks at low tide is recommended for the adventurous . During highest tide the beach to the right of crossing can completely disappear and sea becomes deeper more quickly. The Hoxton Special offers kayak, SUP hire and Kite Surfing Lessons. The coastal footpath means both Marazion and Penzance are a 30 min beach walk away. In the winter don some wellies and enjoy a walk across the beach at low tide. Familiarising yourself with tides during your visit will help you enjoy the beach more as it offers different things depending on tide.

11m Our favourite local beach. Stunningly beautiful and very popular surf beach. Lifeguarded during summer months. Children will need to be supervised at all times in the water and read up on your beach safety flags. Arrive before 10am in peak season to ensure a place in the snug beachside carpark. Alternatively there is a large carpark at the top of the cliff that will involve a steep decent and an leg muscle testing ascent at the end of the day. The views from the top carpark are amazing you'll get plenty of time to enjoy them resting on the ascent. Take body boards to fully enjoy this beach (if you want to avoid the unlikely but if it happens painful sting of a weaver fish wear beach shoes in the sea.) In the unlikely event you are stung the lifeguards or surf centre will provide hot water in their hut to neutralise sting. Beachside cafe, toilets and home to Sennen Surf School, lessons, (book in advance) wetsuit and surfboard hire available. Seasonal dog ban

10m Voted the most beautiful beach in the UK and 8th most beautiful in the world. Catapulted to fame on many social media sites. It is stunningly beautiful but it isn't easily accessed and a decent walk and clamber down the cliff is the only way to reach it, so travel light and take the basics. Also your visit must coincide with low tide to be able to explore the whole beach so some forward planning is necessary

Sightseeing

12m To watch a performance here is a truly magical experience, you'll need to plan ahead and book tickets well in advance of your visit, which means it's always a gamble with the weather. Dress warmly and bring plenty of layers and a cushion in a binbag isn't a bad idea to sit on. If you haven't tickets for a performance and would still like to visit you can visit at other times. Top Tip sometimes before a performance the dress rehearsals are held on a Thursday during regular visiting hours so you may get to see the performance for a fraction of the cost.

Walks

iwalk Cornwall app provides some really amazing circular walks and GPS that pings you if you stray off the route and provides you with lots of interesting local information. The South West Coast Path can be easily accessed on both the North and South Coast and there are walking books in the house. My personal favourite sections include; Perranuthnoe to Prussia Cove, Sennen Cove to Lands End, Zennor to Gurnards Head , Lamorna and St Loy and Hell's Mouth to Godrevy

City/town information

7.1m St Ives is an extremely popular seaside town, the easiest and most stressfree way to visit is by train. The carparks get full in peak season and the narrow roads really are not suitable for cars. The branch train from St Erth station hugs the coast so sit on right hand side of the train facing away from the station for a fabulous view. You can start your journey at Penzance or St Erth train station. Recommended for eating Porthmeor Beach Cafe, book well in advance to secure a beach view heated pod and if you're really organised during summer months time your booking to coincide with sunset.
