Food Scene

Great authentic and creative mexican and craft cocktails. Awesome margaritas and weekend brunch. They have another location in Middletown RI - Diego's Barrio Cantina, which is just as good! Best to make a reservation, if you're going for dinner.

This is a great farm market with fruit picking (in-season); fresh fruits and vegetables; house made sandwiches, salads, and soups, bakery items, and much more. Great for lunch and/or picnic items. They even have ice cream (best soft-serve vanilla around).

Getting Around

Almost all parking in Newport is metered or pay lots. Please see the link below for additional info. My favorite is the Long Wharf metered lot. Not too many people know about it, and you can park for up to 9 hours (many other spots have a 3 hour maximum). https://www.discovernewport.org/blog/post/the-ultimate-guide-to-parking-in-newport-ri/

National wildlife refuge. Entry is free. Great flat nature trails along the ocean. This place is beautiful and one of my favorite places. Lots of wildlife, and pretty flat trails. About 2.5 miles if you do the entire loop.

Best beach in RI! This beach is about 2 miles long and has the softest sand. It gets VERY crowded on the weekends, so plan on getting there by 10am to get in. Parking is $30 on weekends. They have full beach facilities (bathrooms, outdoor showers, snack shack, etc.). If you have the time, this is a must! On weekends, you will need to get there by 9:30, in order to get a spot in the parking lot, or you'll have a long wait until about 2:30pm. The beach/lot is free after 4:00pm.

This place is beautiful. Great nature trails, and some more "difficult" hikes (although probably on a max of 4 on a 1-10 scale). Take the trail out to Hanging Rock. You will not regret it! (it's only about 1 mile to it). There is a small admission fee.

Sightseeing

If you have time, take a ride around Ocean Drive in Newport. You'll see incredible mansions and beautiful scenery along the ocean. There's also Brenton Point, where there are usually many kites flying and families having picnics. They have restroom facilities here too.

This is a great walk along the ocean. Starting at Memorial Boulevard, it is paved for approximately 1.5-2.0 miles. After that, there are some "rougher" sections with dirt paths and some rocky areas. The total rount-trip length is about 7.0 miles, but you don't have to do the whole thing. You'll see beautiful ocean views/surf and many of the famous Newport mansions along the way. This is one of my favorite places!
