Cragside is 15 minutes from the house close to a beautiful village called Rothbury, also worth a visit. The house was built by Victorian Industrialist, Lord Armstrong, and was the first to use electricity. Original William Morris wallpaper and beautiful furniture fill this impressive building. The landscapes grounds are stunning.

Lindisfarne, or Holy Island as it is known locally, is a tidal island cut off from the mainland twice a day. It is a pilgrimage spot for many as it was an important site for early Christianity during the Anglo-Saxon period and many visit the ruins of the Priory each year. The impressive castle was built by Henry VIII, using stone from the priory during the dissolution, ti be used as a garrison for troops due to its location so close to the border with Scotland. The island is a magical place and well worth a visit. Nature lover will appreciate a walk around the island for the bird life and the seal colonies.

There is a fabulous walk from Craster to Dunstanburgh along the headland. The walk to the castle is about 1.5 miles there and back. The Jolly Fisherman pub is a great spot to end up in after for a lunch with a view!

The birthplace of ‘Earl Grey’ tea! A stunning landscaped garden with a famous arboretum. The snowdrop and spring bulbs are spectacular; I particularly love the magnolias in early summer. A beautiful place with stunning walks. The tea room is fabulous, serving excellent food, delicious cakes and Earl Grey tea!
