Sightseeing

Sights to see within short drive (15-30 minutes)
Can be seen from Scott’s Bay. There are two trails that will take you out to the end of the mainland for a closer look at the Split. The hike is approximately 2-hours each way with some steep slopes. If you are up to this type of hike it’s well worth the effort.

Well worth a stop on your way to Scott’s Bay Beach. On a clear day four counties can be seen. Ice cream cones are served at the Lookoff Cafe.

Our family’s summers have been marked for many years with trips to Halls Harbour for ice creams, lobster rolls and watching the changing tides and sunsets.

Grand Pré is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that’s a must-see for anyone visiting Nova Scotia. Our favourite place is the 17-18th century deportation site marked with a remarkably solemn large iron cross. 2022 was the 150th Anniversary of Wordsworth poem Evangeline. Check out the John Robichaud online Studio page for stunning photos of the Evangeline monument and the Deportation Cross

See the quirky beach stone and concrete cottages built by Charles Macdonald (a true local character). We also enjoy visiting the Charles Macdonald Museum in Centreville, open each July and August.

Wineries

Our favourite wineries within 10-30 minutes.
We invite guests to try out each year's Tidal Bay wine. Every winery makes its own unique. This is one of the quieter spots to stop at with beautiful views of the vines from the patio.

This is the winery closest to the apartment and on the road to the closest beach at Kingsport. Worth a quick stop for a bottle of award winning wine. This winery is dedicated to producing 100% Nova Scotian grapes and promoting the estate’s unique seaside terroir. The result has been wines of exceptional taste and quality, not to mention numerous national and international awards. Blomidon's extensive offerings include a range of reds, whites, desserts and rosés

Our family has been visiting the Domaine de Grand Pré since its beginnings in 1979. It is the oldest farm winery in Atlantic Canada. For the most recent decades it has been owned and operated by the Swiss-born Stutz family. The extended family is involved in all operations, included the fabulous restaurant. the surroundings of its summer patio are as fabulous as the food.

The view from Luckett Vineyards should not be missed. The food is excellent. But be aware... This is a busy spot. Often with long wait times to be seated during lunch hours. We like to pack a picnic, pick-up some cans of our favourite wines and head out to Grand Pre Park to relax and eat in the shade of ancient willow trees.

Beaches

Our favourite beaches within a 10-30 minute drive. The tides in the Bay of Fundy and Minas Basin are the highest in the world. Check tide times before heading on to
You can drive to the top parking lot and hike trails from there. For a steep hike park in the lower parking lot and try the Borden Brook trail or the Jodrey trail. These are trails I hike year round, seldom busy, even in July and August. I love the solitude these trails offer.

Local beers from around the province, full bar and spectacular nachos. A patio was added in 2023 as an additional casual dining option. This taproom is a five minute walk from the apartment. Try this award-winning chef's seafood chowder. The smaller serving is ample for most, even without the addition of lobster.

This is a lunch-time restaurant, only steps away from the apartment. It closes mid-afternoon. I love the Buddha Bowls prepared by the owner's daughter. And if the roast beef and horseradish sandwich is on the menu it's a must for beef lovers.
