Neighborhoods
The neighborhood you will be staying in is called Lower Bottoms. Proximity to BART and the San Francisco freeway offramp make this neighborhood a prime site for easy access to all neighboring cities.
It is truly a prime spot to access public transit, like Bart. We also have FlixBus stop 2 blocks away. Amtrak station is a 10-minute drive away in Jack London Square.
I have lived in the neighborhood for over 7 years and absolutely love it due to its proximity to major cities, like San Francisco, Berkeley, and Oakland.
I'm personally comfortable walking around the neighborhood but some precautions should be kept in mind, as any smart person would do in any neighborhood. Be aware and alert of your surroundings. Don't walk with your face glued to your phone and your headphones on.
However, with the good comes the bad. We have a homelessness crisis and crimes happen.

Getting around
Bart is the fastest and cheapest way to get around
You will need to purchase a clipper card, sold at any station's vending machine, and load money to it to be able to enter the bart station.
Alternatively, you could also use a Lyft/Uber.
West Oaklant bart station usually have couple Gig cars (car sharing) available. You will need a valid DL and an Gig Cars app to use it.
