Rated #1 favorite hike by Portlanders, this hike is one of the closest from Portland, about 5 miles in and out, medium difficulty, and a great view from the top. While most people in Portland tend to stick to the trails on the Oregon side of the river, our tie for favorite hike in the Gorge goes to Wind Mountain on the Washington side. This trail is just super atmospheric and beautiful, and it used to be a Native American Spirit Quest trail. Incredibly serene, low traffic, a good leg workout and elevation gain over a short distance, and after the huffing and puffing to the top you're greeted with one of the most spectacular views of any hikes in the Gorge.

Be forewarned: this is not for the casual hiker! It does not require climbing gear, but it does require much scrambling and reaching for bare tree roots as you make your way up slopes of about 70 degrees for most of the hike. It is considered one of the most difficult if not THE most difficult "official" trails in the whole Gorge, and it is a quadricep and calf destroyer! Relentless pretty much the entire time, and not for those uncomfortable with uneven footing or that have balance issues. If you enjoy climbing and a challenge though, there is no trail or hike in the Gorge that has a better payoff than arriving at the top of Munra Point. You'll constantly be asking yourself "Are we almost there?!", and when you ascent the last bit onto the knife edge ridge the view is breathtaking; 30 miles visibility North, East, and West. Tied for our favorite hike with Wind Mountain. Don't say we didn't warn you and/or you're welcome!
