Swimming lake

Our closest lakes are great for swimming and have clean water. Vittjärn or commonly called Trollsjön a k a “Troll lake” justifies its name being surrounded by dense forest and sometimes letting you swim all by yourself from the cliffs. If you go late at night or early in the morning you might find that you have the beutiful lake all to yourself and dare to go skinny dipping. There are some cliffs great to jump from and also a swing that you can swing yourself and jump in the water from (backside of the high cliffs on the left side of the lake. When entering the wood we usually go to the right and set us up by the cliffs that softly goes into the water. That is the easiest place to go in and out of the water.

Sågsjön (“Saw lake”) is also very nice, a bit bigger and has a small beach with jettys to get into the water from. If you have small kids this is an easier place to swim from than Vittjärn. You access the beach if you take the small path leading from the middle of Solviksvägen. Where Solviksvägen takes a turn there is a small parkinglot and the walkingpath to the beach (100 m) starts.

Sightseeing

Take the boat into town. This is a great way to see Stockholm. We often take boat into town as it’s quite efficient (35-45 minutes) and let’s you leave the car at home. You’ll find times on www.Waxholmsbolaget.se or even better using their app ”Waxholmsbolaget”. They have a café on the boat and you can buy wine, snacks and sit on the upper deck and enjoy it and do some house spotting. Closest jetty is ”Hasseludden”. It takes 10 minutes to walk there, but it’s a great walk next to sea. You can also usually find parking along the street Hasseluddsvägen if you prefer to take the car. The jetty in town is called “Strömkajen”, next to Grand Hotel and close to the castle. “ The trip costs 60 kr per adult and you pay on the ferry. You are asked to show the ticket when leaving the ferry. Most boats are modern but if you look for Norrskär or Storskär in the timetable you are up for a real time travel. Another nice boattrip is Nacka Strand - half way to city. Where the boat Docks there is a restaurant right on the water ”Restaurang J Nacka strand” this is quite busy and fun summer nights. 3. Take the boat to the archipelago. Take the boat from Hasseludden to for example Sandhamn, where a lot of sailing activities take place in the summer. Also Vaxholm is a nice closer trip, being a larger seaside community with a lot of connecting boats going to different areas in the archipelago. Waxholm also has some nice restaurants and shops, for example Magasinet that except for haveing a café also sell nice interior design.

Walk around in Stockholm City. Don’t miss Gamla Stan (Old town) and Stortorget. We also like Södermalm which is easy-going with nice streets such as Götgatan (norht part is nicest and pedestrian street), Skånegatan, Nytorget, Mariatorget and Sankt Paulsgatan and Swedenborgsgatan (pedestraian street). In the city the up-market streets are Strandvägen, Nybrogatan, Biblioteksgatan and Birger Jarlsgatan with nice restaurant and expensive shopping. Also Mood gallerian, Sture gallerian, and NK are nice places to have a look. More and less expensive shopping is found in Gallerian, around Drottninggatan, Hötorget and Kungsgatan. Let us know if you look for anything particular and we will guide you!

Museum

http://www.artipelag.se/ An art museum with a superb location towards Gustavberg (Take 222 but away from the city). The really cool architecture is worth a visit even if you don’t visit the actual exhibition wich this summer will be Rolf Hanson - Retroactive. You can still walk around in the area on the boardwalk (take right from the first big parking (sign Boardwalk) leading up to the museum. There’s a free roof top terrace, a formal restaurant and a café that serves food as well. Don’t miss the cool bathrooms in the base floor. Afterwards we recommend you visit the harbor in Gustavsberg, which has several good cafés (Tornvillan is one), and factory outlets for porcelain and glass; Iittala and Kosta Boda.

Nature

Visit Björnö Nature Reserve When longing for a full day in nature this is where we go. It is a bit of a car rade (appr 30 mins) but so worth it. Park in the big parking space and take the 10 Km walk, well signed, and in very various nature. Bring some food and swimming gear as it passes beautiful picnic and swimming spot. Do not miss the look-out -tower; the view is to die for. The second part (walking against the clock which we recommend) has some trolls etc hided in the woods = fun for kids. On your way back home we recommend a stop at Strömma Kanalbar. This place is so vibrant and fun in the summer afternoons/nights. Again, it is a small sound/canal where many boats passes. When you sit in the deckchairs they come so close that you can almost touch them. Some of the boatowners put on a bit of a show going through the canal with a crowd whatching. There is both bar, restaurant and an ice cream kiosk.

Another great restaurant by the sea - not far from us; this time by Lännerstasundet. A sound with lively boattraffic. This bbq-restaurant is a bit more upmarket and is great for people and boat spotting. They also have a more budgetfriendly food truck on their lower deck.

http://www.langaraden.se/ Around 10 minutes by car or around 1 hour to walk (see Nackakartan in the house). Nice restaurant with good prices where you sit by the water and the boats. Live music every Friday evening at 8pm. Our neighboors in the green house second on our street runs the kiosk with home made ice cream ”Nonnas Gelato” on the lakeside. Velamsund where Långa Raden is located is a big nature area with a farm, horses and pigs and lots of trails to trek on. You can also swim here on a small beach on the lakeside.
