Prineville is a small town about 30 miles east of Bend. At one time, up until the early 1900's, Prineville was the county seat, and the biggest town in Central Oregon. At that time, Crook, Deschutes, and Jefferson County were all one county--called Crook county. Unfortunately for Prineville, the railroad bypassed them and went to Bend. The town has changed very little over the years, and is the gateway to miles of beautiful desert.
