Thessaloniki's main tourist attractions
White Tower is the main attraction of Thessaloniki. It is a fortification work of the 15th century Ottoman (probably built between 1450-70). It is now considered a characteristic monument of Thessaloniki and is what has been saved by the demolished Ottoman fortification of the city. The present form of the tower replaced a Byzantine fortification of the 12th century, to be used as a garrison of the Yanitsaron and as a prison of death. Today it operates as a museum and is one of the most famous building-symbols of cities in Greece. It has 6 floors, 34 meters high and 70 meters perimeter. The museum of White tower provides many historical facts about Thessaloniki and its ticket costs 4 euro. Maps: goo.gl/maps/dYX1viw7XLF2 Street: Leoforos Nikis

The Castles of Thessaloniki are a complex of walls, towers and fortifications with unique archaeological, architectural and historical significance. What we call today "Castles of Thessaloniki" is only part of the old fortification. In their original form, the walls and castles of Thessaloniki surrounded the entire city, including the riverside side. The design and the technology of the walls make them very similar to the Byzantine walls of Constantinople, although of course the size varies. The first fortifications were created with the foundation of the city in Hellenistic spaces, but the present form of castles is for the most part construction of the 4th century AD. century. The White Tower, Eptapyrgio and Vardaris Fortress, some of which are part of Thessaloniki's Castles, are presented separately at the site as a separate cast. From there you can see an astonishing view of the whole town. If you go there don’t forget to visit Yedi Kule. Maps: goo.gl/maps/zaZ8f2RDDjT2 Street: Eptapyrgiou 130
