My favourite. Local food. Making a decision whether to get a menu item or the special is a challenge every time. Doesn’t take reservations. Good for brunch and dinner. $$$

A quick scoot across the harbour – take the ferry! They have these delicious, amazing, billion calorie croissants (so worth it) and cookies the size of your face. And coffee. $

Sightseeing

fully admit, it has been many years since I have explored inside the fort, but it’s neat if you’re interested in history and forts. Regardless, it’s worth a stroll up the hill for the view – stick to visiting during the day. Many people fight the development of new buildings that would block the view. We’ll leave that debate for another time.

Lots of restaurants, shops and people - you'll find locals and tourists here. A popular place to run when it isn’t swarming with people. You can also rent bikes and segways or sign up for a tour. Also the option to just walk the length of the boardwalk. In the summer there are often buskers found here.

Opens in spring weather depending, but houses beautiful flowers and ducks in the summer. Nice to stroll through.

Great scenic trails for a run or a walk at the southern tip of the peninsula. Lots of people and a nice view of the arm and opening of the harbour. You forget you’re in a city. About 1km from the condo.

I love this hike. There are two old crumbling WW2 era lookout stations along the way, and 2 light houses visible during the hike. Total hiking time is about 3 hours or 8km (to the end and back) and it is not a loop. | 30 minutes from the condo.

A favourite beach in the winter or the summer. Tends to only be locals and less crowded than the other beaches. You’ll drive through Cole Harbour (home of NHLers Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon) and Lawrence Town (popular surf locations) | 40 minutes outside the city.

Iconic Nova Scotia landmark. And the drive there is nice – I suggest the lighthouse route vs. the highway (you’ll pass the Duncan’s Cove hike site). Take photos. Walk around the rocks. But be careful! Sadly, people are swept off the rocks by waves when they get too close. | 45 minutes from the condo.

Shopping

Just like any other shopping mall, has your expected available in Canada clothing chains. Minus a few that haven't made it this far east yet.

Entertainment & Activities

In the winter you ice skate and in the summer you roller skate. Located on the Halifax Common (where farmers took their cattle to feed back in the day), it is a popular spot. I spend many evenings there. You can rent skates for free, just bring your ID.

Sometimes, Netflix just doesn't cut it. Fortunately, the theatre is close and normally has good options playing.
