My fave cafés and restuarants

I honestly think this is one of the best locations in town for its access to sweet cafés and restaurants! I've made a list here that starts with what's closest, and then moves farther afield (North Park, Fernwood, Cook St Village, Downtown).
One of the best coffee shops in town and it's just up the street! Indoor/outdoor seating, cozy, and GREAT breakfast sandwiches!

Delicious delicious delicious! Locally made ice cream (sandwiches, tubs, cups) for everyone - organic dairy, vegan, gluten-free, sugar-free options. I forgot my credit card on the bench outside and I found out the next day that a kind soul ha turned it in for me :) Everyone's nicer with ice cream.

So good! I always get the brisket-salad combo. It's a huge salad with a hardboiled egg and feta, and the brisket is so tender it just pulls apart with a fork. Mm Mm Mmm.

Arguably the best pizza joint in town. Others will say, no, Prima Strada is better - you can decide. The nice thing about Standard Pizza is that it's right around the corner - literally - 3 min walk if you're a slow walker. Wood-fired pizza, nice people who run the shop. It's not the coziest atmosphere and is meant more for the takeout scene. I'd take it to eat in the park :)

The competition. Wayyyy better atmosphere for dining in; they serve wine and the walls are painted burgundy - 'nuf said. My fave is the polenta, but most people get the pizza.

Oh my goodness, this tapas bar is fantastic! Great cocktails, mouth watering dishes, good music, nice ambiance. The brussels sprouts are my fave, but all of the food is excellent.

Owned by the same people who run the Parsonage Café, so the coffee is tops. This has more of a casual, family vibe. People read, meet with friends, work on their laptops at the tables against the windows. There's a good breakfast/lunch menu.

This is my favourite pub in town, probably because it's so close, but it's also full of nice people, has good food, and has a nice little patio.

Fresh fresh fresh! Very tasty salads, sandwiches, and soups. It's in the heart of Cook St Village. If you want to feel like your best, healthy self, I highly recommend coming here for lunch or dinner.

This is a small restaurant with a cozy, bustling atmosphere, and fresh, authentic Japanese food. I have a friend whose opinion on Japanese food I trust implicitly - Uchida is her go to.

This is the most popular sushi place in town and is closer than Uchida. I haven't eaten at Sen Zushi, but hear good things.

Both this one and the Discovery Coffee on Discovery St (the original) are both bright, boppin, spacious cafés with excellent coffee and treats (my fave is the fruit chew - I don't go in for the super sugary sweets. The fruit chew is sweet by its own dried fruit merits and it has stolen my heart).

Sooooo many beers on tap! Their food is pretty good. Hipster vibe. Really nice people. No wine or hard alcohol. If you're gluten free, they've got a Malahop cider for you.
