The water is warm, clear and calm. The sand is very flat along the shore, making it easy to take a long stroll down the beach. A wonderful beach to take a long walk and find a quiet heavenly spot. Most beachgoers tend to stay near Annie’s Place Restaurant for convenience.

In Punta Guaniquilla can find one of the most extraordinary places in Puerto Rico: a landscape of boulders in the middle of a lagoon, which could very well be taken as out-of-this-worldly. Laguna Guaniquilla, a lagoon that serves as an important refuge for migratory birds protected at both local and federal agencies, and which visit the area every winter from such distant places. Punta Guaniquilla has also been designated as an Important Bird Area (IBA), a classification given by BirdLife International to those areas that are crucial to the survival of endemic, native and visiting species. The wildlife refuge has many ecosystems in it — from dry forests, lagoons ranging from hyper-saline to regular marine, mangrove forests, sea grass and coral reefs. So there is a large variety of different areas, to see different animals and plants that call these areas home. One of the trails is a butterfly trail where you can see among other things … butterflies! There are also bike trails.

Punta Pitahaya is a nature area, the waters are shallow surrounded by mangrove trees. This beach is not the best for swimming but a nice area for kayaking and we often spot a few families fishing at the shore late afternoon. This is a nice area for enjoying nature and taking a walk on the shore. Just about every time we visit, we see a police patrol coming around to check the area, it is a desolate area, so we recommend you don’t come alone.
