Food Scene

The Power House is run by my neighbor Billy who is a bike (as in bicycle) aficionado. The place has a ton of craft beers on tap, bikes decorating the walls, usually bike racing on the tv screens and fabulous local fresh food. It's my go-to.

Great mediterranean menu with an array of appetizers and shared plates. Pretty affordable for Ketchum. Recommend the Tunis Chicken. The owners have three restaurants in town and do a wonderful job.

Cristina is Italian. Her tiny restaurant serves breakfast and lunch, has an amazing array of pastries, cheeses and a pate that should win awards - in the counter. Her food is over-the-top good, and you just might have a celebrity sighting here. She has a rabid fan base and has published a few cookbooks. The prices are more like dinner prices for breakfast or lunch, but it is really worth it!

Truly a great restaurant. Expensive, but locally sourced, unpretentious, fantastic food. Craft cocktails, too.

Great sushi - don't be put off by the fact you're in Idaho. It's flown in fresh. Nice cocktail scene, too. Green bean appetizer is a delight.

Dang is a wonderful host. This place has both Thai food AND sushi ... not the norm. Both are really well done, not the best ... but can please a crowd since you can get curry OR sushi in the same seating.

Order takeout! Not a lot of atmosphere (none) going on here, but the food is the best Thai you'll get in the valley.

Entertainment & Activities

Galena is: a historic rustic cabin; an amazing jumping off spot to mountain biking in summer or snowshoeing and nordic skiing in winter; one of the few places in the world where you can ask for a 'loaner dog'; the coziest place for delicious food and a beer or glass of wine ... or the finest egg nog in the world around the holidays. I love this place. Don and Erin, the owners, make everyone feel welcome ... it's generally open summer and winter ... for breakfast and lunch. They do some full-moon and special event dinners too.

Skiing or hiking or mountain biking. For all of these, the trails are not for the faint of heart. The mountain does not have any "easy ways down" that other ski mountains do. If you take your mountain bike up to the top, be ready for flow trails and expert terrain.

They play great films and you can get a beer or wine to go with your movie. Which doesn't happen most places!

Sightseeing

The historic lodge is simply a classic. Walk the hallways to see the photos of all the stars who have been coming to Sun Valley since the 1930s. Stop into the Duchin Room for a drink and maybe some piano music ... and note the outside of the lodge is NOT made of logs. It's pressed cement. It really is.
