Food Scene

That have great gluten free and vegan options. Alaskans love their pizza and this place does it well! Its definitely more local and less touristy.

Best margaritas in my opinion. Excellent service. Excellent food. This is the great local hangout of Spenard. Its where most of my "going out" budget goes and I am proud of it.

You think this is a mirage, but it's not! It's a great spot to stop in on your way down to Girdwood or Seward.

Parks & Nature

Stunning views of Turnagain - beautiful drive out. Make sure you have some cash to pay for parking and don't forget the bear spray (which we can provide some for you).

Great quick day hike (it will be a bun burner though). Plenty of stopping points to take in views of Anchorage! Bring a rain jacket - it gets breezy up top!

The Coastal Trail starts downtown and can take you down to Kincaid Park. The trail is great for runners, walkers, and its very fun to rent a bike (downtown) and spend half a day doing the trail. Its fun - the last stretch up to Kincaid Park it all uphill so no shame walking the bike up it if need be. Its a blast and you get great views of nature.

We are walking distance from this trail system. It's a half mile walk to Taku Lake where you can picnic or fish.

One of the neatest tourist places ever. I love taking friends here. They rescue local wildlife and rehabilitate them to be advocates for the cause or release them back out into the wild. Get up close to moose, BEARS, bison, porcupines, etc. Great fun day. Generally you park your car and walk the mile loop to pack for the weather. Afterwards go have a meal in Girdwood!

Great easy nature walk of a hike. You are surrounded by rainforest - minimal wild animal interaction from my experience. Only occassional black bear.

Entertainment & Activities

We just got one this spring 2018 - and it's kind of a big deal. If you are sick of nature and want to hang out for a night of fun. This is right up the street from us.

Sightseeing

Start downtown at the sun and walk down towards the bike rental shop. Riding a bike down the coastal trail will take you past all the planets - and PLUTO is still standing last time I checked!

Drinks & Nightlife

This is also a great place to eat food but go hang out and look at the views. Ask about other local hikes, maybe take the tram to the top of the mountain.

Everything Else

I love this place. Great day trip. Go do a hike (Byron's Glacier, Winner Creek, Crow's Pass) - then go have a brew down at the local brewery, or stand in line for a great fancy cajun meal at the Double Musky. You can't go wrong with Girdwood.
