(They don’t like every brand so it’s better I show you which to buy). Then, we’ll explore Moda’s vibrant streets in search of our furry-friends. You’ll learn their stories, routines, and meet their buddies and alliances. Who knows? Maybe you will be rewarded with a tiny nose kiss! You will also get to know how they have become such an important part of our community. Moda is a lively, artsy, and close-knit community that has taken an entirely new approach to the care of its street cats and dogs. Our focus has been to ‘adopt’ stray animals as a community- not as individuals- to tag and feed our four-legged friends, to provide medical help when needed, and of course to shower them with love and affection. The first hour we will go upstream Ponta do Sol river, that will take us to a "levada" walk, where we will find a hidden waterfall. We will introduce you to the vendors of our favorite local shops, share traditional breakfast delicacies, smell and learn about herbs and spices, visit a deli shop to taste the original honey glazed yoghurt and take you to the magical word of olives. Also, one of the best Greek traditional restaurants (mageirio) will be accommodating you for a seated lunch, cheese tasting and of course, you'll try a dessert. During the walk, you'll meet our old friends in the oldest vegetable, fish and meat market of Athens and you'll also try our best wines and distillates of the region. Get the chance to know how to cook all the dishes you will try, and get local insight into recipes, tips for Athens, the islands and the culinary traditions. Join us in a “Mediterranean Diet” food tour and discover the secrets of our culinary tradition. Join us for an authentically unique experience, touring Agua De Alto via a 1.5 mile hike, side by side our happy, rescued donkeys. At Donkeys and Friends, we believe, and have seen firsthand how responsible tourism helps visitors engage more deeply with the Azores, and we strive to share our community through the eyes of locals, in the most traditional of fashions. Our mission is to help and protect donkeys in need of rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming. Donkeys walk at the same speed as humans, about four miles per hour. Moving is vital to their ongoing health. In the wild, these animals can be found traveling 10 to 20 kilometers a day as they wander around grazing. And that’s where we need your help! These daily hiking adventures keep our big-eared friends healthy, while unleashing their natural curiosity and wonder. On this excursion, you will have the opportunity to stroll alongside Gabriela, Joaquin de Horta, Esperanca, Edward, and the always-entertaining Shetland pony, Kiwi! We will explore Agua de Alto, where they say it’s always sunny, at a donkey’s pace, reviling in the laid back pace that marks these relaxed islands. We’ll let you in on the secret paths to the best beaches on the south side of the island, make a pit stop for coffee and a chance to brush up on your Portuguese.
