Places to stay in South Harbour
The Sawmill Cabin is very rustic, wrapped in spruce and pine boards giving the area a sweet smell of fresh sawed lumber. If your looking for luxury this is not the cabin for you, with an outdoor toilet and no running water. Offering a quiet and unique comfort in the Canadian forest.
This space is built around a sawmill supply of lumber, giving it that real off grid feeling. Offering wood heat and gas powered electricity, surrounded by trees you can relax in the peace of the Canadian Wilderness!
We have a family owned fully licenced restaurant for the past 50 years specializing in fresh food and Scottish baked goods, as well as zip lining/kayak-paddle boarding/hiking trails/waterfalls/gift craft store all within walking distance.
  • We had a wonderful stay at Terrence's place. The cabin is so quaint and peaceful. We stayed for 2 nights and wish we could have stayed longer!

    Jenna2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • If you want a cosy, rustic escape, this is the place for you! Terrence’s cabin is set back in the woods about 50 from the Cabot Trail with a picturesque river behind it. He met us upon arrival, brought wood for the fire, turned on the generator and gave us a few other supplies we needed. He also gave us a list of some beautiful places to check out near by! This is a pretty minimalist cabin with no running water, so come prepared.

  • Terrence has been a super host. Super friendly and informative, he catered to all our needs. Very private. Classic east coast hospitality. We dont want to leave 😊

    Mark2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay at Terrence’s Tiny House!!! Private, secluded, and so cozy! What a fantastic stay we had. Terrence was great and couldn’t have asked for a better night!

  • Small, cozy and exactly what we were looking for.

    Annette2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Staying in Terrence's little cabin in the woods was amazing last weekend in Dingwall. Everything in the description of this listing was accurate and the host was very accommodating. This cabin is a great escape and a great opportunity to rest and unplug. There were lovely touches inside the cabin and the host was very accommodating coming over to aid in starting a fire and helping out with the electric generator. Definitely will be staying here again!

    Teri2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great lil cabin! We were looking for a place to get away and unplug for a night and this is exactly what we found. Remote enough to feel like you’re getting away but close enough to the general store to pick up anything you might have forgotten. Great location if you’re looking to explore the area. It was nice to have the generator for lights and to run the heater until the wood stove got going. Very cozy and rustic, would come back again! (Don’t forget to bring your own cooking pans/utensils to use on the hot plate provided).

    Erin2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks for opening up your place to us! Everything was as expected - it was cosy and warm in November. Generator worked great. Quite rustic, everything as expected for a good off-grid time. Location was very private, which I appreciated. Well stocked with firewood, etc. There's a little corner store about a 1 min drive away, which was very handy. Thanks!

  • It was our first RV/Trailer experience. The trailer was the perfect location for our one night stay! Wish we could have spent more time!

    Carla2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • Our 3 night stay at Stacy and Lowell's place was definitely the highlight of our east coast road trip! The place was sparkling clean, the beds were sooo comfortable - it was so cozy! Its location is perfect for anyone travelling along the Cabot Trail. Lowell was kind enough to take us out to try and track a Moose for us to see...no luck though. But, it was a great experience, and lots of laughs were had. We hope to come back some day, and I would recommend this place to anyone who is hesitant to stay in a "trailer" ...because it's more like a cottage.

    Julianna2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • I was very comfortable in this beautiful trailer. Stacey was helpful and considerate. It had everything I needed and was in a quiet location.

Our cozy wilderness cabin offers total privacy on 50 acres of old growth forest. It offers a stunning view of the North Mountain/Aspy valley out to the distant ocean. Close to Cape Breton Highlands National Park, trails, kayaking/biking, beaches & whale watching. Private trail down to the pristine North Aspy river. Simple and rustic with deck, kitchenette, bed, BBQ. For weekly rentals-free kayak rental included. Not for the faint of heart with rugged driveway, steep land and wild creatures.
Our space is unique as it offers a rustic and wild bit of paradise just off the Cabot Trail. If you like, you will see no one at all. The cabin is a simple one room building, well the bathroom is closed off from the rest :). Newly renovated it offers a deck, kitchenette (mini fridge, microwave, hotplate, toaster oven, sink) with a small woodstove and BBQ outside. One of the next best features is its location here in Northern Cape Breton, just off the Cabot Trail, with access to both the eastern and western sides of the National Park. It is a short drive to stunning barrier beaches, like John Cabot's Landing Provincial Park. There are several local shops and restaurants only a short drive away. It is a WILD place though. The driveway is rough. The land is steep. The creatures are wild. This is no 5 star resort :) This is a wilderness cabin. With a flush toilet and running water. No wifi. No TV. And the radio either brings in a newfoundland station or CBC radio, depending on the weather. Good cell service for bell/aliant/telus customers. Rogers customers are out of luck.
The area is very unique, with small communities dotting a rugged coastline. The National Park lies to the east and west of you, while the Aspy Wilderness Area stretches out in front. It is the perfect place for all your outdoor adventures.
  • We had an amazing few days at the Sunrise Wilderness Cabin. The view is just spectacular, the pictures don't do it justice. The cabin is private and secluded, and we felt like there was no one else for miles. The cabin is clean and comfy, and has everything you need - we loved staying in on a rainy day with the wood stove going. The local tips that Jennifer offers are very helpful - we took her advice for various hikes and outings and weren't disappointed! If you're looking for a quiet, peaceful, relaxing getaway, look no further! Thanks Jennifer - we'll be back! :)

  • Beautiful little cabin, off the Cabot Trail enough so as to hear only nature. Loved the wood stove. Got chilly at night so was great to stoke a fire before bed and get toasty. Bed was comfortable. Nice touch having a water cooler and a barbecue. Both were put to good use. The deck overlooking the mountains is the clincher - I could sit and stare for days. I missed the hiking path to the large maples, too much to do. It’ll have to wait until next time.

    George2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderfully simple yet everything necessary for a comfortable stay. Seemingly isolated but convenient to everything this part of the world has to offer, mostly spectacular scenery and a close association with Mother Nature. Who could ask for more.

    Wesley2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Million dollar view and everything you need to enjoy. Rustic for sure, but not rough. Peaceful and cozy. Would go back in a heartbeat.

    Angela2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • The view. The view. The view! We fell in-love with the cabin - an awesome place to relax and make a meal after hiking and exploring. The perfect spot to be cozy on a rainy fall day. Jennifer went above and beyond to be sure that we had a fantastic Cape North experience. I would go back again tomorrow if I could.

  • We loved spending time at Jessica’s cottage. Great and private location with a superb view!

    Melissa2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • We truly appreciated the privacy, beautiful scenery, quietness, the coziness and location of the cabin. Would love to experience this place in the winter months.

  • This was our first time staying in a dome. Washroom and shower are in the dome!! Each dome has their own picnic table, fire pit and charcoal grill. Shanshan and her family live on site and they are a really nice and very cool family. Don't forget bug spray. For dinner we got take out and ate during sunset at our picnic table. This was a cool experience. If you want to spend the night in nature but aren't a camper, this could be for you.

  • Our family of four (including two toddlers) + my sister-in-law had a comfortable and pleasant night. It is a great mid-point if you are doing Cape Breton over two or more days, in either direction. We will definitely seek out this place again if we return to the area.

  • Amazing location! Excellent little getaway! Thanks for having us! Will stay again if back in the area!

    Jeffrey2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • This was a nice cabin in the mountains - well located near sunset viewing at Meat Cove and Cabot’s Landing beach, and nicely decorated. Due to its remote location it is a bit rustic (with bottled water instead of tap water to drink), but this was really not an issue for our stay. Really good option if you are looking for somewhere to stay off the north end of the Cabot Trail.

    Scott2019-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Nice comfortable house.

    Capt2019-07-26T00:00:00Z

This amazing, private property is nestled snuggly on the most Northern tip of Cape Breton Island. Relax on the deck with a book from the private library as you listen to the whales playing in the Atlantic or travel the short distance to the wharf for fresh seafood and take in some of the local entertainment: you, too, will want to dance a jig to the fiddler's tune. Roast marshmallows in the fire pit after a fantastic hike or share a glass of wine on the balcony off the master bedroom.
Owned by a local, fifth generation fisherman with his wife and daughters who want to share the joy (and maybe a moose or two) with you and your loved ones. Enjoy an authentic Cape Breton retreat now: the friendliest people, the most splendid panoramic view, and the harmony of nature are waiting for you.
Access to many private hiking trails directly from the property, whale watching, hiking tours, berry picking, bird watching.
  • This is a great place to make a home base if you're going to travel around the Cabot Trail. The views from the house are spectacular and the grounds are beautifully kept. make sure you carve out time to spend a few hours gazing up at the night sky! I'd definitely recommend it to everyone hanging out in Cape Breton! :D

  • In the middle of our Celtic Colours bonanza, I wanted a place to take a break from the hustle and bustle, unwind in peace and enjoy the beauty that is Cape Breton. I am so happy I found Darryll and Jocelyn’s place. Such an awe inspiring view from the deck, listening to the ocean and the marker buoy (and I only know the second one because Sonny told me!) was the perfect medicine. This is a lovely place; comfortable and homey. There are basics available in the kitchen; which was really appreciated since I don’t travel with garlic powder, salt and pepper in my carry on. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. If you’re heading up the Cabot trail and plan to spend some time in the north highlands, stay here. You won’t regret it.

    Kimberley2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • What a magnificient view that i saw from the master bedroom! The location was close to the mid point of cabot trail, which is awesome. I will definitely choose to stay here again on my next visit to CB.

On top of this, the room was clean, comfortable and included a five-star breakfast cooked by John, owner and red seal chef. Hospitable and friendly, this place is a must stay if you’re travelling through Ingonish.

  • Beautiful spot! Outstanding view. Very clean, cozy, charming and comfortable. Perfect breakfast. Would definitely stay there again. Bonus: Delicious restaurant on main level for dinner!

  • The setting is beautiful. Hearing the waves and watching the sunrise were incredible perks. Breakfast in the morning was wonderful as well. Be mindful that there is a working restaurant downstairs during the tourist season so you may hear some noise but the food is absolutely amazing. John was very kind and generous. We would certainly stay at Kristin and John’s home again if the opportunity presented itself.

    Johanna2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful sunrise one could from the balcony. We loved staying there. Would book again.

    Judith2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great family owned place with great hosts. The rooms are very clean and comes with one of the best views facing the sea. I recommend booking a table at their family owned restaurant that serves one of the best Italian and seafood I have ever had. John William, the head chef and the host is a very humble and nice person. It was very nice to have a long chat with him and his knowledge about food is truly amazing. I highly recommend this place if you want a perfect vacation.

  • Well, the domes are very special. Firm and very comfy beds, that extraordinary dome feeling, you can see the sky, feel like camping while having perfect beds, a shower and toilet included. It‘s that special combination which makes those domes so unique.

  • Keith and his family are great hosts. They are quick to answer questions and assist. Their love of the area is obvious. If you are looking to relax or explore the trail this is a great spot.

    Tammy2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • We recommend this cottage for its great amenities, peace and quiet, cleanliness, and location for great hikes. Our hosts thought of everything with me might need or wanted to know about the area. They were always there for us, yet invisible. Everything was there to cook our meals and enjoy our local finds. We got to experience everything Cape Breton, from food and drinks, the locals and their Markets, to hikes, nature, and every weather possible. Perfect for 2 or 4 people into adventure or relax-in when Mother Nature says so.

    Terrence2019-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • My husband a I spent 3 nights at the cottage. The weather was rainy but the cottage was so comfortable that we actually enjoyed being indoors. The view is so spectacular that I got up early just to watch the sunrise over the water. This is absolutely the most outstanding Airbnb we’ve visited. The hosts have thought of everything.

  • This is a true gem. A beautifully designed and built cabin on an inlet, well equipped kitchen, quiet, and near hiking, cycling, and other outdoor activities.

  • We felt warmly welcomed, and were amazed at the thoughtful touches everywhere- from cooking utensils to bathroom supplies. The decks and porch made for perfect sitting and soaking in the view of South Harbour. We drove the Cabot Trail and hiked in the surrounding National Park. Southrock cottage provided the perfect “home away from home” to enjoy the beauty of Cape Breton.

  • Terrence was great! He upgraded us from the campground we had booked to his cabin free of charge. It suited our needs perfectly as it was close to hiking trails and was nice and clean. It had basic cooking appliances, but we had brought our own anyways so did most of our own cooking outside. Was small, but totally functional as you will want to spend most of your time outdoors anyways! Thank you for hosting we had a great stay!

    Paige2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Terrence's place is wonderful if you are looking for a quiet camp site that is more personal than a provincial park. The platforms were great for sleeping and helped to keep us dry in the rain.

    Alison2019-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed camping here.

    William2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great, quiet place on the Cabot Trail. We had the area to ourselves so it was much better than the park camps loaded with people. We stayed behind the bistro which worked out great for having some dinner. Would recommend over the large campsites in the park

    Michael2019-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • Terrence was very helpful. He provided a lot of local tips and brought us firewood to use for a fire. Coffee and fruit were also provided in the morning at a near by restaurant.

    Jarod2019-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • The campsite is absolutely gorgeous, and the surrounding area on Cabot trial is ever more beautiful! Terrence was a great host at showing us where our site was and where everything we need was. Especially since we got in so late. Was an amazing experience.

    Meghan2019-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • I would definitely recommend this place! Terrence was great and super helpful with everything. It’s in an ideal location, paddle boarding and zip lining we’re awesome, and the restaurant was great!

    Justin2019-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Terrence was very helpful and has a cool camping set up. You can hear the river from the site and it is fairly close to a beautiful sandbar beach. Would recommend!

Alone on a forested cliff above a pristine barrier beach and a stunning ocean view, this cozy two bedroom cottage is just off the Cabot Trail in Northern Cape Breton. The cottage offers stunning ocean and beach views; while tucked into the woods, hidden from view itself. Clean fresh wood interior, new appliances and gorgeous art complete it. A private retreat close to Park hiking trails. Free kayak rentals for week long rentals. Enjoy privacy and solitude where the mountains meet the sea.
This is the perfect little getaway for two, it's a small 600 sq ft cottage, with lovely wood paneling and big windows. It has a great little kitchen, and a fantastic deck to sit out and take in the view. The Cottage is located close to a provincial park, a barrier beach, Sugarloaf Mountain hiking trail, and the fishing village of Bay St Lawrence. The cottage is clean and cozy, and simple. The real perks are the privacy, the view and location; it sits on 10 acres of birch and spruce, with a small brook on one side. The ocean views looks down the cliffs of Cape North to one side and out across all of Aspy Bay to White Point and the South Mountain range of the National Park. The sea rolls, fishing boats pass by, gannets soar and dive. Seals pop up. The cottage over looks a cliff edge though, with a 20 metre drop onto said barrier beach and some rocks, so it is not suited for children or pets (or overly wine soaked artists); the location requires sensible behaviour. New this year; wifi!!
Behind you to the north rises Sugarloaf Mountain, while north east the road continues to Bay St Lawrence and Meat Cove. The Hut Takeout and Oshan Whale Tours are worth the visit. As you turn east and then south the panorama lifts you along the north mountain range to Money Point and Cape North, where the North Atlantic Sea takes over, a blip of St Paul Island and an endless stretch of water across Aspy Bay to the village of White Point at the base of the South Mountain. Heading west now your view skims the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, and the start of the Barrier Beach begins at South Harbour. The beach stretches towards you, 3 miles long, passing the towns of Cape North and Dingwall where you will find several restaurants, our kayak shop, 2 museums and some shops. Check out (URL HIDDEN) for a full listing on the area.
  • Beautiful, quiet relaxed atmosphere! View of the ocean is the best!

    Lisa2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • The view is priceless. If quiet and solitude is what you need, this place is super. We stayed for four nights and were sad to leave. One of the hosts is an artist and her work adorns the walls and keeps it homey. One small thing that was appreciated was a long low table in the bedroom for suitcases.

    Theresa2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • This was an excellent rental for location, value and cleanliness. We hiked and this cottage on the cliff was everything we hoped. We enjoyed the sound of waves, saw some seals in the water below, relaxed on the patio after a long day of hiking. Buy your gas and groceries before you get up to the cottage, but if you haven't there's a decent, well stocked market nearby. Wish the weather was a little better for water sports, but we did travel later in September, so we didn't expect to do too much on the water. All in all, a great cottage and I would like to spend another trip here and hopefully stay longer. The host supplied drinking water. We didn't drink the tap water as recommended, but it was fine for washing. No complaints.

    Steve2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to enjoy exploring the area as well as for just plain relaxing and soaking in the beautiful view. It is also a very quiet and secluded spot.

    David2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived a day late after Hurricane Dorian hit Nova Scotia. Jennifer was very understanding and accommodating. She communicated with me quickly and kept me apprised of the conditions. Many people were without power, including this cottage, when we arrived. Jennifer went out of her way to clear trees from the driveway before our arrival. Even without power, which was restored the next day, we loved the cottage. The views are just as beautiful as in the photos. The cottage is cozy and has everything needed for a comfortable stay. It is very private and yet close to a grocery store and hiking. Jennifer's kindness and efforts helped us be able to enjoy our trip. I highly recommend a stay at her cottage.

Cliff Waters Cottage is the perfect retreat for a couple or small family, sleeping up to four people. The oceanfront cottage sits exclusively on a pristine 89 acre property, and offers panoramic views of the surrounding ocean, mountains, sunsets and sky. The lofted open concept cottage is exceptionally clean and bright and stocked with everything you need to enjoy your stay, making a perfect seaside cottage get away.
Large picture windows and an expansive deck offer panoramic views of the ocean, mountains, sunsets and stars in this oceanfront cottage. This is a one of a kind vacation experience not to be missed! The cottage comes with a fully equipped kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, blender, dishes, pots, pans etc.) ocean view cooking island, wood stove, BBQ, dining and living quarters, 4-piece bathroom, queen bed downstairs, 2 double beds in loft, linens, washer, dryer, phone, wireless internet., no pets.
Cliff Waters Cottage in Pleasant Bay is very secluded, yet central to the best of Cape Breton - the Cabot Trail, Cape Breton Highlands National Park, the Gulf of St. Lawrence, whale watching, hiking trails, Pollett's Cove, and Gampo Abbey Buddhist Monastery. Just off the beaten track this secluded oceanfront retreat sits on 89 acres of private land. There is a sandy beach at the bottom of the hill with both river and ocean swimming. Hiking, sightseeing, whale watching, restaurants, shops, and local craftspeople are all within minutes of Cliff Waters. The cottage is fully equipped, very clean, comfortable and relaxed with a large deck and large windows overlooking the ocean and sunsets. The cottage has an open concept and is best suited to a couple, but is also great for a small family. Pleasant Bay is a sleepy little fishing village nestled in the foothills of the Highlands National Park. Through winter there is a one-store-town of about 120 people. In summer, fishermen head out to sea and a handful of accommodation, shop, whale tour and restaurant owners open their doors for tourists travelling along the Cabot Trail. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and the locals are easy to talk to. We rely on communities outside of the park - mainly Cheticamp - for services such as groceries, gas, alcohol and banking. About Us We are a small homesteading family, who has moved from the city onto land that has been in our family for five generations and almost 100 years. We live past Gampo Abbey, about 3 kms from the cottage. We are here to help you have a great time and keep you informed on what to do and see while you're staying at Cliff Waters. If you're here for a week, we'll have you down to the house for a meal made with fresh eggs from our chickens, and berries and vegetables from our organic garden, or lobster from the sea - what ever is fresh and in season. If you're here for just a few days, we'll have you for coffee and homemade snack. Whatever the length of your stay, we'd like to meet. We enjoy meeting new people very much - it is a true joy for us. We have been fortunate enough to meet some of the most wonderful people from all around the world at our kitchen table. Waterfront Description & Nearby Activities Just down the road is a Buddhist monastery. Around 25 people live, work and study at the Abbey year round. They meditate daily in a shrine overlooking the Gulf of St. Lawrence, and balance their study with a work period in the commune. It is not uncommon to travel the remote road and see nuns and monks walking, maroon robes dancing in the wind - quite a remarkable sight. There is a Stupa of Enlightenment on the Abbey grounds with slogans of wisdom engraved in stone. You can tour the Abbey daily in the afternoon throughout the summer for a small donation. At the end of the dirt road, a footpath continues along the coast for roughly 9.5 kms to an abandoned settlement named Pollett's Cove. In the early 1900's, large families lived here with fishing and farming as a way of life. There was a school, a lobster canning factory, fishing shacks and houses. Large boats delivered staples such as sugar, tea and molasses in exchange for goods that the community produced. Today local farmers set their horses to pasture there, creating a very green, peaceful and fertile river valley - well worth the hike! The Cape Breton Highlands National Park is accessible within minutes and the large Park offers a wealth of hiking trails, guided tours and sight seeing opportunities along the Cabot Trail. There is an information booth at both entry points into the Park in Cheticamp and Ingonish. We provide a Park pass free of charge for all guests staying at the cottage. Whale tours depart daily from the harbour. We highly recommend scheduling a tour as the vastness of the undeveloped landscape of our wilderness protected areas and our National Park can be seen in great detail by boat. Whales are extremely common in this area and sightings are guaranteed by most operators. You may travel by fishing boat or by zodiac. We recommend going by zodiac as you can cover so much water quickly, for those who enjoy a rush. We recommend the older style fishing boats for those who enjoy the nostalgia of a day gone by. Either way, pick a clear day, and ask the operator to take you up the coast to Pollett's Cove if he can.
  • Our stay at Niki’s cottage was a wonderful place to make great memories! Clean and cozy with the wood burning fireplace. Full kitchen to make great meals, fantastic landscape to explore! Excellent experience!

  • What a view and what a lovely little cottage! We only booked one night but wish we had time to stay longer. The place was so clean and the bed was very comfortable. I would highly recommend a stay here!

  • This cottage is as close to the ocean as it gets! Beautiful sunset feet away from the deck. The cottage itself is gorgeous with lots of character. High ceilings, loft, and a very comfy bed. Make sure you take advantage of the wood stove as well! Will be back for sure.

The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to prepare a lobster dinner, and the fireplace was a comfy touch to a perfect evening. Would definitely recommend, and would love to return!

Welcome on Sugarloaf! This house is elevated on the waterfront of North Harbour facing the rising sun in the morning. Relaxing rest in a quiet invironment. No problem if you party on the fireplace in the lawn. Ten minutes away from the Cabot Trail and close to famous Cabots Landing and the beaches. Access with boat trailer to the water on property.
You will feel this place is built to spend your best weeks of the year here. Your privat beachzone is waiting for you, all the exiting places of the Cabot Trail are close. Great hiking, fishing, boating, sightseeing in the harbours and highlands.
Most of the properties on the Bay St. Lawrence Road are waterfront properties with privat access to the shore. The properties are big, so you do not disturb your neighbours. The water n the harbour is very warm in summer, since it is a inlet behind a miles long sand beach you can access from different places. In spring and fall the highlands behind the road offer a unbelievable picture of colours.
  • We had a great stay at Chris and Marlise's trailer. The location is amazing, and the garden, fire pit and view are exceptional. The location is just the best, as you can easily reach any side of the Cabot trail, and even meat cove! This meant we could see most of the park without ever straying too far from the property. The property looks exactly like it does in the pictures, it's an old trailer, with a homely cosy feel. There are lots of little heaters, but it is definitely starting to get chilly (early October). Fortunately, the shower is great, with endless hot water at a really strong pressure. There's a coffee maker, giant fridge, oven, oil, salt, pepper, herbs and spices, meaning you don't have to think of taking everything. Thank you a pleasant vacation!

    Leigh2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Nicer than pictures. Bring bug spray and your telescope for star gazing! On the bay not the ocean, but at night you can hear the waves crashing! Incredible view of the sky!

  • Great location to visit the North Cabot Trail. Nice and quiet bungalow with a really great view ! The best beach in the area is only 2mn drive (Cabot landing). I definitely recommend this place. Thanks Chris and Marlise

  • We had a fantastic time at sugarloaf. My husband, niece, cousin, cousin's wife, and daughter all stayed there for 4 days with our dogs. We loved the views and the beach nearby. The location was perfect for us. The only downside was the grocery stores nearby are not very good. Overpriced and not stocked with veggies. Bring your own groceries and water. There are restaurants nearby too and most are pretty good. We would definitely stay again.

    Kim2019-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful view. Perfect location for our two hikes . White Point trail and Meat Cove.

    Diane2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • We just returned from our Cap Berton trip. We stayed in this cottage for 3 nights. It was an excellent and amazing experience. To us the cottage was the best place in that area. Those few days we did not think we were someone else's house, it felt so own. Imaculate condition gave us wonderful feeling. Evrything was in order and beautifully placed. The location is just great. We went to Meat Cove, Whale watch, Cabot Landing Beach, Neils Harobour, Igornish Beache etc. All were in close proximity. Chris and Marlise were very communicative. They replied our question right away. I must thank the local host Ms. Kim and her partner as well, they are so nice people and surely Kim keep the standaard of the cottage beyond expectation. we adult and our kids loved it very much. We will be back again for sure. I can assure you that you wont be disappointed if you stay there. Thanks again Chirs and Marlise. B. Mukul

  • We chose this cottage for its location, near the cabot trail and a lot of hidden gems that are not in the national park. Sadly, our 5 nights stay was not enough to see it all. Time went by so fast. Kids enjoyed card games before bed. The cottage was clean and cozy. We had a great time! Thank you.

  • Helene and Jacques were both incredibly sweet! They welcomed us when we first arrived, and showed us around the air bnb. Helene had sent me a schedule of some events happening around the area, and they were happy to answer any questions we had! The spot was clean and included everything we needed and more! We ended up cooking more than expected because the kitchen was so cute, with such good quality appliances. It’s also in an awesome location on the cabot trail, not too far from anything, and only a few minute drive from some awesome trails as well! We’ll be sure to stay here again if we come back!

  • Helene and Jacques were great hosts! Their place was a great location for all we wanted to do in the Ingonish Beach area. The place was immaculate! I wish I had planned better food wise and shopped maybe in Sydney before heading to their place. The kitchen was well equipped to prepare a meal or two while we were there. There is a small local grocery store nearby but it closes fairly early in the evening.

This cottage offers the ultimate get-away-from-it-all experience! Perched at the edge of the sea, it offers an incredible view and all the peace and tranquility you could want. Situated at the end of a long private drive, the beach is a 5 minute stroll along a breathtaking cliffside path -- yet the cottage is just a few minutes from groceries, restaurants, whale watching, and everything else that Ingonish has to offer.
The cottage's simple style doesn't skimp on conveniences. It includes a fully equipped kitchen, a comfortable living room that highlights the spectacular view, a huge deck, and comes equipped with a BBQ, beach chairs, & board games for a vacation experience you won't forget.
The cottage is just off the main road (the Cabot Trail) but set well back (the road can't be seen or heard). Its central location offers very quick and easy access to all that Ingonish offers and makes it an ideal base to explore the National Park.
  • This place is perfect for a stay in Cape Breton. Great location, amazing views and the rustic cozy feel of the cottage just feels right. Tracy and Lisa were great hosts. They both went out of the way to make our experience as worry free as possible. From arranging for a play yard and high chair for our daughter to providing extra lights and candles during a storm. I have been to Cape Breton a few times and this is my favourite place to stay. The people in Ingonish are amazingly friendly, the hikes can’t be beat and there are a couple of great restaurants and cafes.

    Kacey2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • The location was great. Everything you need. Nice local grocery store & restaurants.

    Trudi2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect cottage for a cabot trail/Cape Breton Highlands retreat. The cottage has all the necessary amenities one would need on a retreat. It is only a short drive to Ingonish beach as well as the Franey Trail (one of the best hikes in the park). The hosts are exceptionally friendly and very responsive. Overall we had an amazing stay.

Salty Rose's and the Periwinkle Café is located in Ingonish on the famous and beautiful Cabot Trail. Our charming rooms are nestled above a bustling art & craft shop/café and in walking distance of two stunning beaches. We are surrounded by National Park so you will find many hikes and trails close by. We are also near other restaurants and local shops and there is even a goat farm next door! Come to stay in our quaint rooms and sleep with the sea breezes. Price includes 15% HST
This unique, charming and retro apartment is as sweet as can be. It overlooks our front yard and boasts amazing views of the ocean and Ingonish Island. Enjoy your own cute kitchenette and stylish en suite bathroom. It features a firm pillow top queen bed, 100% cotton linens and a lamb's wool duvet. The light colours and sea breezes create a tranquil place to rest your head. Perfect for close friends and even better for couples or honeymooners.
We are so lucky to be situated in this beautiful, rural area surrounded by the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. You do not need to purchase a 'Park Pass' to reach us but we do encourage a pass if you are going to be hiking and exploring the many beaches and lakes within the park. We are just minutes away from a small grocery store. Also there are two convenience stores, a liquor store and a Scotia Bank in town. If you are travelling in spring or late fall we recommend that you come well prepared or do your research as shops often start to close earlier in the day and restaurants may close early for the season.
  • While we visited during the off-season, the weather was a bit rainy, but still beautiful! We didn’t get to try any local restaurants or the cafe as they were closed for the season, but they looked great! Luckily there was a local market where we were able to purchase groceries to cook for ourselves. The kitchen had the basics, but could have used a few more items. I’m sure most visitors do not expect to cook full meals during the regular season : ) Unfortunately the oven did not work (we were notified prior), but the stove was perfect! The space was very clean and well decorated! Would definitely recommend!

    Amy2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a sweet little venue in a beautiful area. We went during the off-season so most things were closed including the Cafe. But I’m sure it be would be if you went in season. The hosts were very helpful.

    Meghan2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Enjoyed our stay in the apartment and having the use of the full kitchen, especially because it was shoulder season and everything was closed!! We came prepared with groceries and were able to cook dinner and breakfast. The coffee and pastry was a wonderful treat the next morning. The cafe and shop is filled with local makers and offers beautiful little treasures. Enjoyed a nice walk down the road exploring the village and beaches in the evening. A nice stop along the Cabot Trail and wonderful hosts.

    Kalli2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful little apartment, great hosts, and a delicious cafe downstairs. The smell of coffee crept upstairs in the morning and was a very pleasant way to wake up. Will definitely be back.

Bricin, and his family are amazing! They're the most laid-back, friendliest people I've ever met, and anyone who stays here won't regret it. 100% would stay again!

  • As a solo traveller in my 60s, I was a little concerned that I would feel uncomfortable and out of place. Not a concern at all! Such a friendly and welcoming space. The hosts are so lovely that their energy and positivity seems to be shared by the guests. Loved the presence of children as well as the facility is shared with the family. Great advice on itinerary which I appreciated. Although this is a shared space, lots of good touches to add comfort - bookshelves and books of course, wonderful common spaces, bed side lamps etc. Great location as well! A real gift for travellers!

  • This was the most unique little gem I’ve ever come across on Air BnB. I simply can’t wait to return during the summer to experience the beaches, hiking trails and campfires. Will definitely be back for a couple more days next time around. Kathy Ann and John have a way of making you feel welcome from the moment you meet them. You will not be disappointed!!

  • What can be said other than it was a great stay. The land yacht did not disappoint. It had all the amenities one would ever need. You are minutes away from trails, shops and food. The private setting makes it a great place to sit back and relax. Highly recommended, would go back again.

  • Very beautiful place, very kind hosts. Google maps takes you down a narrow path be careful

  • Our airstream adventure was in a word - perfect!! The trailer was amazing - it had all its 1975 charm and several Kathy-Ann touches that made it a fabulous home away from home. It’s location is perfect with great food and hikes just down the road and everything you need in the trailer to cook in if that’s your thing. The bonus was a nightly campfire that we were invited to share with our hosts! I look forward to visiting again next year.

  • Very cool, the Airstream is in great condition and the host has gone to great lengths to make everything comfortable for her guests.

  • This place is a true gem with two phenomenal hosts. Kathy and John were both so welcoming, we loved sitting around the campfire in the evening with them. The Airstream is beautifully decorated and is mostly all original! We had breakfast on the patio and planned our purchase of an Airstream:)

  • Sweet hosts who we shared conversation around a campfire with. The air steam itself is clean, cozy, and as pictured. Easy to find in Ingonish.

  • Staying here was an amazing experiance. From the comfy beds to a gracious host it was more than I expected. I highly recommened it.

A lovely cottage on three acres of meadow and forest in the extraordinary Aspy Bay region of Cape Breton. The house offers serene, panoramic views of South Harbour, South Mountain and the ridge of mountains that extend to Cape North, the island's easternmost point and in many ways the end of North America. Aspy Bay and surroundings are without question the crown jewel of Cape Breton.
The cottage, with two comfortable bedrooms, an airy screened porch and a large common room filled with light and water views, is tucked among birch trees at the end of a point, surrounded on three sides by water. It comes equipped with two classic Old Town canoes, awaiting at shoreline. The screened porch offers the perfect spillover for eating, reading, lounging, playing cards. The property is a few minutes drive from the Cabot Trail and a short hop from White Point, Dingwall and the incredible South Harbour Beach. From the cottage you can paddle across the harbor to the beach, or simply loll around fishing for stripped bass as the bald eagles fly overhead. By mid July the point is thick with blueberries. From here you can easily reach all the wonders of outer Cape Breton, from whale watching at Bay St. Lawrence and Meat Cove to day tripping over to Cheticamp and the incredible salmon fishing in the Margaree River. Several of the towns nearby--Cape North, Neil's Harbour, Ingonish--have a variety of fun dining options. Nearby rivers offer topnotch fly fishing, cliff jumping and fresh-water swimming. There are trails that an entire summer couldn't get to the end of. The house--available from mid May till the end of October--is perfect for one or two couples, a family of four, or for anyone seeking solitude and calm.
  • The cottage is awesome and the location can't be beat! Neil is a thoughtful and considerate host.

  • Absolutely outstanding cottage in one of the beautiful places of the world. Right on the sparking water of South Harbor, surrounded by lovely birch trees but with a perfect view of the water. The cottage is clean and crisp and refined with lovely windows and furniture. Neil's welcome and information packet alone is worth the price of admission. It contains a wealth of historical and local information that could keep you busy for days. We highly recommend staying here and eagerly anticipate our return.

  • Beautiful place. Growing up in Cape Breton I’m well aware of the great spots and this is certainly on the top 5. Sunrises, the night sky and the water - perfect combination. Highly recommended!

  • I was a little hesitant, at first, because we weren't ON the ocean but I was so glad we stayed here. It was perfect and much calmer than the ocean would've been at the time of year we came. If you do want to swim in the ocean, the beach is right there, a short drive away. You can canoe if the water is calm enough. Scenic views to take in while sipping your morning coffee - not just the views but wildlife too! My wife was unsure about not having any couches but the chairs were perfectly comfortable. Since it's right off the Cabot Trail, traffic is light but the trail is right there. Neil was a fantastic host, he sent us a little info packet and I think we did every hike he suggested. Highly recommend Sugar Loaf to avid hikers. It's true you spend the majority of your time outside but his little house comes equipped with everything you need in terms of making food down to a pizza stone! Water tastes good. Cottage is super clean and tidy, even comfy. Envious that he owns this little piece of heaven but so glad he's willing to share it! October colours were gorgeous! It's off season in terms of tourism but it was peak in terms of fall foliage! Thank you, Neil, for everything! Hope to return!

  • This cottage was very neat, clean, and up-to-date. We are a family of four, with two girls ages 6 and 9, and the cottage really had everything we needed: Wi-Fi, laundry, kitchen utensils and cookware, extra blankets, beautiful views, board games, outdoor shower, canoes, adult life jackets, etc. There is no grill for BBQing, but there is a tiny fire pit. There's no TV or couch, but you don't drive to the beautiful middle of nowhere to watch TV. You can eat outside on the screened-in porch, but small holes in the screens do let in mosquitoes at a certain time. Although I felt obligated to mention the small downsides in this review, our stay overall was excellent. Neil was a responsive host, and I would highly recommend staying here if you love nature!

    Catherine2017-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Very magical & some of the best scenery Cape Breton has to offer. Definitely recommended!

    Thomas2017-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a wonderful stay at Neil's cottage! It is so peaceful and relaxing, and truly a wonderful place. We were able watch bald eagles, great herons and kingfishers from the porch each day, and enjoyed a canoe trip around the harbor.

    T2016-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Neil sent a me a multi-page letter about how to find the cottage, how to get the key, where to get groceries, what to do on Cape Breton, where to eat, and much more helpful information. Finding the cottage was easy, even though it was getting dark when we arrived. The cottage was great - just as described. The best part was the surroundings. There were wild blueberries growing along the shore, and eagles in the trees across the water. We saw three moose on our hike on the Skyline Trail, but, unfortunately no whales on our whale watching tour. I would definitely recommend this wonderful cottage.

  • Blue Bayou is a fabulous place to stay on the Cabot trail. They are located at the top, halfway around the trail. The community they are building is so cool. We love staying in domes and these ones were the coolest we’ve stayed in. Having a private bathroom inside the dome is truly unique to the area. Thanks for having us and creating such a cool, unique place to stay.

  • Secluded spot that makes you feel way off the beaten path, but it's right on the Cabot trail. Stefan and Shanshan were wonderful and very available to make our experience the best.

    Alexandra2019-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Very beautiful location and host and family were very nice. Beds were okay- not that comfortable but okay. This was their first season open, so I think they may have more amenities in the future. They had kayaks to rent onsite for going out on bay. Close to cabot trail. Each site had a picnic table, small heater, water heating was unlimited/on demand, small electric water heater and french press for coffee. Everything was clean, but concrete floors were unfinished and left concrete dust/residue on all our bags- but overall we liked staying here. I would have planned to bring charcoal or fire wood for cooking outdoors and ice chest (and ice) if we went again. They moved us to unit 9 due to other reservations, but most of the queen units seemed to be the same. View of lake was amazing. One negative: Dirt road and around the site was pretty muddy coming in. Likely from recent construction- hoping in future seasons there is at least gravel down.
