One mile from the yuengling brewery, close to Wal-Mart, fast food places, a small mall, and thats about it. Im vegan friendly so if you need help with finding vegan options around here I can help. The wheel in pottsville has the beyond meat burger and also daiya cheese available.
Single home with off street parking, built in 1889, working on remodeling so the downstairs is mostly done but the bedrooms are still like the 70's. Nice area very safe. Right off of rt 81
Its pretty quiet. Not too much going on locally, were known for yuengling brewary so if I'm around i can show you where that is. Centralia the burning town is 20 mins away. The hills have eyes was based off of that town. Im located about 3 miles off of interstate 81 so good for a quick stop and easy to find
  • Lazer went above and beyond to be an excellent host. We felt safe, comfortable and well taken care of!

    Dawn2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I (and our dog Yuki) stayed with Lazer for a weekend while working a convention nearby. It was a last minute stay—and with a dog to boot but Lazer was very accommodating, fast with communication and so incredibly kind to us. He chatted with us on our first night and really made us feel at home. The house itself is a little small so it’s better if there aren’t too many people in the group for a single booking. Also the stairs to the rooms are a bit steep—so I not ideal for elders and kids but other than that it was a pleasant stay and definitely recommended. Also very awesome shower! You won’t regret it!

    Diandrea2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is our 2 nd stay.. we enjoy Lazers home and him.. very chill and relaxing..

    Alma2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lazer was awesome, made us feel very welcome! He took us to a local restaurant, and even gave us a tour of the town which was very nice. Very hospitalble, and very generous. Would totally stay again!! Loved it!!

    Sunserae2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • My friend told me I have a knack for finding Airbnbs that are a much better value than they should be. Lazer's place for instance has two comfortable private beds, a recently renovated kitchen and bathroom (done by Lazer himself), and a shower that I can only describe as a biblical experience. If you are ever in the area (Pottsville, Hamburg, Port Clinton, etc.) there's no better place to stay!

    Ted2019-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great place to stay during a several day visit. Our host communicated with us throughout the entire process and was quick to respond to all of my questions. The shower is one of my favorite ones so far of all the stays used through the service. We would most definitely stay again when the chance comes back up.

    Nathan2019-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • Lazer is a great up-and-coming superhost. His home is cozy, off the beaten path just enough but very close to the interstate. There's lots to do and see in the area, so this is a great spot particularly for a hub to recharge and refuel before venturing out into the mountainous terrain. I plan on venturing that way again, and when I do, I'll try to look up Lazer.

    Nick2019-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Home was neat and host was eager to be of assistance even before we got there and during our stay host went the extra mile to make us feel comfortable. Quiet neighborhood also. I recommend this home to everyone, you would love it.

  • Mary and Yaz were so nice and helpful. The place is very cute and clean. Mary left helpful notes around and fresh brownies for our arrival. I would absolutely book there again!

  • Lots of room, very clean, brownies on arriving, great as base for visiting the area

    Tony2019-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first Airbnb stay and it was, by far, in excess of my expectations. The apartment was easy to find, there is plenty of parking and check in was a breeze. The space was sparkling clean, much larger than expected, very comfortable and cozy. Looking at the pics, I expected something like my Grandma's house but I found the pictures were a bit deceiving. The decor was super cute, beautiful paintings on the walls. We especially enjoyed the fresh brownies, frosted mugs and board games. Mary was very easy to communicate with and offered some great personalized suggestions based on our interests. We visited Grafitti Highway, Yuengling Brewery and Long Trout Winery/Disc Golf. There is so much more to do in the area and when we return, we will definitely stay here again!

    Jillian2019-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • Mary and Yaz's place was amazing. The perfect place to stay! Their special touches made the experience that much better!

  • The house was very clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with all the utensils you would need. The beds were very comfortable and were just the right firmness for all of us. It is an older row house, but looks like it has been remodeled and was very pleasant. There is a stairway to the bedrooms and bath, so like many two story buildings, it is not handicap accessible, but that wasn’t a factor with our group, we had no problem with the stairs. Dave was quick to answer any questions we had and was a great guy to work with. It is situated in a nice, quiet area. If you are looking for a nice, comfortable place, this is a place to consider. There were 4 in our group and we all agreed that if we are back in the area we would definitely rent this again. A big thumbs up to Dave.

  • This was a very clean household, amazing price as well!

    Nikola2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • David’s place was awesome! Very comfortable with sweet touches throughout. Great communication and local tips, excellent host!

    Natia2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • I absolutely loved David's house. It was roomy, comfortable, super clean, and my family loved it. I loved the idea that my dogs could be part of my trip and comfortable as well. I liked the fact after being on the road for a week, that there was a washer and dryer to use. By far the best host out there. David was very nice and kept in touch with me!!!!

    Jessica2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Great place! Clean and felt at home. We were visiting our son who only live 4 minutes drive from the house so the location was awsome for us. Great touches and snacks for us and our pups waiting for us! There was plenty of things in the pantry and fridge. We could have cooked a entire meal if we wanted to! Thanks Dave!

    Douglas2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Do not stay here!! Because I want to be able to stay here every trip to Minersville. Great house. Clean, safe and cozy. Perfect.

    Brian2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • A super cozy, clean, and comfortable spot. David had quick responses and excellent communication. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the pillows were some of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept on. Having a pet friendly place to stay was wonderful. I also loved that there were a few snacks and drinks available.

    Jenna2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Let me just say that of all of the AirBnB experiences I've had, this one was THE BEST. if you're reading this and considering staying here, let me go down the list of things you want to know: First off, the house is cute, and very clean. The little touches that Melissa laid out in the decor are adorable, so it feels personal in the house. All of the appliances work just fine. The shower's hot water lasts a long time. It's got a 4' fence in back yard for pets. It's got a parking spot available within a close distance of the house. Oh, and Cousin Dave is literally the most awesome Host ever. Now that the tiny details you're wondering have been addressed, let's get the the real stuff: As I said, Cousin Dave is awesome. If he's available to hang out for a bit, do it. You will not regret it at all. We were here for a birthday weekend getaway, and Dave even gave us some cupcakes to celebrate with. We got some local tips of hang out joints and places to eat. We even shared a beer at a local pub with our host (Shout out to Strikers Pub for being amazing and welcoming. I didn't know it was possible to feel like I was on an episode of Cheers) It was great seeing a host who was so proud of his town, and had some amazing and hilarious stories to share. We met quite a few awesome people there, we came away appreciating Minersville PA a ton. We plan on going back. And when we do, we'll be staying at Cousin Dave's.

  • Lovely suite, beautiful bedroom, and tons of little touches like toiletries and snack foods, cereals, etc... Hosts are a very nice couple doing great work in their community. Solar panels on the roof and they're planting trees in the back. The backyard is a lovely hill to start the morning with. Great place to rest your head.

  • Martha's place was perfect for our needs. There was plenty of space. Having the bedroom separate from the living room space is great for us since my wife likes to go to bed earlier than me. Can't do that in a hotel. There were some nice touches like the Keurig coffee maker, the breakfast cereals and milk. The bed was comfortable. Great stay.

    Stephen2020-03-02T00:00:00Z

  • This little cabin is the perfect getaway for a long weekend or anytime really. It's secluded enough that you have peace and quiet, but not too far away from everything. The view is amazing and this was our first time seeing the stars that bright. We enjoyed grilling and making s'mores on the campfire. Everything was amazing and we didn't want to leave!

  • The cottage was such a charming place for a getaway! It’s nestled away for a relaxing feel, but close enough to towns with options of restaurants & activities. We were welcomed with a note & some goodies, which was the cherry on top. The cottage was very clean and well put together. Overall, we had a lovely stay and would recommend checking it out if you’re ever in the mood for a quick trip out of the city!

  • A perfect place to disconnect from electronics. I still had service but it was nice to wake up to nature sounds. The house was beautiful and cute. They left us a care package that topped off our stay. I live in MI but if I ever out this way again, I will be staying here. Even if it’s out of my way. My best Airbnb stay yet! 100% RECOMMEND STAYING HERE!

    Reggie2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was the perfect place for a relaxing weekend getaway. It’s the perfect size for two people! While there isn’t a stove or WiFi, we didn’t find these to be a huge hinderance. A hot plate was provided and was definitely enough for a short weekend stay. The absence of WiFi meant our phones were down or off most of the time (something that can be hard to do nowadays)! We loved being surrounded by the mountains and farmland but easily got to the nearby small towns. Plus we were only 45 minutes from a bigger town/small city! There are some many cute little places to go explore.

  • Neil’s and Sherry place was great! Their home was so cute and clean. The location was so peaceful and gorgeous. When you walk in your welcome with some delicious goodies. My boyfriend and I will definitely be coming back.

  • Lovely private home in a quiet area in rural Pennsylvania. Also, very easy access from I-78 with basic amenities just a few miles away. The home was clean and provided everything needed for a pleasant stay. There is Verizon phone service in the home. It was quite hard to see the driveway from the main road, especially in the dark, so use the GPS location provided and look carefully. Not far north are mountains with many hiking trails, including part of the Appalachian Trail. Do check as part of the area closes to hikers for hunting season.

  • The log cabin is a wonderfully cozy, very clean place with all you would ever need and then some! I highly recommend this place!

    Lisa2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Christina’s place far exceeded our expectations! It was so cozy that we wound up canceling our plans and spent our day relaxing by the fire. The cabin has a relaxing, rustic feel but features modern, dimmable studio lighting and brand new appliances. It is beautifully designed and clearly a lot of thought went into the development of this place. Christina was an incredible host and even stocked the fridge with breakfast essentials for us. If you’re looking for a quiet winter getaway, don’t hesitate! We hope to return soon.

  • This was a cute and cozy lovely place to stay. We enjoyed relaxing and hiking nearby trails. It was a nice surprise to have Hershey bars for s’mores and Yuengling in the fridge! We would definitely stay here again

    Nadine2019-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Mike and Betsy's place for 1 night on my way driving across country with my 3 dogs. The house was very cute with a lot of country charm. The property was beautiful, unfortunately I was only staying 1 night and it was cold, so I didn't get to enjoy it much. It is certainly a place I would come back to for a retreat in warmer weather. Mike and betsy were very good at communicating and helping me find the place and check in smoothly. My battery died on my car and I was in a rush to leave in the morning to be in NYC by noon. Betsy was nice enough to drive to the cottage and buy jumper cables on they way just to help me out! She certainly went above and beyond and I am so grateful for her kindness!

    Monica2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • I booked Mike & Betsy's place last minute for a trip to Harrisburg for a competition with my dog and am so glad I did. What a little gem of a place! Betsy was helpful and communicative when I was struggling with the key pad. It was a stormy night and I was completely comfortable and cozy for the night! Definitely will book again next time I am traveling through!!

    Sue2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a gem! It's only two hours from Philadelphia and we were able to bring our dog. We spent a quiet and relaxing weekend reading books, roasting marshmallows over a campfire, and taking our dog for walks through Sweet Arrow County Park. It was a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle. Mike and Betsy are thoughtful and communicative hosts. We're already planning to book this place again.

    Morgan2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice and affordable place.

    Mollie2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • This was simply the best cottage we have stayed at. The location was very central, but out of the way. It was quiet, we were serenaded by ducks on the lake and there was room for our dog to run around. Every little touch was perfect. The cottage was clean, the bed was restful (we slept great), the cottage had supplies for cooking and eating at "home". Highly recommend.

    Jodi2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Mike and Betsy were extremely quick and easy to communicate with! Their cabin is adorable, so clean, and full of thoughtful touches. We took advantage of the campfire out back. They provided firewood and the cutest s’mores kit! The lake view is very pretty, and besides some occasionally noisy geese ;) it was very quiet and relaxing! The interior is very homey and cute, and it is very well stocked with all the utensils and condiments you would need. I would definitely come back for a relaxing weekend!

  • Loved staying with Carolyn and Gene. They are such a sweet couple and the apartment was perfect!

    Molly2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Carolyn and Gene’s is a hidden gem in Pottsville! We stayed here for the weekend so we could visit Yuengling and it was within walking distance. The apartment was very clean and much cuter than I had expected. Carolyn and Gene were also very accommodating to specific dates we wanted to stay. I will definitely use this place again next time I’m in town!

  • Great hosts, clean apartment, much better choice than any motel in the area!

    John2018-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment is gorgeous. The photos don’t do it justice. I met Carolyn and Gene and they were extremely friendly and helpful. The apartment was above and beyond my expectations. I grew up in the Skook, so believe me when I say this apartment is honestly a hidden gem.

    Courtney2018-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • This Airbnb was available at the perfect price at the perfect time during a major personal and professional transition that involves an eventual family move between states. This was exactly what I needed, and I am grateful for the opportunity to stay here. Carolyn and Gene were extremely responsive to questions and comments. Definitely would recommend this property for an extended stay. Excellent value. The only downside was the on-street parking. This is not the fault of the hosts, although the lack of vacant spaces in front of the property posed challenges occasionally.

    Steven2018-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay regardless of whether you're staying for a short or long time. The apartment is very close to everything Pottsville has to offer and Carolyn and Gene are the best!

    Alexia2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice home and well decorated. A little bigger than expected and pond is very nice.

    Nick2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Neil and Sherry are great hosts. The house was easy to find, was clean and had clean tap water too. Neil and Sherry left us some baked goods when we arrived. The place is 10 mins away from Gas stations / restaurants, very accessible.

    Prachi2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great place. Before arrival we had all the instructions and arrived to a beautiful pond in a secluded area which made this feel like a peaceful getaway. There was fresh baked goods waiting for us with a personalized message which we are thankful for. There was no TV or WiFi which is up to you to decide if that’s okay but we found it fine as we spent a lot of time enjoying the outdoors. There was a winter storm but the heat and hot water were working perfectly. This couple is happy to have their home open to others and very friendly. With a few tweaks this place can truly be a perfect getaway and I would definitely rent again.

The Bismarck offers 3 guest rooms with private bathrooms, a sitting room with 2 additional twin beds and homemade breakfast in our large 1909 historic home. Great hiking and biking trails, are less than two blocks away. The area offers small town charm while being close to big town comforts and lots of wineries.
Wilson Schmick, owner of the Hamburg Broom Works, had the house built in 1909. The house is a large brick home, it has a pair of wide gables framed with layered diagonal brick peaks. The balustrade frames the wide full width porch. The long windows give the mansion the Italianate touch. Art glass windows are found in several place in the house. This mansion sits on a terrace above the street and has seen much happenings through most of the twentieth century.
  • The Bismarck Bed and Breakfast is a great place to get away for a weekend :)

  • Breakfast was amazing - we weren't hungry at all for several hours of hiking! We thoroughly enjoyed Charlotte's wonderful hospitality and appreciated the beautiful house. Charlotte gave us lots of tips on where to eat and what to do; she was very knowledgable about the area. She gave us a great historic overview of the house during breakfast and was just a lot of fun to talk to all around. We got exceptional value for what we paid! We'd definitely like to go back - lots of great hiking and skiing nearby.

Mt Carmel is a really small town that was booming at the height of the coal era. It is located in a beautiful valley and is surrounded by mountains. There are very interesting things to see and do. Our building used to be a gas station until my brother renovated it in the 1980's. (It has since undergone a recent complete renovation) My close family friend lives in the apartment downstairs. A convenience store is located two blocks away. Also a grocery store a few more blocks away.
  • You must stay at My brothers place! It is has all the amenities you could possibly need! Great location always had parking. A Beautiful place to stay.

  • Such a nice clean remodel on the interior of the home. Enjoyed the walks in town with my dogs. Loved the unique experience of a Pennsylvania mountain town. The home is definitely for the healthy agile type as it is a 2nd floor apartment with the only access a steep staircase. Enjoy your stay! We will return. If ever in the area again.

  • Very clean place with a keurig and coffee in the morning. We also enjoyed the bottled water. The kitchen had everything we could possibly need. Very stocked place. A Netflix movie at night was a special touch. Very clean... Just perfect for my husband and I. We will be back if we're in the area again.

    Roswitha2019-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • My girlfriend and I stayed here for an extended period as we worked at Geisinger Medical Center. Although it was a good 30 minutes away, we were lucky to stay in a beautiful apartment. Clean, cozy, and comfortable. Launa was helpful from the very first day, quickly replying to any and all messages. The local neighbors were friendly and helpful during our stay, too. The apartment was modern, with working appliances and ample kitchen space. The living room was utilized nightly, watching Netflix on the Roku TV and lounging on the comfortable couch. The bedroom, although warm at times, was very comfortable with space for clothes hangers. The town of Mt Carmel is an old coal-mining town. Truthfully, not much to do but we loved the Italian restaurant, Mattucii's. All in all, it was a lovely apartment that comfortably fit both of us. Thank you, Launa, and I recommend My Brother's Place to all those looking for a comfortable stay in Mt. Carmel!

  • Better than expected! Such a cute location with many things to do nearby, while having some privacy being located off the beaten path. Would highly recommend!

  • This cottage was just too cute and perfect for a quiet girl's weekend for two of us. We had plenty of space and loved the decor. There were thoughtful touches all through the house. We drove 15 minutes to Jim Thorpe and spent a day there, stopping at Walmart on the way home. So convenient! We would like to stay at the cottage again, in the warmer months, to enjoy the scenic outdoor space also!

  • Great host. Very Private. Very nestled away from the city. Hope to be back soon.

Our cabin is your portal to rest, peace and tranquility! Inside is a cozy, comfortable retreat and when you step out the back door it's like entering a little piece of paradise. We're told that it's the perfect place for a writer or artist to release their creativity but it's also a great place for a couple's or family getaway.
Our one room cabin is conveniently furnished with a kitchenette, seating area, expandable dining table and queen bed. A sofa provides comfortable seating and opens into a queen size bed. The kitchen includes a full sized fridge, electric range, running hot and cold water and is equipped with the basics in pots and pans, dishes, cups and utensils. There is a heating and cooling unit that will keep the cabin comfortable during all seasons. A small enclosed bathroom inside the cabin holds a compost toilet. Shower facilities are inside the farmhouse which is only a short walk from the cabin. The back porch of the cabin is an idyllic spot in itself, as it overlooks a large creek. It's the perfect place to enjoy a cup of morning coffee or to eat your lunch at the picnic table with the sounds of the creek flowing just below the bank. There is a small private yard to the back of the cabin with a fire ring for cooking if you prefer to make your meals outdoors. The creek that flows through the front of our property is great for wading, fishing, critter catching, tubing, etc. Guests are also welcome to walk through the woods to collect hickory nuts or to pick berries from the many varieties of berry bushes around the property.
We are off the beaten path, which is why so many people comment about how quiet and peaceful it is here. The nearest town, Virginville, is only a mile away but don’t blink or you’ll miss it! Kutztown, where Kutztown University is located, is only ten minutes away. There you can find groceries, gas, cafes, a small local movie theater and other quaint stores and shoppes.
  • If you need a quiet place to get away and to enjoy the beauty of nature, this is the place! And the host is so gracious. Beside the cozy cabin, we had a wonderful time walking around the farm, enjoying the creek and building a fire to roast hot dogs and marshmallow outside the cabin. It is only a few miles from the town if we need to go out to eat or to get anything.

  • Very clean cabin, small and homey. Great place to get away for awhile

    Andrew2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • My family was looking for a place to stay while visiting our daughter who attends Kutztown University. We could have stayed in the hotel the just opened down the street from the University but staying here added a fun, outdoorsy experience that made our trip even better. The cabin is on a peaceful farm surrounded by nature. We enjoyed going to visit the cows as they grazed in the pasture. We also took a hike in back of the farm and got to see a group of sheep grazing. There is a fire pit & picnic table in back of the cabin that we used in the evenings and in the AM. It feels like a private backyard and overlooks a beautiful creek. The cabin was quaint and really all we needed. The bed was comfortable and the pull out sofa bed was fine for 2 teenagers. I did attempt to sleep on it and I quickly moved back to the bed. Coffee was provided. There is a compost toilet in the cabin which was fine once we got the hang of it. The full bath with shower is actually located in the main house just a few steps away but it's part of a sun room that is shut off from the owners residence so it did feel like a private bathroom to us. My kids also enjoyed playing with their 2 very friendly cats. I would definitely stay here again next time we come for a visit. It was very quiet and relaxing and it reminded me of camping (maybe more like glamping!)

    Brooke2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cabin with an equally stellar atmosphere. Just be aware that you will have to leave the cabin and go into the main house to shower.

    Everett2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Arrived at Joy & Dave’s a little later than expected but everything went super smooth. Woke up to an amazing view from the back of the cabin. At breakfast at the leesport diner which isn’t too far, had lunch at the setter ridge vineyard (they had a festival so we tasted wine and cheese, they also had a food truck) for dinner we went to ozgoods, again not far at all. The cabin was super tidy and peaceful! Can’t wait to come back. Thanks Joy & Dave was a pleasure.

    Tina2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Really awesome place on a beautiful, quiet farm with a creek running through it. We happened to have beach chairs in our trunk, which we placed in the middle of the creek, while drinking a beer and reading a book The cabin was spotless and had everything we needed - coffee, condiments. there is a little porch, so if you do get some rain, at least you can still be outside. we also really enjoyed the location, roughly in between Kutztown and Hamburg. I hate city driving, but driving 10 minutes or so to each of these towns is a beautiful site-seeing trip unto itself.. each town had a brewery and a few nice little shops.. and Renningers antique and food market, outside Kutztown was a nice bonus, too. ... way better than a hectic summer weekend down the shore. we'll definitely return

    Chris2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Joy's place was amazing. The place itself gives you a sense of peace. I love it so much! It's a quiet and lovely place. The place had all the basic necessities for cooking. We were able to talk and think without the chaos of life. It is a very lovely place for a getaway. The outdoors accomdations were a plus too! It adds to tht inner peace that is needed becauseyou can sit outside and walk.

    Mar2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Everything we needed to thoroughly enjoy ourselves! The cottage is very clean and comfortable; the stream is perfect for wading and tubing, with shady and sunny spots and a large willow; the farm is beyond beautiful and open to be explored. It was a special pleasure to watch the family drive the cattle across the stream into another pasture one morning. Their love and care for the animals and their property is clear. There’s plenty of wood and cooking gear if you want to make a fire, and there’s a binder with menus from local restaurants. A large grocery store is a ten-minute drive away. All in all, peaceful and welcoming with everything you need.

The guesthouse is a great place for people trying to get away from the hustle & bustle of daily life. Enjoy nature & wildlife in this private & peaceful setting.
  • We had an awesome weekend! The property and the area around is gorgeous. It was a great break from the city to get into nature for the weekend. There's no wifi or cell service, but there is a landline in the house.

  • If you want a cozy and comfortable getaway this is the perfect spot. The house was adorable, warm and clean. There’s no service at all so if you’re looking to escape from your phone for a while this is the place to go. Highlights were definitely the fire pit plus there’s a TV with a VHS player and tons of movies, and we even brought a GameCube and hooked that up. Easy to find yet secluded at the same time. Hosts live just up the hill too if you need anything or if there’s an emergency. Would definitely stay here again! Easy 5 stars

  • House is much better than what is shown in pictures. We came in late at night, but the host was very cooperative and had a very good check-in, only problem was with the location and route to get to the house. But, it was perfectly described by host, we just had to follow his description. Overall it’s worth the money and it’s a great stay.

Renovated Schoolhouse with lots of vintage charm! You'll be staying in a former large (24 x 30 ft, 720 sq feet total) classroom. Included: your own bathroom with laundry! A one of a kind local landmark. All are welcome! Great for anyone looking for a unique experience. Easily accessible from Interstate 81 off the Delano Exit 134 or Route 54. Very close to Jim Thorpe and many outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, swimming, and golfing.
COVID-19 update: the Schoolhouse is committed to hosting guests despite this pandemic. Because parts of the property are shared, we have temporarily suspended instant booking. If you'd like to book due to an emergency situation, please send a message to inquire. We will resume regular bookings in May if cases of the virus subside. We have increased cleanings and disinfection routines before, during and after guests arrival for everyone’s safety. For this reason, the cleaning fee has increased from $30 to $40 per reservation. We are also asking that guests use the mini fridge in their room only and to bring paper plates /cups and disposable utensils if possible. We also can provide these with advance notice if guests forget or do not have access to these supplies. Guests may use the kitchen to cook but access to the large fridge is restricted to prevent cross-contamination. Please know that we are doing everything we can to keep everyone safe, thanks! Discover more on our website! Enter “Grier City Schoolhouse” in your search bar and the website will appear at the top of the results. The schoolhouse was built in the early 1900s. Grades 1 - 8 occupied the four classrooms, with two grades to each of the four classrooms. Many of the old architectural details remain, including the grand staircase, double door foyer entryway, original hardwood pine floors and original millwork. The windows are over 90 inches tall, providing light to all the rooms throughout the day. Guest comfort is of utmost importance. Unlike other properties, we have purchased linens specifically for guest use and do not use old hand-me-down towels and sheets. All items are selected for comfort and style--no clashing patterns or garish designs here. All beds include premium supportive down pillows (with pillow protectors!) and luxurious down comforters during the winter months. The mattresses are comfortable and not too firm for a great night's rest (they are also covered with protectors). Towels and washcloths are provided. All bedding (including duvet covers) and towels are washed after each guest. You can rest assured that your safety and hygiene are of the utmost importance. All decor has been hand selected and curated by the host. The Schoolhouse includes an array of unique antiques (hand painted signs, mod electric fireplace, typewriters, games) and features a curated selection of mid-century antique furniture. In addition, old photographs of the school during its operation are displayed around the room along with the owner's paintings and prints in the guest room, kitchen, foyer and bathroom. This is a unique space -- don't miss your chance to experience such a wonderful rural retreat!
The schoolhouse is located in a peaceful residential area surrounded by trees and grass. Very calm, quiet and tranquil! The road gets a light amount of traffic during the day and very little at night. As an important note, there are no amenities within walking distance of the property, a short five minute drive will take you to the closest grocery store. Local Attractions include: The town of Jim Thorpe featuring shopping, live music at the Mauch Chunk Opera House, restaurants, whitewater rafting, cycling and more! Only a 30 min drive. Tuscarora State Park is perfect for hiking, swimming, and fishing. They also offer rental boats during the summer season. Just a 5 minute drive. Locust Lake State Park features hiking, swimming and other outdoor activities. Just a 13 minute drive. Mountain Valley Golf Course is open to the public. They also have a nice brunch on Sundays. A 15 minute drive. Yeungling Brewery, America's oldest, is a 25 minute drive away in Pottsville. They offer tours open to the public. Great antique shopping is all over the area. I can give you a list of stores if you are interested. On Wednesdays from 8am -7pm (6 pm in the winter), the famous Hometown Farmer's Market is the place to be. Stop by for fresh produce, local wine and honey, Amish delicacies and many other inexpensive stores offering everything from antiques to electronics. There are also a number of stores serving a wide range of breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Only a 5 minute drive.

  • The schoolhouse was a perfect place for four teachers to stay while visiting family in PA. It was bigger than we expected and the renovations are unique and charming. Maria is quick to respond and her cat, Tarot, is an added bonus. There are pictures and articles throughout about the schoolhouse history. It is a very unique place to stay. We all loved it. "Truly magical" were the words of the first guest when she discovered this wondrous retreat, full of surprises for kids and grown-ups, just downhill from the Appalachian Trail. Go for a walk in the woods, go for a bike ride, splash in the creek, or just laze the day away in a fireside rocker with a good book. With two bedrooms, a clever sleeping alcove, and a futon in the Secret Playroom, the cabin sleeps six, seven if you banish snoring Uncle Arslan to the couch.
There's hiking, biking, fishing, canoeing, bird-watching, sight-seeing and shopping nearby but maybe you just want to dissolve worries and refresh your spirit. You won't be able to resist the gentle burble of the Stone Creek. And although remote, it's outfitted with all the modern amenities. Your vacation is more than an investment of money; it's an investment of your times and hopes, and I take your investment very seriously, as the reviews show. With all it's wondrous touches, this place is guaranteed to delight you. You'll feel like you're at the home of an invisible friend who wants you to have the best possible time. The kids won't want to leave the Secret Playroom (more quiet time for you!). Washer, dryer, central air, instant hot-water heater. Wood stove, fire pit, fully equipped kitchen. Though you'll probably spend most of your meals watching the forest scenery from the window table, leaves of the oak dining room table pull out for a full formal meal. Beware that GPS will lead you astray. The cottage is ¾ of a mile down a winding single-lan dirt road, across a creek from Route 183. The cottage is 2½ miles north of the intersection of Route I-78 and 183, about a mile from the Berks/Schuylkill County border Cabela's is 12 miles away and Lancaster County 40 miles. The cottage is 163 miles from Washington, 130 from NYC, 92 from Philly. Gettysburg is 80 miles away, Knoebel's Amusement Resort is 30, and Hershey Park is 35. Both the Yeungling Brewery and Rausch Creek are 22 minutes away. Maps, guidebooks, and a custom notebook list the hundreds of other activities, adventures and amusements nearby. The house was built by local artisans from local stone and wood. The floors are reclaimed oak; the cabinets and mantel reclaimed Doug fir. A local Amishman hand-crafted the front door and window table, and the gorgeous beds were made from local wood by nearby craftsmen. The antique oak table desk and other furniture, no way to know their origins. What's provided? The cottage has a wood stove in the stone fireplace with firewood and kindling provided; a 43" flatscreen TV with basic cable, Dolby 5.1 sound, blu-ray DVD player, all connected on the local wifi. There are plenty of board games, the type you grew up with, and wondrous libraries for adults and kids. The fully-equipped kitchen has everything you need: induction stove, microwave, toaster, drip coffee maker, Bialetti moka pot, with hand-crank bean grinder, crockpot, fridge, dishwasher (hooray!), cooking utensils, pots and pans, flatware, dishes, and glasses. I provide basic staples like ketchup, mustard, mayo, butter, sugar, flours, teas, olive oil, vinegar and spices so you don’t need to worry about the little stuff. And of course I include the ingredients for the must-use spaghetti ice cream press. On the window table is a 3-ring binder of instructions on how to work basic home utilities (TV, cable, wifi, thermostat, trash), along with the 14-page list of local activities, and a map to the AT. There are 2 main bedrooms, each with a queen-sized bed; the sleeping alcove houses a twin, and the Secret Playroom has a full-sized futon that will sleep 2 kids. Big family? The companion "Cozy Appalachian Trail Cottage" is just across the creek. Book the two! When you come, bring a printed copy of the directions, a flashlight, and food; laptop and cellphone. I provide all the bed and bath linens, household papers, and soaps; firewood and kindling. Do not bring your own firewood as it may house infestations of dangerous insects the the spotted lantern fly and emerald ash borer. An early guest commented on the taste of the well water. I have since installed a stricter water softener system with carbon filters, so now there is no mineral scent or taste. No need to bring your own water.
  • Wonderful house in the woods for a weekend away! The kitchen was stocked with pots and pans, the wood pile was ample, and the welcome book provided a variety of excellent tips for enjoying the surrounding area (we particularly enjoyed the Appalachian Trail hike). Mike was a great host and was easy to communicate with. Would definitely return!

  • This cabin is the perfect getaway!! But it is still close to anything you need. There’s a creek that runs behind the property which makes it so picturesque. Our two kids (7 and 4) loved the little playroom off one of the bedroom. The beds are wonderful even the bed that is in the cove is very comfortable. The house is peacefully quiet. The kitchen comes with everything that you could need. All the appliances are brand new and there’s tons of silverware, plates and cups. This dining room area seats plenty of people between the table and the side boards. The bathroom has a standup shower with amazing water pressure. Everything was clean and we felt right at home from the moment we entered. We hope to stay here again and again!

We really enjoyed the fireplace while playing games and just spending time together. This was the most amazing house we have ever stayed in. We are planning to come back! Thank you Mike !

  • We had an amazing time! The kids barely left the secret room. Hearing the creek for bedtime was magical. It was epic.

  • Wow! This is one of the best airbnbs I've stayed in. The property was super private with just a few neighbors on distant lots and dense forest in between. The space itself is filled with nice touches like board games, every kitchen appliance you'd need, tons of extra blankets, towels, and pillows, outdoorsy books and guides, art, and knick knacks. Narnia was of course a huge hit too! We loved having the wood stove going all day, cooking in the clean and updated kitchen, and spending time together in the spacious and cozy living room. We were a total of 6 adults and fit perfectly. We brought an air mattress that we used in the living room at night for a little extra space, but you'd be able to sleep 6 people without it too. The couch is actually really comfortable for sleeping as well! I'm so glad we got the chance to stay at this cabin and appreciate some of the natural beauty we have here in PA!

  • The house was beautiful and very clean. We enjoyed being surrounded by nature and listening to the creek. Our children very much enjoyed the home as well- very kid friendly! Mike was an awesome host - very attentive to detail. We look forward to visiting again!

  • Mike's personal touches at this quaint cottage made our stay perfect. He provided a lot of extras that made our stay more relaxing and enjoyable: comfortable beds, plenty of towels, coffee, indoor and outdoor firewood, and charcoal to name a few. The washer and dryer were a lifesaver as we were there on a soggy weekend. I absolutely recommend future renters follow his driving directions!

    Judy2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • A clean, thoughtful, comfortable space abutting a creek, trees, rushing water and all the modern conveniences, a real gem! We all loved our time there!

  • Very nice and cozy cottage. Great spot to stay, we got in a few hikes on their beautiful and large property that follows a peaceful stream. Also great jump off point to Hawk mountain and Pulpit/Pinnacle hiking trails. They have all basic kitchen needs that allowed us to cook all of our meals at their place, including using their grill one night. I would recommend staying here to my friends.

  • Great stay. Quiet, convenient check in and overall relaxing weekend.

    Justin2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was quaint and quiet. Exactly what I needed for the weekend. They accommodated a last minute schedule switch too. Very nice. Definitely recommend.

  • This was a great weekend getaway! The house is cozy, clean, and perfect for 2 people. The house also sits on a great piece of land with lots of room to walk and explore. Thanks for a great stay, Dennis!

  • The property and coziness of the cottage were as good as it gets for the price, I’m sure. Everything one would need or ask was laid out thoughtfully in advance. The kitchen was great for cooking, the property was great for getting away, and the host was great for ensuring the trip was stressless. Maps showed us a location slightly farther down the road, but even with that and being in the pitch dark it wasn’t too hard to find the location. When the sun came up, the view was incredible. Went hiking casually, saw a few dear and rabbits, loved the nearby country store and butcher, and was able to get away from the world for a couple days. Would and did recommend to friends already, and will be back as soon as I can.

  • Photos just don’t do this cottage and it’s location justice- the property was absolutely beautiful and the cottage had so many amazing and unique touches. We enjoyed the trails and the local tips as well as staying cozy indoors when it got rainy. We will definitely be back!

  • Cozy cottage with access to a gorgeous private property. Warm hospitality from a friendly and knowledgeable gentleman, Dennis. Would book this great location again!

    Ashley2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Dennis was very quick to respond. Check in and check out was a breeze. Very comfortable space. Plenty of kitchen items to make delicious meals! Loved it and plan to return!

We are located very close to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, way off Hawk Mt Rd in a quiet setting. Guests have access to a small private refrigerator, private bath with tub and shower. Although bed is a futon, I have a huge amount of padding and it is very comfy. Use of kitchen possible; just check with us. We have a cat and a pet parrot in case of allergy issues.
Although we live in the country, there are several good restaurants within a 20 minute drive, a great orchard in season, and a fabulous funky country store that sells great sandwiches and wraps 10 min away.
  • I can’t say how much I enjoyed staying in the beautiful home and how kind Howard was during our stay. If you’re looking to have a restful weekend or going away for the week, come here. It’s so close to great hiking trails on Hawk Mountain and there are a number of cool spots to eat nearby. I definitely recommend the general store about ten minutes away. They also have a cute cat named Midnight who sat in my lap during breakfast (if you have allergies, don’t worry—they don’t let Midnight in the guest room) and a beautiful parrot, Alex. It was a joy to stay here!

  • Great location, kind host, interesting home built by the host!

  • Lee & Howard’s home was a joy to experience. Just a few miles away from Hawk Mountain makes it easily accessible to world class hiking and bird watching. Clean, cozy with thoughtful touches throughout. An incredible value for a quick getaway or long weekend. I already can’t wait to go back.

    Alex2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place. Our visit was very short but GREAT. Lee was a great host and we had a good time. Love the cat and the bird. We will return!

    Diana2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing stay with some truly wonderful people. Relaxing and private experience in a beautiful location.

    William2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • As advertised. Slept well on the nice firm bed in the quiet private guest wing. Opened the door to the deck and enjoyed the bird song. Felt like a welcome family friend.

    Dawn2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lee’s room and accommodations were perfect, exactly what an Air BnB should be. I went for a weekend alone and check-in was a breeze. Greeted by Lee & Howie, I felt right at home. The room was private, clean, and the thoughtful accommodations were a nice touch. I was given plenty of space, but Lee & Howie were never too far for a local recommendation or chat about the area. Coffee and a lovely, healthy spread for breakfast in the mornings was really nice to wake up to. I will certainly be back.

    Nick2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Lee is an excellent host, warm and very helpful. Knowledgeable of the area and made great suggestions for excursions. Would highly recommend to everyone! Animal lovers paradise, plenty of wildlife around the property as well as friendly and well-behaved pets.

The Shanty is a quiet, sunny room just a few steps from a private bathroom in the main house. A day bed and trundle bed accommodate two single sleepers. The Shanty has a desk and a bistro table. It has a small fridge, a reading chair and lamp. There is a bureau with drawers. The Shanty has ample lighting fixtures and electrical outlets. Window AC and overhead fan will keep you comfortable. Baseboard heat provides warmth in cool months. Breakfast is included.
The Shanty is perfect for someone who has a short term work assignment and wants a peaceful and quiet place to call home. It’s also a quiet retreat to compose music or write, or perfect for two friends who want to share accommodations. Couples are certainly welcome but there are twin beds. The Shanty is across the road from a dairy farm and is surrounded by farmland. The Shanty is very close to the foot of Blue Mountain. Lots of wildlife in the field behind the property--deer, wild turkeys, foxes and an occasional coyote or bear. I have two indoor kitties and also take care of a feral cat colony. All are sweet and well cared for. No cats have been in the guest house in case you suffer from cat allergies.
The Shanty is at the foot of the Blue Mountain, surrounded by farm land, close to Leaser Lake, Hawk Mountain, Bake Oven Knob, the Pinnacle, the Appalachian Trail, the D&L Trail, and the Lehigh Gap Nature Center. There is a wonderful general store nearby for deli sandwiches, local organic produce, grocery items and local pottery, wood carved bowls, jewelry and hand loomed rugs. There is a rental business for kayaks and canoes if you want to get out on the lake. In the winter, ice fishing is popular. There are several local wineries and a distillery nearby. From my front door, you can hike three miles to the top of Blue Mountain and get on the Appalachian Trail for more hiking. There is a wonderful upscale farm to table restaurant, as well as several casual places for cheaper meals within 5 to 10 miles. Nearby Ontelaunee Park has several restored pioneer buildings. Olde Homestead Golf Course is 5 minutes away. The Shanty's location is a perfect place for an amateur genealogist who wants to spend time in the local cemeteries where the early German settlers are buried.
  • Lynn is the best host ever. Place is quiet, clean and comfortable. I’ve been relocated for work and I couldn’t ask for a better location and host.

    Dona2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • This place is perfect and so is Lynn.

    Dona2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • If your idea of a perfect country morning is waking up under a soft comforter to birdsong and sunshine streaming through lace curtains, this may be the place for you. We soon found that the short walk from the Shanty up to the main house rewarded us with the aroma of fresh coffee and a hot breakfast prepared by our remarkable host Lynn. Our new best friends, affectionate cats named Spicy and Pepper, curled up nearby. Nine options for breakfast ranging from basic continental to Huevos Rancheros can be ordered the night before from a menu in the Shanty. The Shanty itself is a cozy space that sleeps two under rustic wood trusses. TV and internet are provided, though we opted instead for the wonderful silence of the early winter New Tripoli countryside. As a couple of stressed out city folks, we heartily recommend a stay at the Shanty at Blue Mountain.

  • Lynn is a SUPERHOST, and I was her first guest for almost two months. The place is clean, she's a great cook, the scenery is very nice, (pre-sunrises, red mountain, Leaser Lake, Hawk Mountain), there are two very nice cats, Spicy and Pepper, and there's even wildlife to photograph. I have pictures of some great memories. Thank you again Lynn, Mark R. Pompano Beach, FL
