Your guide to Mundaring

All About Mundaring

Mundaring is a suburban community in the Perth Hills that sits along the Great Eastern Highway. Located in the Shire of Mundaring, the town of Mundaring itself is one of 11 villages that fall under the municipal area. With easy access to nature parks, hiking trails, and several artisan markets, Mundaring makes for a great jumping-off point to explore the ecologies of western Australia in the John Forrest and Beelu National Parks.

Beyond the outdoor opportunities, there are several art centres, museums, and a sculpture park that you can explore during your stay in this Perth suburb. Be sure to check out the Mundaring Arts Centre, where exhibits from local artists are on constant rotation. Works of art across various mediums, including sculptures, jewelry, and painting, are on display and often available for purchase here. They even have workshops available for those interested in joining in the creative process. From nature excursions to artist's communities and day trips to the coast, Mundaring has a wide array of opportunities available to participate in during your stay.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Mundaring

The climate in Mundaring is similar to the neighboring city of Perth with hot, dry summer and fall seasons and extremely rainy winters that require an umbrella and warm layers. During the summer season, you can browse the monthly Perth Hills Artisan Market with handmade goods, artworks, natural beauty products, jewellery, and more. In February and March, the long-running nonprofit Perth Festival celebrates the Indigenous culture, creative thinkers, dancers, local musicians, and filmmakers who are currently impacting the country’s art scene.

Top things to do in Mundaring

The Bibbulmun Track

The Bibbulmun walking track is one of the longest unbroken trails on earth, stretching nearly 1,000 kilometres from start to finish. With one end of the trail located near Mundaring, you can easily plan a day trip and spend some time hiking and exploring the marri forests in the area. The track was designed with all fitness levels in mind, and you can easily adjust trips to whatever difficulty level you feel comfortable taking on.

Lake Leschenaultia

The waters of Lake Leschenaultia make for a welcome reprieve from the heat during summer months, and a peaceful escape during the cooler seasons. Paddling activities, boat rentals, swimming, picnic areas, campsites, and public barbecues are available for use throughout the year. A three-kilometre walking trail that wraps around the lake is open for hiking during the warm months, and you may even see some kangaroos or possums. For off-road cycling, you can take advantage of the 10-kilometre bike trails.

Mundaring Weir Dam

Constructed in 1903, the Mundaring Weir Dam is one of Australia's most impressive feats of engineering. The Weir helps supply water to Kalgoorlie, Coolgardie, and the rest of the region, with some destinations being as far as 700 kilometres away. The on-site museum, walking trails, and picnic areas, along with plenty of opportunities for wildlife viewing throughout the site, make this an ideal location for a day of exploration.
