Welcome to Camp BigFun, a 12 acre PRIVATE Lake camping area nestled deep in the Blue Ridge Mts at 3400 ft of elevation. Cool summer time temps and too many outdoor activities to list. We currently have 6 tiny cabins, 2 tiny campers, and several unique tent camping areas. We are surrounded by many activities to do around the area. 25 minutes to Boone. We have a rare "dog park" off-leash designated area where dogs can swim/play and a kennel onsite if you need to go offsite. Please read pet policy.
This tiny cabin sits off the beaten path back in the shaded woods, it has a nice outdoor space with a covered out grilling prep station, seating, lighting, and a huge fire pit. it has a boardwalk that leads to the bathroom facility (aka Port o potty lol). Inside is a cool setup of high bunks , mid level bunk, and lower bunk, and finally and roll away bed for the extra guests. it has a seating bar type kitchenette, plenty of cooking stuff, flat screen TV with Directv. Linens provided. mini fridge with small freezer space. It also has its own private parking space apart for the main parking lot.
Todd is a quaint little town, but is very active in the summers, Jefferson and Boone are only 25 minutes away. Enjoy the New river for all things river related. It is a slow meandering waterway with several tubing outfitters, and nearby by "Rivergirl" for flyfishing guides and kayaks/tubes/bike rentals. Biking along railroad grade road next to the river is popular activity as well.

  • Such an awesome place. Visited in the winter and it was a blast. Can’t wait to return and use all the cool amenities! Eric was present and helpful and everything was great.

    Mike2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Get ready for a very cool experience!!! My boyfriend and I have never been glamping before and I’m so happy our first experience was at Camp Big Fun. I honestly thought I’d be uncomfortable. Nope. I was beyond comfortable and so was our pup. Everything we needed was there. Silence, lots of fresh mountain air, the hot tub, and the beautiful lake with a trail around it. Eric was amazing with communication which is important to me. It rained the first day we were there and he suggested we hike to Cascade Falls. One of the coolest hikes I’ve ever done! Afterward we sat in the hot tub and watched TV in the Hide Away Cabin. I will definitely be going back and hopefully bringing some of my family. It was absolutely magical being there in the winter. I wish I was there now!

    Anna2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Eric’s place was really cozy and great! The only thing that my family had a hard time with was with the port-o-potty’s but other then that we had such a great time even our grandparents were having lots of fun even though they weren’t used to the cold despite it they’d be walking all around the lake! And all the little ones loved it!

    Kat2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome place to relax and enjoy the scenery! The lake and all the toys were great

  • A great getaway with beautiful views. Truly a cozy cabin tucked in a mountain side, and only about 15 minutes away from the Blue Ridge Parkway. My husband and I stayed with our dog (who especially loved it) over Christmas. We lit a fire every night and we’re able to cook full meals in the cutest little kitchen. Don’t fret if you don’t have plans, the host had plenty of literature and maps on where to go and what to do. 10/10 would book again.

    Cameron2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect for my husband and I and our two dogs to get away for the weekend. Definitely would have felt right if there were any more people/pets. Good location about 25 minutes from downtown Boone and closer to West Jefferson which has a great little downtown worth exploring! We had no issues finding the cabin thanks to the great instructions left on how to get there, however there is no cell service so make sure you either print out or download the keypad code prior to arriving, otherwise you’ll have to drive back down to the main road until you get service again to find it (speaking from experience). We would definitely stay here again.

At this time - We are only welcoming longer term stays! This special "glamping" cabin is built around a live tree!! Yes, there is a living tree in the center of this hexagon shaped cabin.
Glamping Cabin - Tree Top has a live tree in the center of the octagon shaped cabin. Tucked up high on the hillside with a flight of stairs to the secluded entry deck that looks out into the woods and a charcoal BBQ for your use. This is a primitive camping cabin (no electricity or en-suite bathroom), and is furnished with a plush memory foam mattress on a platform bed. We provide sheets, pillows, blankets and bath towels for this cabin. This is a true "glamping" experience. You have access to an indoor bathhouse located near the cabin. The bathhouse has a shower(hot water!), flush toilet and a sink.
Located in the heart of Ashe County, and just 18 miles from Grayson Highlands State Park, close to everything that there is to see and do. Hike, bike, canoe, kayak, explore the quaint shops, drive down quiet country roads, our area has a lot to offer!

  • Wonderful place! Definitely would stay here again and recommend to others! We were in Tree Topper and it was great! It has no power or a bathroom compared to the other cabins but it was so cool to have a tree in our room! And a beautiful view!

    Samantha2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely little hideaway. Perfect place to unplug and reconnect with nature. We cooked dinner out on the charcoal grill. Drank plenty of freshly pumped spring water. Built a fire to roast marshmallows for smores. Close proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Grayson Highland Park, local restaurants and breweries. Don't forget to take home some handmade soaps and peach-pepper preserves!

Be sure to stop by and explore Thistle Meadows Winery while on your drive. If the outdoors is calling you, a wealth of hiking can be found in our many parks. Explore the New River State Park, Mount Jefferson State Park, Grayson Highlands State Park, Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, Grandfather Mountain, Pond Mountain, Bluff Mountain Nature Preserve, Doughton Park, and nearby Stone Mountain State Park and Three Top Mountain. Ashe County offers a wealth of Fly Fishing opportunities! From streams to the New River, fly fishing is a popular activity for anglers of all types. March thru November is the high Fly Fishing season on the New River in North Carolina. You can hook a great deal of varieties including small mouth bass, rainbow trout, brown trout, mountain trout, muskellunges, carp, flat-head and channel catfish. There are numerous anglers throughout Ashe County that will direct you to the best spots along the New River. • Great getaway. Wished I could have stayed longer.

  • Anne’s place is located in a beautiful camping ground with fire pit and surrounded by beautiful nature. I wish I was there to just chill and enjoy the place but I was busy with school and work. The cabin is drafty but as expected in a cabin. I love the soaps she makes. Anne is a gracious host.

    Rizalyn2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Healing Springs is lovely and rustic, hidden nicely away in the woods, but still close to town(s). The budget cabins are adorable and much nicer than the pictures. The only negative is that the wall between the two cabins is so thin we could hear the folks next door snoring! But the age and history of the buildings are all part of the charm. Great getaway place!

    Lisa Marie2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • So much local history in the Healing Springs! The cabin we were in was perfect and the healing spring water was so refreshing. My only complaint is that we couldn't stay longer!

  • Perfect escape from a busy lifestyle, very clean, quaint cabins, that is perfect for a getaway! The sound of the stream at your front porch is so tranquil and relaxing. Definitely will be back!

    Danny2019-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this place! The cabin was great!! Loved the healing spring and its history! Loved Annes homemade soaps and lotion! We ate a a little pizza joint in town called Pie on the Mountain. It was the best pizza I ever ate!

    Carolyn2019-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I absolutely loved our stay here. Beautifully updated cabins but still with a hint of rustic charm. The bed was so comfy and the spring water was delicious. So relaxing and serene. My husband and I loved waking to the sound of nature and the cows mooing from the farm next door. Such a beautiful spot tucked away in the mountains.

At this time - We are only welcoming longer term stays! Tucked away at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Tree House welcomes you to Healing Springs. Our Tree House is a "glamping" cabin tucked up in the trees along a babbling brook. The Healing Spring was discovered in 1884, come and drink the water!
Our Tree House is a camping cabin perched upon locust tree poles. This rustic retreat was built with reclaimed lumber from an local homestead that was over 100 years old! It does not have electricity or an en-suite bathroom. It has a plush Queen size bed and comes complete with sheets, pillows, blankets and bath towels. The Tree House Cabin is a true "glamping" experience. You have access to an indoor bathhouse located close by that features a sink, shower (hot water!) , and flush toilet. There is a chiminea fire place and Adirondack chairs set at the base of this cabin.
Located in the heart of Ashe County, and just 18 miles from Grayson Highlands State Park, close to everything that there is to see and do. Hike, bike, canoe, kayak, explore the quaint shops, drive down quiet country roads, our area has a lot to offer!
  • The treehouse was very cool, but doesn’t seem to have the wall I saw in the pictures anymore, which was actually very nice- the space was more open. The grounds are very serene as well and the spring nearby was very refreshing! The little store where we checked-in was also very nice with many local products! Overall, this was an excellent place to stay for our trip and I would definitely come back!

    Brooke2020-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • My husband, 4 yr. old daughter, and I stayed in Anne's Treehouse for the weekend. We LOVED every minute of it. The beds were cozy, the propane heater kept it very comfortable, and the surroundings couldn't be more beautiful. We hiked, explore West Jefferson and the Blue Ridge Parkway, fed the chickens and made s'mores. Anne has created something special in Crumpler and you should experience it for yourself!

    Laura2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay! The space is so incredibly charming and the warmth and hospitality were unmatched. Would stay here again and again. Highlights: chance to buy delicious local cheese and peach pepper jelly; creekside accommodation with calming sounds to match; personal chiminea with rocking Adirondack chairs for a perfect day’s end; deck to soak in the lovely pastoral views with coffee in hand; ultra comfy bed and abundant windows with tree cover that make the space so inviting. Again, 10 out of 10. Already trying to find a reason to return.

    Natalie2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, easy check in. Nice amenities to be a tree house, private fireplace with firewood already chopped, towels and homemade bar soap left in the room for use. Fresh eggs, soaps and meats for purchase from the farm in the store. And free spring water with a pitcher in your room to load up!

    Courtney2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great hospitality, beautiful location. Anne made sure everything we needed was prepared before our arrival and she was nothing but helpful the entire trip. 10/10 experience.

  • Anne was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and we truly did ENJOY our stay in the cottage. We loved how she raises her animals and just to see free-range chickens and hear mooing cows and tweeting birds did our hearts glad. The food is incredible. Anne's customer service was pristine, and her property is incredible...a living picture. You get beautiful views of the mountains and can walk her property which is also mountainous. Thank you Anne also for allowing us to drink from the healing springs....soooo refreshing. Thank you!!!!! The Miles crew

  • We stayed in whistle-pig cabin, a small space, perfect for an overnight/weekender stay. Cozy and true to mountain-spirit, Anne’s cabins are furnished with Appalachian artwork and rustic barn-feel touches. The handmade soaps are great - we bought a bar of the “happy” scent. Would recommend!

They have soaps and fresh meat and eggs available in the common area that is all sourced from the farm on the property which is an awesome touch! (Plus the soap smells great). Anne was very friendly and was available when we contacted her :)

  • Anne’s place was just as described, and a great value! She was even thoughtful enough to read my mind and set the key out so I could check in late. If rustic and minimalist are your thing, this place is the perfect fit.

    Kelsey2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed in the Whistle Pig cabin with my boyfriend and we had a great trip! The cabin feels private while still being just a short walk from the lodge bathroom. With the ceiling fan plus open windows it was a nice temperature. The space was very clean and comfortable, and checking in/out couldn’t have been easier. We chose this cabin because it was the one in our budget, but for people wanting more space there were many other cabins on property that also looked nice!

    Emma2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Whistle Pig Cabin was exactly what I was looking for in a secluded getaway. The cabin was cute, clean, and comfortable. It is an affordable, no-frills option for anyone who needs a restful escape. Anne was friendly and helpful. There is no private restroom, but the clean shared restroom is just a short walk over to the lodge. My dog loved morning and evening strolls around the property and all of the friendly petting she got. The area is beautiful and close enough to some wonderful hiking spots to make a great base for some nice day trips. I will definitely be considering Anne's cabins for future getaways.

  • Charming location with thoughtful touches. We loved staying in such a unique place. We did the walking path and used the fire pit and had a fabulous time!

  • This tiny home was amazing. If you are a Wizard of Oz fan such as myself, it is a must stay! The decorations were amazing and it was super clean. The outdoor shower is great and there is hot water instantly. I loved the focus on detail and the area was quiet yet I did not feel isolated. Great place to make a fire and just relax. The mural and artwork were just amazing! I would highly recommend this tiny home!

  • Great place loved it.

    Katie2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • One thing to understand is that this is Glamping. It is sheltered camping with an outside shower, an outside bathroom/outhouse, and it is not heated nor air conditioned. I felt that it was clean, safe, and comfortable. It runs off of solar power. Do not expect to leave every light in the house on all night. Don't think that you're going to have television, a stove, nor heat, nor air conditioning, because that is not what you are paying for. This is feinexpensive camping, with a roof over your head and a comfortable jQcomplaints. I would not hesitate to book this tiny house again. The hospitality was great. I was greeted by the husband and wife team, whom explained where to get wifi, and how to use the shower etc. Good people. No complaints. It's a Very affordable option in the West Jefferson, NC area.

  • Debra was so responsive and accommodating. I was just passing through and reached out to book same day. The shower is great and the place is exactly as I expected. I would stay again!

  • Awesome little cabin and property! We especially loved the outdoor shower! Great experience!

    David2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great glamping experience and hospitality! The Dorthy cottage is cozy and comfortable. There is a shared charcoal grill, pavilion, and fire pit. The property has beautiful gardens and relaxing places to sit and talk or read a book! Would definitely recommend, and if glamping isn’t your thing they also have an Inn right across the road!

The Buck Mountain Lodge apartment is ideally located in a quiet mountainside setting just 5 minutes from the shops and restaurants of West Jefferson and a half hour from Boone. Area outdoor activities abound with great hiking, fishing, tubing, canoeing, and kayaking all close by; an ideal area for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits, and of course there are the Christmas trees! If you are looking for a great mix of quaint mountain towns and spectacular outdoor activities, this is the place to be.
This separate entrance two bedroom, one bath apartment has been fully renovated with the finest of materials and craftsmanship. The apartment accounts for the entire first floor of the lodge and features 9’ ceilings in the living areas, rustic furnishings, and tasteful “mountain” décor. The entry / kitchen area features slate floors, new alder cabinets, granite counter-tops and all new appliances. Log beams separate the kitchen from the living room where there is ample seating and a dining area for those times when you want to stay home and put together your own meal. A wood burning fireplace is available for your enjoyment during crisp fall and winter stays. There are two beautifully furnished bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other a full. A full bath is located between the two bedrooms and includes new fixtures and granite topped vanity. There is a private deck off the front of the house for relaxing after a day of taking in all that the area has to offer.
Country subdivision setting with well spaced homes on heavily wooded lots lending a feeling of privacy to the area. You can really only see one other house from our property; we see more deer than neighbors. Seasonal Christmas tree mountain views from front deck.
  • Buck Mountain Lodge was the perfect place for a getaway weekend. It is both cozy and classy, an easy drive into town, and the fireplace is the perfect touch in the winter. Mary was the perfect host!

  • Second time staying here. This is a great air BnB

    Thomas2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful space! We were seeking a peaceful weekend in a stylish space and that's exactly what we got. Mary's place is clean, comfortable, and more than enough space for two adults. We loved the wood-burning fireplace and were so appreciative of the bin of wood she provides for each stay during the fall and winter. Mary responded quickly to questions and made sure we had everything we needed while allowing us to have as much privacy as we wanted. We hope to return to West Jefferson and will definitely request Mary's place when we do!

    Gina2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great cozy cabin setting with easy access to Boone or Wilkesboro. All the amenities needed, beautifully decorated and comfortable. I was impressed with the town of W Jefferson and all that it offered. Great way to bring in the New Year! Thanks to Mary for her hospitality and opening up her home.

    Lisa2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Mary’s place worked great for our family, and we enjoyed our stay. Mary was easy to communicate with and made everything seamless.

  • Our stay at Mary’s was awesome. I told her that we were visiting for my daughter’s birthday and she had a birthday sign hanging in the entry way :) The space is cozy and clean, the view is beautiful and the local spots provided everything we needed. I’d highly recommend staying here.

Our place is at 2,500' elevation, ceiling fans to keep you cool. For winter, central heat or a fireplace keeps you snug and warm. It is so quiet you can hear wild turkeys crossing the driveway. It is close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, New River, the Wilkesboros, West Jefferson, Boone (30 min.), Virginia Creeper Trail (1 hr.), W. Kerr Scott Lake (16 miles with great mountain biking). We think you will enjoy the coziness and mountain views. Our place is good for couples and solo adventurers.
The bedroom looks out into a leafy space. Quiet sitting on the deck reveals bird sounds and sometimes wild turkey, deer or foxes. Rarely, a shy black bear makes an appearance in the blackberry thatches that line the roadway. At twilight you sometimes see a bat or two chasing bugs. A dark night showcases lightening bugs and millions of stars. It is nature alive, but only a fifteen minute drive to Coffee House, Food Lion and Bojangles Chicken.
We are only two miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway with hiking on the Mountain to Sea trail. We are about 20 minutes to the New River for canoeing or tubing. Other water sports are available at W.Kerr Scott Lake, which has several parks, boat and kayak launching.
  • This was my second stay at the cabin and of all the AirBNBs I’ve stayed in, this one is always my favorite. Jerre and Madeline are so sweet and the cabin is always clean and quiet, homey and comfortable. Can’t wait to come back in the spring!

    Kelly2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is quiet, clean with amazing views and sounds. It was a perfect retreat with great hosts. I highly recommend it.

    Meghan2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • This place is very clean and very peaceful

    Michelle2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Jerre’s cabin was great to stay in for the weekend. It is cozy and the views from the deck are amazing. The weather was great while we were there, and even though it rained for a little bit we could still be outside due to the covered deck.

    Alaina2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful stay! Our hosts simply could not have been more hospitable or done a nicer job on this gorgeous cabin. We are most definitely making this a semi-regular vacation retreat!

    Laurie2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • I had a wonderful time staying here. Madeline and Jerre were so kind and helpful, and their cabin is top notch! I arrived a little late and they were outside waiting for me when I pulled up. They told me all I needed to know about my stay there and were very helpful with my travel interests. The cabin is immaculate and includes many amenities; so don't worry if you forget some of your supplies. They probably have you covered. The view from the cabin is so nice and a joy to wake up to in the morning. The stars at night were incredible; I stayed up for hours stargazing. The location is great too. It's about 15 minutes away from the grocery store and gas station, and very close to the Blue Ridge Parkway. You'll enjoy driving all around the area. Over all I'd highly recommend this cabin, but don't stay too long because I want to come back!

    Drew2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful stay and lovely cabin, exceeded our expectations with all the extras and would definitely visit again.

    Michael2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • This is a real gem of a place for a couple travelling to the Glendale Springs or the High County area of NC. Unlike most AirBnB ads, the pictures do NOT overstate the comfort of this cabin. We were greeted by our host, Madeline, who introduced us to the many amenities, including a well provisioned breakfast set up and a private outdoor shower (which we strongly recommend). She is the best AirBnB host we've every interacted with! While there is no air conditioning, there's plenty of fans and A/C is usually not needed at this altitude. My wife and I have stayed at several AirBnBs, and this was one of our best experiences. (Ok, so you've decided to book: Here's a suggestion if you have a smaller car -- like an Prius. You may want to stop, halfway down the driveway, and park in the shelter to the right. While I was able to manuever my Prius up the full driveway, it may be a challenge for others in damp conditions or if your tire tread is lacking ... this should not be a deterrent for renting, the "optional" shelter is only a few feet up the driveway.)

perfect for a couple who seek a quite room with a view located 5 mins from downtown West Jefferson! surrounded by lots of grass so perfect for pets as well. Private patio and grill to enjoy the outdoors.
  • This was our second stay in Alin’s thoughtfully appointed room. We are so grateful they are pet-friendly as we love traveling with our border collie and the fact that they allow one-night stays makes this our go-to as we look for our own little mountain retreat in Ashe County. We were lucky to spend the night when there was an amazing sunset at Mt. Jefferson and the beautiful rise of a full moon.

  • Great location and very close to W Jefferson. Very clean and beautiful room. Perfect place for our weekend stay with our dog, she did not want to stay in the room because she had plenty of space to roam.He was a very helpful host and really enjoyed our weekend away.

    Lori2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely perfect little spot to stay. The bed was extremely comfortable, everything was clean, and they even had a little first aid kit. The view overlooks West Jefferson and was magical at night. 10/10 would recommend. ☺️

    Caitlyn2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Alin’s room with a view is just as advertised! Twinkling lights from businesses along the highway at night & mountain and farm views during the day. Well appointed room with thoughtful touches such as popcorn & bottled water. Coyotes could be heard at night, which my daughter thought was cool! Thanks, Alin!

Lazy Daze Cabin is near West Jefferson, just below a state park atop Mount Jefferson. Our private cabin is in a quiet spot nestled in the woods just minutes from hiking & biking trails, golfing, canoeing, tubing, snow skiing, and more, but is a million miles away from the 9-to-5 grind.

Our cabin has all the comforts of home including pots/pans, bed and bath linens, big-screen TVs, cable, Netflix, Wi-Fi, and unlimited long distance on the phones. Pretty much everything but food, with even that just a short drive away to several restaurants and three grocery stores. *Note: To minimize spread of coronavirus, the Ashe County Board of Commissioners is temporarily banning overnight accommodations from March 26 - May 8 UNLESS you are visiting Ashe County for business, medical, construction, emergency services, or other related services. While other small towns have grown into cities or simply faded away, West Jefferson has remained the small town that is quintessential Americana. Our town is nestled within the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains of northwest North Carolina. Listed on the National Register of Historical Places, West Jefferson not only presents beautiful landscape and cool mountain breezes, but also gives visitors a sense of history as well as a mix of modern culture. Simply stroll about our town and discover what is so special about West Jefferson.
  • The cabin was spotless and well taken care of. Located just off the main highways, but deep enough in the woods where there’s no city noise. Gary was very knowledgeable of the local amenities and made sure we had everything we needed. I recommend this place to anyone wanting to travel to the Boone / Jefferson area.

    Matt2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here for a wedding at the Twikenham House this past weekend and it was perfect! Great location relative to the venue! Amazing property! The hosts are five star all the way and very accommodating! Couple notes for future guests. The coffee makers are both K cup and there is a 12 cup machine. There were lots of coffee filters at the house in the ceramic jar by the coffee machine so you can skip buying those. If you use the upstairs jacuzzi bath in the winter you will kill ALL of the hot water for about an hour. We assumed this would be the case and we proved ourselves accurate by running a bath on our last day after 2 of us had already left for early morning flights. If everyone uses the downstairs shower you will have no issues with hot water. We had 6 adults shower the morning of the wedding proving this. If you are looking at multiple places to stay in the area look no more! This is the cabin you want to rent!

  • My husband and I had planed a weekend getaway, when I unexpectedly got sick. I contacted Kelly and she was EXTREMELY helpful. She agreed to a full refund and even intervened when AirBnB didn't want to grant that. She bent over backwards to help us. Even though we didn't actually experience the space, I know that any hostess who would be that helpful and understanding will deliver above and beyond. Thanks again!

  • The Hobbit House is perfect for a romantic weekend for two, or anyone who loves the outdoors and a quiet and cozy place to stay! The Hobbit House my first tiny house experience, and now the bar is set very high. It is a perfectly functional space with everything you need, plus the ample patio area and the whole 53 acres of land open for exploration. We didn’t have phone signal for most of the weekend (which was beautiful) but in the house Kelly has an information sheet with answers to any question you might have. I can’t recommend this place enough!!

  • We had a great stay at the Hobbit House. It had everything we needed for the weekend. The electric fire heater added extra comfort after a long day of hiking at nearby state parks. Wished we had got the use of the fire pit but the weather wasn’t on our side this time. Kelly was quick to respond to questions prior and during stay. Fantastic experience. Highly recommend this place any time of the year!

  • This cabin was truly a gem. Far enough away to feel like you are on a mountain retreat but definitely close enough to grocery stores, drug stores, and downtown for things you need. The cabin was clean and had all the amenities we needed. The owner even went to the cabin and turn the heat and some lights on for us because our arrival would be late at night on a cold night. Very thoughtful! Communication was quick and check in & check out process was clear and not an issue at all. My family (5 people) and I enjoyed our mountain getaway over Thanksgiving very much!! Highly recommend. :)

The GPS will take you to the back side of the house, but you will not be able to drive that route. Other than that, the community is beautiful!!! Take his recommendations. He knows what he’s talking about!!!

  • Definitely recommend Hawks Landing Boho Cottage. Everything is exactly as described and Monica is a very responsive host. We enjoyed our 3 nights in the charming, cozy and comfortable cottage!

  • Monica’s place was inviting, warm and cozy. Perfect for our week leading up to our wedding. She checked on us and responded quick. She made sure we had no needs and if we did I’m positive they would have been met quickly. We hope to return soon!

  • We had a great time at Monica’s cottage! It was warm and welcoming and the perfect location for us. Monica was quick to help us when needed and overall a lovely host! Thanks for a great trip!!

  • We so enjoyed our stay at this wonderful cabin in the woods! The location is just secluded enough but still provides easy access to Stone Mountain State Park, Wilkesboro, Jefferson, and Boone. It makes for a great home base to come back to! The deck is a perfect place to catch the stunning sunsets and sunrises, and we had all the amenities we needed. Monica was very helpful with providing instructions for our arrival and check-in, and left tips for exploring the area. We had the chance to meet her the morning we left and enjoyed chatting with her. We will come back to this place!

Beautiful, rustic glamping site with gorgeous views! Come experience nature on our 54 acre property... cool mountain breezes, gorgeous sunsets, twinkling fireflies. Sleep peacefully to the sounds of nature in the screened in bedroom. Our glamping site includes a bedroom with full bed, stocked kitchen, open air shower (with hot water!), toilet incinerator, fire pit, and gas grill. We have 0.4 mi of Helton Creek frontage. **Before booking, please be aware of cooler nights in fall!**
Additional tent campers are welcome for a nominal fee; please contact us to confirm.
  • Book it!! This was a very unique stay. You get all the best parts of camping plus an outdoor shower and a toilet. We went in October and it got down to 33 degrees at night, which we loved with a few extra sleeping bags. However if the cold is not for you, you might want to book earlier in the season. The stars are amazing at night!

    Jill2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Breathtaking views and a warm comfy bed. Bring extra blankets for chilly nights. Everything you need is there. April responds very quickly to any questions. Amazing place to stay.

    Allison2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Has so many amenities for being a “glamping” site! There was electric, cooking stoves, running hot water, a nice bed, etc. There is complete privacy and beautiful surroundings. Would definitely like to go again.

    Lauren2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Glamping at its best! Just enough glamp and just enough camp, we had a great time. My daughter and I had a so much fun together from great food to hair masks and nail polish after a day of hiking in Grayson Highlands St Park. The view of the sunset as we ate dinner was spectacular. Then the stars. Oh the stars. We hope to come back!

    Anna2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • I was looking for a quiet, secluded, beautiful, comfortable getaway for my boyfriend and I and that exactly what I got! We arrived without a hitch thanks to an AWD CRV and detailed directions from the host, April. Four/awd definitely needed. When we got to the glamping site - wow! I could seriously, almost, live there. It has everything you need, minus your own food and drink: a full size bed, wrapped in waterproof fabric, and fresh linens. Can't attest to the towels bc we didn't use them, but they were there. Fully stocked kitchen. We came at the end of September and extra blankets were mentioned by April and needed. THE VIEWS To be able to cook a meal with that view- especially the sunsets for dinner and foggy mornings for coffee and pancakes, is incredible. Someone mentioned bringing a small tarp to cover the entrance from setting sun and I agree. You can also enjoy a hot outdoor while watching the views. So- bring some food and drink, games and puzzles, and some chairs and you are in for a weekend retreat without another soul to be seen. There's nothing to do but enjoy the company of the one you're with, along with the above, so bring the right person. We will definitely be back!

    Lauren2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • For people who love camping, and the comforts of home, this is the best of both worlds. Amazing night sky views from the campfire and from the bed! No light pollution, no noise pollution, no air pollution. Absolutely private natural setting. A lot of thought went into the amenities, every thing you will need is there. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have ever slept on, especially when "camping". Add the hot shower, enclosed toilet facilities and a sink with running water, who could ask for more. As for access, our Forester had no problem, but the climb is definitely not for a low riding vehicle. Also a small tarp to hang over the entrance way to block the afternoon sun might be worth bringing.

    Muskie2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • This place is great! Nice views, great amenities at the cabin, comfy bed. April was great and super responsive when we had a question.

    Scott2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • A nice retreat in nature. You can hear the bugs, birds, and even the rain on the roof. You have everything you need to enjoy nights out in nature but with convenient amenities.

The Upper Room is an efficiency that will comfortably accommodate 1-2 people. A trundle bed converts to a king if needed. It is fully-equipped with a mini-fridge and small stove/oven and microwave. If tiny-house living appeals, you'll love your time here. People have stayed for extended periods and been very happy and comfortable. Please note: we do provide a TV, but there is no cable or satellite. We provide an HDMI cable - so bring your laptop if you desire to watch DVD's, etc.
You will find "The Upper Room" a cozy and relaxing place to be. Close to a state park, art galleries, restaurants. Bluegrass music, hiking, canoeing and more. Couples or solo adventurers - this little hideaway will meet your needs.
  • Debra's place was super cute and cozy. After long hours of outdoor adventures, it was a pleasure to come home to such a relaxing space. We truly enjoyed our time and will definitely be back.

    Stan & Bry2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Debra’s place was clean and comfortable. She provided all the necessities an the mountains were beautiful.

    Morgan2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome stay! Loved all the tips for local places to check out! If we are back in the area, we would definitely stay again. It was very close to Grayson Highlands State Park and we managed to get in a trip down to Grandfather Mountain during our stay.

    Aleece2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • The Upper Room is super cozy and very safe and clean. I loved my stay with Debra. I had a full itinerary but still read over her local tips, which were great! The bed was very comfortable and the photos are exactly what you get when you’re there. This is a great little place to have your visit in Lansing or Ashe County in general! Great place.

    Cheyenne2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • I love the scenic location and the drive to and from work. There was not a day I did not encounter deer. This place is quiet and isolated. I love the fact that I can cook my own food. The space was small but adequate with plenty closet and drawer space. Debra and Rick are great hosts.

    Rizalyn2019-12-12T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent little place just 30 minutes from Grayson Highlands. A tiny place that feels spacious and has a nice little kitchen. We didn’t feel crammed at all.

    Justin2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Nice, quiet, and very clean private space. So much more than what we expected. Would definitely reccomend the upper room.

    Jessica2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • I loved staying at Debra’s place. The place is clean . The bed is comfortable considering that it’s just a mattress on a trundle bed frame. Honestly, I would have been ok with a single bed and have more space to move around. There’s plenty of closet and drawer space. The space is small but adequate. Debra and her husband are very hospitable and gracious host.

  • This is the cutest cabin you’ll find if you’re looking for a quiet getaway! Everything you could need is there waiting for you. Two of my girlfriends and I stayed for three nights and it was the perfect amount of time to check back in with nature and clear our minds. Space is perfect for 3-4, plenty of amenities, and my doggo had the best time! Definitely recommend if you want to escape!

    Cassie2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I stayed at Bearadise for a child free getaway. It was the perfect place to just get away from everything and be able to relax. The hot tub offers additional relaxation. We were able to spend time reconnecting with each other away from our busy lives. We also made it to West Jefferson which is a cute little town to be able just walk through with cute little shops. Thank you for a great vacation.

    Kelsey2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very relaxing couple of days with incredible views.

    Bethany2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Karen's place is a perfect cozy cabin to get away from it all. We arrive at midnight during severe storms, after 2 sleepless nights of moving to a new house. Let me tell you it was perfect getaway. You definitely need four wheel drive and if you come during a lot of rain the low water bridge may be flooded, but it was an easy detour. The cabin was nice and warm between the fireplace and the baseboard heat, we had to turn it down at some points. West Jefferson, is about 10 ot 15 minutes away and is adorable. We have gone to many different places in the mountains of both NC and TN and I have to say I think this is may favorite area. You are.close to stores, gas shopping, food, but when you get back to the cabin its peace and quiet. Would highly recommend!

    Brannon2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Karen’s place was great! Plenty of things to do 15-20 minutes away from the cabin. It was everything we expected. Thank you Karen for such a lovely stay.

    Wendy2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Karen’s home was small and cozy, with just the right amount of detail. The view from the hot tub was incredible. Although it was raining our whole trip, we had an amazing time. She’s an incredible host and I would definitely recommend staying at bearadise!

At this time - We are only welcoming longer term stays! This charming cottage was originally a Dairy House back in the early 1900's. We have converted it to a cozy 2 bedroom getaway, perfect for folks who want to "unplug" and relax! Located within walking distance to the south fork of the New River, this cottage offers privacy with easy access to the river.
The Dairy House has two small bedrooms, one with a pillowtop full size bed, the other with a twin bed. A roomy living room, rustic bathroom with shower and eat in kitchen make this a great retreat option. The Diary House has a full kitchen and WiFi.
The Dairy House is located just 1/10th of a mile from the south fork of the New River. You can walk to the public access point and fish, canoe, kayak or tube. Riverside Canoe and RiverCamp are right there to rent you what you need to float or paddle down the river.
  • The Cabins at Healing Springs are amazing! Anne is an incredible host and the cabins are spectacular. Truly a magical place!

Nestled in a high mountain meadow just above the New River, this 750 square foot cabin has plenty of amenities and nearly 20 acres for your own private Idaho...there are marked and cleared hiking trails...look for the entrance post to the left "1285"
Cozy and quiet...the New River is just over the ridge. Two full-sized (not King or Queen) beds and one twin (plus a twin pallet)
During the height of the season there are campers, tubers and canoers all along the river...everyone enjoying being outside! We are located 2.3 miles (7 minutes drive) from two canoe outfitters!!! (See below in Getting Around) And not too far from the best of Ashe County (south) or Grayson Highlands State Park in VA (north and west of us).
  • Peaceful remote getaway and everything it's advertised to be. It's best to bring all your provisions and plan on quality time with your significant other. All wheel drive preferred on long driveway. Not sure a Prius would make it especially in bad weather. Plenty of wildlife around and stars are spectacular on a clear night. Highly recommend.

  • Nice hideaway, good for a quiet retreat.

    Eric2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful property to roam and hike. The dogs loved the freedom and open spaces. The cabin is warm with basic essentials.

    Lisa2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing property and views. Little bit of a drive to get into town or to stores but the views make up for it. Definitely a nice place to go and stay if you need to get away from everything for a little and relax. A lot of exploring on the the property if you don’t want to go out for the day. My family had a blast here and would stay again.

    Brianna2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Had an outstanding time exploring the land and the wood stove at night was magical! All the dogs loved it!!! Had plenty of split up fire wood. Very cozy little cabin in the middle of nowhere. Exactly what we needed for a short family getaway before Christmas. Can’t wait to go back ASAP

    Jade2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is such a great little getaway! Bigger than expected and all the comforts of home. The little wood stove was a MIGHTY force! Kept us nice and toasty! Very nice not having to bring your own wood for indoor or outdoor fires! Great place to relax. Wild turkeys and deer all over. Scott was easy to reach when we had a question. Definitely a “do-again”! Thank you Scott.

  • Sharon's place was awesome! It was in a beautiful location, convenient to Boone yet private and lovely. My husband and I were traveling with our 2 year old son and Sharon welcomed us and helped the space be more safe by adding a baby gate for the stairs. She even provided a toy truck and Mickey and Minnie mouse for him to play with. The space itself is amazing and spacious. It had all that anyone could need. The bathroom was especially nice with the rock bottom and overall design. We had peace and quiet and slept well. We loved waking up to the beautiful trees out back. We were thankful to meet Sharon in person and she was very kind to let Thompson meet her dog and neighborhood cat Football. LoL. We hope to stay again soon and would recommend Sharon's place to others.

You have the benefit of an open view to the front, with the seclusion of the forest to the side and rear. A sliding glass window allows easy access and views on inclement days. The attached outhouse is of the composting type. Simple and intuitive to use, cedar flakes are sprinkled after each use and will ultimately mulch down to a non polluting garden resource. Wet wipes, toilet paper and hand sanitizer are provided. There is no showering facility, but wash cloths and biodegradable soap are provided if a stand up / sink wash will do. The kitchen area has a small, tiled preparation area, with a cutting board and a single burner propane stovetop. A Pur filtration jug provides drinking water via its built in spigot. I can provide local spring water for hand washing etc, and gallon jugs of Earthfare water at cost (Currently $1.10) There is no refrigerator, so bring a small cooler if you need a cold space. The small sink empties into a five gallon container, which can water the container plants (watering can provided). An outside fire bowl is provided, along with kindling and locust firewood (see pics). A small sitting space by a small boulder, is located up behind the cabin, that affords a nice outlook to the western skyline.
Situated midway between historic Todd and the village of Creston, the property faces west and gets sun from mid morning to sunset, so bring a hat and shades! The elevation is approximately 3,900 feet ASL, so mountain conditions exist and might require appropriate clothing. Todd village is four and a half miles away to the south, and features kayaking on The New River, plus cycling on Railroad Grade. Todd Mercantile has lots of interesting goods and bakes all its own bread and cakes, to add to your days out! Elk Knob State Park can easily be reached by road, and has varied hikes to suit all types. No admission fees.
  • Although I unfortunately had to leave due to an unexpected circumstance, I had a magical time while visiting. PLEASE pay attention to having a vehicle with all wheel drive. I recommend a truck or SUV or else you won’t make it up the mountain.

  • This place is amazing! Richard has added thoughtful touches. Everything you could need from a french coffee press to fire wood and fire pit are all provided. AWESOME! Heed the notice for 4 wheel drive absolutely needed, and my boyfriend loved it. Want a place off the grid but with amenities, this is the place for you!

    Kristi2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place to relax and get away from it all. Richard was a great host! The scenery is beautiful and the house is very clean. We will definitely be back.

    Stephanie2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Richard was such an amazing host! This was my first time using AirBnB and I was definitely quite skeptical if I had prepared for it properly BUT the AirBnB and host exceeded expectations that I didn’t even realize I had. I definitely plan on staying there again! the view was astonishing, the home was beautiful and so unbelievably cozy and the surrounding area was just raw nature at its finest, absolutely magical. I recommend this to anybody looking for a lovely stay.

    Ariana2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking to decompress and get away from it all this is for you! Must have 4x4 to reach the tiny home and highly suggest reading all of Richard's information.

    Nicole2019-10-06T00:00:00Z

Comfy and cozy daylight basement apartment in quality home nestled in the woods on the side of scenic Mount Jefferson. Apartment features hardwood flooring, air conditioning, king bed (in private bedroom), sleeper sofa and twin bed (in living area), washer/dryer, gas grill, full kitchen , and the privacy of mountain living. We are dog friendly with a nightly pet fee of $10/dog. We are 5 minutes from downtown West Jefferson and 30 minutes from Boone.
It is a daylight basement apartment but it is not at all what you think of when you think basement. It's dry and never ever musty. You have paved parking access at the apartment entrance. We went with a super comfy king bed as many rentals do not have that upgrade. Our sofa converts to a queen bed which is perfect for children or additional guests. We also have a twin bed for one additional guest. If you want privacy this is the unit for you. We are an adult only home with fur babies upstairs. You will have the feel of your own home on the mountain. This is the place to kick back and enjoy the privacy and beauty of mountain living. If you like to hike, you have paved road access all the way to the top of beautiful Mount Jefferson. Our home is also only 5 minutes from the grocery and from historic downtown West Jefferson. A quaint town that features a brewery, a cheese plant, a wine store, great food, frequent live music, and local shops. We don't visit you and we don't expect you to interact with us. It's your place during your stay and we want you to enjoy the privacy and beauty. We give you lock box key access to provide you with easy access. We are set up for motorcycle access with paved road access to the door of our unit.
Well we are the last home on a private property paved road. Our property actually joins Mount Jefferson State Park. You can hike up Cottontail Trail to an open field with a beautiful 270 degree view. In the spring and winter the sunsets are beautiful on the mountain.
  • It's a cool little spot with an enormously comfortable king size bed. There's an eclectic mix of furniture and decoration. Modern kitchen with microwave, dishwasher, etc. Large sliding glass doors to watch the sunset if it's bit too cool. Monica and Eric are really nice and helpful, but also don't bother you if you're needing lots of alone time. Monica also seems to have a little bit for everyone, from young to old, of things to do if you need to stay in due to rain. Oh! The tv options are plentiful also. Has a great loop around the house for ease of parking. (only you loop around, they have separate parking upstairs)

    Beverly2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cozy place conveniently located close by Mount Jefferson Natural Area. This place had everything we needed for our family of four, with full kitchen and a washer and dryer. Looking forward to staying here again.

    Victor2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful place with a beautiful view. The room was cozy and fit the 4 of us and 2 dogs perfectly. The donkeys from the neighbors farm were a funny addition to see in the road and occasionally in the driveway. Lovely views .

    Starla2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great, very comfortable accommodations with a nice view. I would definitely return again. Monica is terrific!

    Wiley2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully decorated apartment with a very comfy bed, great privacy, and very welcoming host! Even working 3rd shift, the stay was very restful.

    Shanna2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • Great hosts who know a lot about the area and the apartment is beautifully kept

    Bronte2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • This apartment was in a quiet safe neighborhood, secluded from traffic but within 5-10 minutes of groceries and shopping. It was clean and had all the utensils and necessities for cooking a meal if you’d rather grab some groceries and spend a night eating in. The hosts were accommodating and easily accessible if needed but made sure we had privacy if we wanted it. We would definitely stay here again next time. West Jefferson is a great little town and a nice change from the crowds and bustle of Boone.

  • Best place to stay in West Jefferson! Great location and VERY clean! Julie was a great host and communicated right from the start. She went above and beyond and even drove to meet me when my daughter left her retainer in the bathroom! We travel to this area often, but have never stayed in WJ. Now that we’ve had the pleasure of staying at Julie’s, I doubt we’ll stay anywhere else!

At this time - We welcome longer term stays! Stay in our cozy restored cabin with a plush queen bed, small sitting area with fireplace, en suite bathroom with a shower along with a mini-fridge, microwave and coffee pot. Drink the water from the Healing Springs and leave rested and rejuvenated!
Built in 1904, Hummingbird cabin features a plush memory foam Queen size bed and a bathroom with an antique claw foot tub (with shower conversion). Perfect for a couple, it has a fireplace with gas logs and has a kitchenette. Access to Hummingbird requires a walk up a hill (10 paces) and 3 steps to the front porch. Our budget cabins are suitable for a maximum of 2 people. If traveling with children, please give us a call or take a look at our family cabins. An interesting fact about this cabin - the coat rack is made with part of the crates that were used to carry the bottles of water from the Healing Spring in between 1889 and 1898.
Healing Springs is a special place. Discovered in 1884 and originally called Thompson's Bromine and Arsenic Springs. The property was then known as Healing Springs Resort in later years, and is now simply called The Cabins at Healing Springs. The natural spring is purported to have mystical healing abilities and rumored to have cured everything from poison ivy to rheumatism, indigestion to ulcers. Today, our cabins are all equipped with a water pitcher so you can enjoy the fresh spring water in your cabin any time during your stay.

  • We had a great long weekend at this amazing cabin. The hot tub was perfect for soaking on the chilly nights after we spent the day hiking and visiting wineries recommended by the exceptionally helpful cabin tips book. We will definitely be looking to rent again!

  • The description does not do this place justice. You feel very secluded but aren’t too far from things. The view is beautiful and there are so many nice places outside to sit and enjoy it. The hosts were wonderful, we managed to lock ourselves out on our first day and we couldn’t have asked for a faster or more friendly response.

  • This is an experience that far exceeds the five stars allowed in the airbnb site format. From the warm welcome and friendship and care from hosts Thomas and Joanna (and their lovely dogs), the comfortable room and bed, superbly appointed bathroom, impressive welcoming and comfortable living space, and the delicious, generous breakfast, this is an utter gem, a superb value and a must try for anyone coming to the West Jefferson area.

    Craig2018-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • Tom and Joanna were extremely personable hosts. This place is in a lovely area of the mountains in northern NC. We needed a bit of help finding the house because it was off the road, but Tom responded to our request and guided us there. They greeted us and helped us carry some of our things inside. Their home, which was partly designed and built by Tom and decorated with antiques by Joanna, was delightful, yet comfortable. We had a small refrigerator in our room but greatly appreciated being able to also use their kitchen. We had good WiFi and several channels on the TV in our room. An added plus: Tom insisted on fixing us a delicious breakfast of eggs, bacon, fresh fruit, homemade jelly, and cocoa or coffee the next morning – even though that is not advertised as part of an Airbnb. We thoroughly enjoyed visiting with and getting to know both of them.

    Marvin2018-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Thomas and his wife were welcoming and shared tips for exploring the area. Breakfast was great (with a vegetarian option), too!

    Mozhgon2018-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Thomas, his wife, and their fur babies were absolutely wonderful. Their home was charming, welcoming, and I would absolutely recommend this spot for anyone looking for a mountain escape. It is about 25-30 minutes from Boone with a picturesque drive between the house and city. And to top it all off, Thomas cooked a delicious breakfast for us. If I could give more than 5 stars, I wouldn't hesitate to do so.

    Keith2018-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • This place was a great lil place to stay. Both Thomas and Joanna were very welcoming and super accommodating. The room and bath was exactly as expected in the picture. There house was great to look at with so many unique touches. Great stay all around!

    Cassidy2018-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • No doubt, this has got to be the most comfortable place in the area! Perfect location, great for a getaway and outstanding hosts! They were very friendly and really helpful during the booking process and all throughout our stay. They are truly lovely people and I will definitely be back during the fall. The place is quite classy and I found everything to my liking. Tom cooks a GREAT breakfast, flexible to your tastes, and both Tom and Joanna are very cool pet people. I loved having my puppy, Coco, interact with their pets — she absolutely loves our two hosts!! The property is open and flexible, and the rooms, house and outdoors are kept clean and immaculate! Surrounding activities and amenities are varied and interesting and within short drive. Suggest you use GPS to get around. I used google maps and I found it simple to get around and had a great time exploring each day for hours. I highly recommend Tom and Joanna, definitely super hosts with a fantastic property!! Great value! Enjoy!!

  • Tom and Joanna were PERFECT hosts! we loved their yard for our puppy and the awesome decor of their home. They are very sweet people who fed us, gave us tips about the area, and catered to every need! We will be back!

  • Thomas and Joanne are amazing hosts ! Their property is amazing, in a beautiful area up in the mountain. We had a lot of fun staying at this Airbnb, we had nice conversations with Thomas and Joanne, played with the pets and enjoyed the scenery. In the morning Thomas cooked one of the most fluffiest homemade eggs I’ve ever had ! Very recommended.

Located in beautiful, historic downtown West Jefferson, UpTown Loft is a great place to stay and see the NC mountains without roughing it. This two bedroom two bath loft has a large master suite and two queen beds. There is a fully-equipped kitchen for those who love to cook. We are one to two blocks from restaurants, bars, bakeries, coffee shops, cafes, galleries, shops, parks, the farmers market, and a first-run movie theater.
My wife and I bought this historic 1937 building in 2004 and fully renovated the upstairs apartment ourselves. We converted the existing lighting store into a two bedroom, two bathroom loft apartment. It has the original chestnut floors, exposed brick walls and high ceilings. We installed two natural gas heating stoves for efficiency and ambiance. We made a huge bathroom on the master suite with a claw-foot tub and a view of Mt Jefferson out the back window. There is a modern, fully-equipped kitchen for those who love to cook. My family lived here from 2004 until 2014 when we ran out of room when our second child was born.
We are one to two blocks from restaurants, bars, bakeries, coffee shops, cafes, galleries, shops, parks, the library, the farmers market, and a first-run movie theater. The butcher shop directly below the loft has local and organic meats, produce, and many other grocery items. NC's only cheese plant is in the downtown of West Jefferson. You can visit the plant, buy dairy items and see them make the cheese. There are many seasonal activities in town. In the summer, fall, and early winter, there are gallery crawls throughout the town. There is free live music in the park during the summer. The town hosts the annual Christmas in July Festival, antiques festivals and antique car shows. Some of the downtown restaurants have live music and outdoor seating. We are close to the New River and all of the fun river activities: kayaking, canoeing, tubing, fishing and exploring. Ashe county is THE best place to come and get your Christmas tree. There are many choose-and-cut farms nearby. On the Friday after Thanksgiving, we have the lighting of the town Christmas tree, visits with Santa and rides on the antique fire truck! The winter months, we are about 45 minutes from Appalachian Ski Mtn and Hawk's Nest Snow-tubing. We are about an hour away from Beech Mountain and Sugar Mountain Ski resorts.
  • Great place with great hosts. Highly recommend.
