Places to stay in False Pass

Places to stay in False Pass
Cozy home right on the beach: this upstairs room faces south and has comfy king size pillowtop bed, dresser space, and its own little attached half-bathroom. Comfortably fits 2 on the main bed and can put in one more on a single sized bed if need be.
Are you looking for a place you can get away from it all, experience Alaska, the Bush AND island living? Come to an Aleutian island! We are located in the remote town of False Pass, Alaska, on Unimak Island, the easternmost island in the Aleutian chain. The Alaska peninsula is just across the sea from us. Air service to the island is provided by Grant Air. Peninsula Airways (PenAir for short) flies from the city of Anchorage, AK, to Cold Bay, AK, then Grant flies a 5-seat airplane for a 20 minute ride over the tundra (look for bears and caribou!) and across the pass to the island. Our house is right on the water, a quick walk (about a quarter mile) from the harbor. Amenities are, like our town, simple but will warm you up. :) I set out breakfast things - coffee, tea, cereal, milk, oatmeal packets, etc - but will feed you something more hearty if you ask! I love a good cup of coffee and always have it on hand, as well as several kinds of tea (green, black, and herbal choices). I also usually have fresh eggs thanks to the happy hens in the backyard chicken coop. You are welcome to cook in my kitchen, as well! If you call me before your flight in from Cold Bay, I can easily meet you at the airstrip when you come in on the airplane, as it is a good 20-25 minute walk from the airstrip all the way to the house. I can also meet you at the dock if you come in via the semi-weekly state ferry, the M/V Tustamena, which you can ride starting all the way from Homer, Alaska, along the Aleutian chain to all the way out to Dutch Harbor. (Check the Alaska . gov website for specific schedule information.)
The view! The view everywhere from the house is unparalleled. Our house sits directly at the shore, and tide pools, driftwood, pretty rocks, fresh salty sea air, all within your reach--the sea is about 25 - 30 yards from the front porch! =D Bring layers, and especially a good windbreaker and rain/mud boots! They're a must for the wind and rainy days and especially if you like exploring. It is a beautiful place and you really must see it! You will definitely come away with a good grasp of the local daily life on an Aleutian island.

  • Betty is a phenomenally beautiful host with an very tidy, warm, clean, and brightly lit home with a lovely view of the water and the land beyond. Its a paradise in the remote wilderness. I never expected to find such a place in False Pass! We hope to return one day in the future, and spend more rest filled, and quiet days in her happy home.

  • Betty is AMAZING! Even 600+ miles away in Anchorage, Betty made sure we were taken care of really well! Thank you for everything Betty. Your hospitality from afar made the stay so much better:)

  • I highly recommend staying with Betty and her family if you are visiting the False Pass area. They were the most supportive group of people that I have encountered throughout in the Aleutian chain. It was an absolute pleasure staying there for my visit.

  • If you need a place to stay in False Pass, do not hesitate to stay with Betty. The house was very clean and comfortable, the food was good, and our hosts were extremely helpful. It made our fieldwork much easier than it might have been.

  • Betty is wonderful and by far the BEST place to stay in False Pass when visiting. She makes you feel at home. I use her B&B for company representatives visiting the island and only use her because I know they will get treated well and she makes their visits exceptional. Reservations are easy, location is perfect and our guests always comment how welcomed they were and how peaceful and relaxed they are. Thank you Betty!!!

This listing is specifically for the traveler who just wants a warm couch to sleep on and coffee in the morning. The couch is right in the living room and everyone in the house goes through it...but it's safe, warm, and has a magnificent view.

This listing is for a twin sized bed in the library area upstairs. The room is open floorplan and is situated at the top of the stairs between North and South rooms. What it lacks in privacy it makes up for with the best ocean view in the house!!
