  • Cute little cottage in a tiny town. Walkable you’re a diner, coffee shop, and a general store. Close to the John Day Park sites. Very peaceful location if you’re looking to get away from the city.

  • Loved David’s stylish space! The theme was well displayed throughout and was very comfy. We enjoyed the space so much and felt at home. David is very nice and the location is perfect to crash after checking out the John Day Fossil Beds!

  • David is very quick to respond and the little house is portrayed very accurately in the photos.

  • Such a lovely, comfortable space. Very simple check in and out process and appreciated how well kept the grounds were. Wonderful spot to rest your head when adventuring around the painted hills and fossil beds.

  • Great location near Fossil Beds NM. Comfortable place for two adults and our 10-year old son. Loved having a cafe *and* an espresso/deli within walking distance.

  • This was such a cute little cottage! David was so helpful and very welcoming. We loved the space and the location was great. We were able to wake up and walk right across the lawn for breakfast and coffee (coffee was in the cottage but we grabbed more after, long road trip!). My map was having a hard time finding the place because of cell service but David stayed up and helped us a lot. He was very kind and gave us tips and the privacy was great! We would definitely stay here again.

  • Pretty outdoor grounds and very cute, clean little duplex. Nice touches with decor, and beds were comfy. Check in and out we’re super easy.

NOTE: All wheel or four wheel drive drive recommended! This glamping tent is in a private and remote part of our property. Guests will enjoy the wood stove in colder weather and the large deck on warm evenings. In the heart of our property with access to garden, trails and epic view points.
12 by 16 wall tent with red fir floor and deck. Deluxe queen memory foam mattress; composting toilet, 15 gallon water tank, and wood stove with wood. Wood fired hot tub / cold tub. Cooking amenities include a pot, pan, and utensils. Propane for stove is included. Herb garden, stove for cooking. Out door camp fire area. We provide two single mattresses and bedding if more than two in the party.
One mile from Dayville 10 minutes to paleo center.
  • This rental is a floorless tent with an unscreened door on a wood platform in the desert. It was luxury camping. I’d definitely come here again. The main thing I’m glad I brought was a light axe. Kerri had a splitting maul for wood, but it was a bit heavier than I needed and too dull to bite into the smaller wood, as they’d already split the rounds.

    Aaron2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! What a fantastic place. If you’re looking for something in the beautiful country side, slightly off the beaten path, then this is for you! Extremely cozy bed and a wood stove to keep you comfortable all night. We were happy to find cooking utensils and a propane stove outside. Unfortunately we didn’t get to use the bathtub but what a fun idea! Great spot for the traveling photographer. Just wait for that sunrise/sunset. So amazing you’ll never want to leave.

    Austin2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay! Everything you could ask for in a nice tent camp out! Nice wood stove inside, and fire pit outside.

    Erin2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent space, great location, terrific value, and Kerri was an exemplary hostess.

    Kim2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • We booked a stay in the Haiku Hollow for one night, but since it was raining when we arrived, Kerri offered us to stay in the cabin instead. She let us look at both places and we ended up staying in the cabin, as it was more convenient with an indoor kitchen in the rain. But the Haiku Hollow is absolutely adorable and we would love to come back and stay in there. Overall the property is stunning and Kerri is absolutely amazing, we had a great time!

    Mia2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome little getaway, beautiful landscape, & great hosts. A must for any adventure seekers!

    JaiCie2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Our family of five (two adults and three small kids) were snug as bugs in a rug out here on Kerri’s beautiful property in her awesome glamping wall tent. The bed was one of the comfiest I’ve slept in, and there was access to propane stoves for cooking, a fire pit, that legendary claw foot bath tub (be careful as the floor and sides can get hot!), and insane views. You couldn’t hear a sound and the peace of the Eastern Oregon wilderness was all around us. One thing I will note is that this is a very rustic Airbnb—no toilet or even pit toilet, it’s a rudimentary set up involving saw dust and a giant bucket—so just be prepared to use some of your outdoorsman/woman skills and enjoy the simplicity! Everything is provided but if you have a camp lantern or strong flashlights I’d bring them along.

Adorable rustic cabin, built in early 1900s, in the small country town of Dayville. Close to gas, groceries, and great food. The national fossil beds are are just 10 minutes away. John Day river is just a short walk away. Hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, or just relaxing are to be found here.
It's very small and cozy, less than 400 square feet. The bed is a queen size. Its is designed so you can heat up food you've brought already cooked but not designed to cook a full meal. There is a small coffee pot attached to a toaster oven with a grill on top. A microwave and small gas table top barbecue are also available. Its charm is its simplicity and a step back into the past. The RV places on the property are unavailable for use at this time. We will be working to place them on Airbnb but they will be separate from the cabin in cost.
It's a small interactive community in a beautiful rural setting.
  • Great little space close to sightseeing. Tiny space but that was expected. Cozy bed and great wifi and nice to have smart tv. Thanks

  • Very nice studio apt in Dayville. Very close to the best of the John Day area.

  • Cindy's place is delightful! Perfect place to stay in Dayville.

    Lani2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • This house is cute, unique, easy to find, and centrally located in town. We had everything we needed to travel light with 2 people and 2 dogs. Cindy was very responsive and had great tips about Dayville. My trip was very nice!

    Ann2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Cindy's tiny house is very well designed and, although small, it provided everything a couple of people would need for a great overnight experience.

    Michael2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • This is a small, rustic cabin in a small town. We weren't looking for a lot of amenities, just a bed, bathroom and a pet friendly place to start each day of our adventures. It completely suited our needs and we were quite comfortable. It was small, smaller than a usual motel room (think tiny house as the name suggests). With our large dogs it got crowded as they were underfoot, but sleeping two adults was manageable once everyone was situated. It was stocked with basic supplies in terms of utensils and kitchen items, coffee maker, and we planned ahead and had our meals either prepped or only those simple to make. The cabin is just a short drive of 10 miles to portions of the Painted Hills (in Eastern Oregon, 10 miles is a short drive to anything), 40 min to fishing on the John Day River (a fork of the John Day runs through town but was too low for fishing on our visit), and "close" to Mitchell where you can find a local brewery. Upon our arrival were were greeted by Cindy (our host) who recommended the local diner. The food was good and was hot, and the marionberry pie was as good as the claims the locals made. Of note, they don'tserve beer on site, which can matter on vacation. We had a lovely time and would stay again in the tiny house.

    Ingrid2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • We were really impressed by how cleverly every amenity we could want was neatly tucked into this cute tiny house, which is perched on a handsome stone foundation (must be an interesting story behind what this structure once was). And there was still room for suitcases. We loved the roomy outside porch, which, weather permitting, is like an additional room.

The studio has a queen bed, a recliner, a dresser, flat screen TV for viewing Netlix or streaming, a full kitchen, a small tiled bathroom with shower, a small covered porch and Wi-fi. The unit is clean, quiet, peaceful and 8 miles from the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument Visitor Center and 30 miles from John Day Oregon. Maximum 2 people. Pet considered with deposit.
There are 3 separate units behind the DAYVILLE Post Office. A large 2/3 bedroom, a 1 bedroom and a studio. The studio is farthest from Hwy 26. reception. Verizon is currently the only cell service provider. There is Wi-Fi, flat screen TV, DVD player and HDMI cord but NO television
Dayville is a quiet little town time left behind. There is school for grades K-12, mini market with gas, mercantile with alcohol and groceries, cafe with pies and generous servings (closed Sunday 3:00 pm-Wednesday 7:00 am) and Growler Fill Station with ice cream and simply breakfasts and lunches.
  • Clean and quiet location with easy access to restaurants.

    Jo2019-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great little unit behind the Dayville post office! The kitchen may come in handy if you're around on a long weekend like we were--the cafe across the street closed on Sunday afternoon and we were happy to cook our own dinner after a hike in the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness. Nice location if you want to visit the fossil beds, and save some energy for stargazing after dark (see the Milky Way from the parking lot behind the unit, or drive a few minutes to somewhere like the Mascall Overlook and get even better skies)!

    Monica2018-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • I thoroughly enjoyed this little oasis. While it's small and not fancy, it fits right into the spirit of the area. It is very private and Christy keeps her airbnb sparkling clean. If you get the chance, ask her about the history of the place. Dayville is a quiet friendly town and If you like exploring, there are a few side roads in the area leading to scenic out-of-the-way places you don't read about in travel brochures. That includes Phillip W. Schneider Wildlife Area where I saw all kinds of critters. I hope to come back.

    Don And Karen2017-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Christy was a great communicator. Check-in was smooth, and the location was great. We would stay again without hesitation.

    Shivon2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Christy was a fabulous host for the comfortable studio behind the rustic post office in Dayville. She was attentive and quick to respond. Nice touches, functional kitchen and a great shower. We hope to return some day.

  • This is an awesome place - right down the road from the "Sheep Rock" unit of the John Day Fossil Beds Monument. The room included a recliner and a desk with chair along with an entertainment center with plenty of room. All over the place were drawers and shelves for extra storage. The Kitchen and bathroom were off of the main room and included a nice fridge/freezer and a regular sized stove, as well as shelves and extra space around to put your things. The Shower was nice and clean. The bed was queen sized, medium in softness and very comfortable to us. There was a little deck with a chair and bench on it for hanging around outside. Inside and out, we enjoyed COMPLETE quiet during our whole stay. Linens and towels were included and we were offered clean ones during the week. The place was overall cute and clean, and peaceful. The locals were friendly and the price was extremely economical. I would and will recommend this place to people I know. - Mike and Jenn

NOTE: All wheel or four wheel drive recommended! This cabin is in an accessible, yet removed parcel of our property, just 1 mile from the town of Dayville, Oregon. The cabin is an enclosed RV that has had an additional living spaced added to the front. Cooking amenities, solar and generator, but pit toilet out side. Guests can use outside spring water and seasonal solar shower. Great views and solitude, close to the John Day Fossil beds Sheep Rock unit, and the South Fork of the John Day River.
We call our space the artist cowboy cabin. The previous owners were both, and many of their belongings still remain. We admire and respect them, so we keep the character of the cabin as they had it. As such it is a look into their lives to stay here. Art books and supplies still occupy some of the space, and there are some pretty sweet VHS videos and cassettes for your enjoyment. We stay in the cabin at least once a month for our own staycation, and to make sure all is well. We try to offer what we hope to find in an Airbnb; reasonably priced, no extra fees, and pet and kid friendly. We ask only that you tidy up a tiny bit before you go. Our property has amazing views. In the summer guests enjoy sitting on the lawn with the sprinklers to keep cool and looking out over the valley. Great private swimming spots are 5 minuets up the South Fork. We have a fire pit right in the front yard, and wonderful opportunities to view the night sky with little to no light pollution.
The cabin is 2 minutes from town which has a cafe, coffee shop, gift shopping, and historic mercantile.

  • What a magical getaway! We loved the beautiful views (especially from the teepee), the animals (dogs, horses, geese) , the nature (deer and turkeys everywhere), the amazing stars, and the proximity to all the awesome sites (John day, Painted hills, rivers). Hard to find anything lacking.... maybe the kitchen?

    Cody2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • This place is at a perfect location near the Fossil Beds if you choose to check it out over there. We loved the off-the-grid experience and all the animals hanging around the cabin. It was nice to take a break from reality and have a peaceful weekend enjoying the outdoors. Kerri was so sweet and willing to help with any concerns we would have or tips of what to do around here. I would recommend this place to anyone!

    Kaylie2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Kerri and her husband were really friendly, warm, and laid back. The property was quiet and beautiful. The tent was so cute and cozy. We would definitely return!

    Meg2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second time here and it holds a special place in our hearts. This is an incredible place. We would recommend it to families, people with dogs, couples. Literally anyone. It’s comfortable camping with incredible views with amazing hosts. Every morning we woke up to horses and bathing ducks. And every night we built a fire and watched the stars. Incredible.

    Gina2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • This place rocks!! Don't expect your average Airbnb as it isn't that. It is in a cute little (emphasis on little) hamlet in Eastern Oregon with a distinct away from it all feel. The driveway is quite long and steep towards the bottom. (A 4 wheel drive/AWD makes it easier but we got up the drive using speed in a Nissan Altima.) The cabin consists of a caravan/RV unit with an extra bedroom/living room built on. It is charming and a bit rustic. Horses, ducks and a chicken nearby add color to what is a simply gorgeous view of the surrounding hills. The outhouse is well constructed and just fine although the bathtub shower in the field takes a bit of getting used to if you are a "towny" like we are. Kerrie and Jim are a delight and the accommodation is great value for money for an off the grid experience. Thank you and enjoy!

    Karleen & Jonathan2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • This is a unique opportunity to stay on a small ranch and have the beautiful wide open spaces of Eastern Oregon all to yourself. Well, .......you do have to share with the horses and ducks.

    Ray2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • This property is amazing! Living off-grid for a few days is a needed reality check for us city-dwellers, and the views, the stars, and the peaceful surroundings are absolute treasures. The hosts were laid-back, friendly, and helpful with pointing us toward activities and even shared their secret swimming hole. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend!

The house is located on a main street through a very small cow town. It is an older double wide, three bedroom, with two full bathrooms, that has been partly remodeled. Its clean, comfortable and has great beds in the bedrooms. I'm unsure of the hide a bed as I haven't slept on it. The community is very warm and friendly. The Mercantile is our version of Fred Meyer. The Dayville Cafe is fantastic for good old fashioned cooking. Twisted Treasures on the East end of town has wonderful breakfast sandwiches and espresso drinks. Linda also has a growler station for your favorite brew. The Dayville park is a great place for little ones to play, and there is river access close by. Everything is an easy walk away. For those interested in hiking we have the Fossil Beds to explore. Hunting, fishing, swimming, kayaking, and bicycling are all things to enjoy here.
It is a very friendly community! You will know the locals as they wave and speak even though they dont know you.
  • Clean, comfortable, homey little cottage. Everything you need and more. Thanks Cindy

  • Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Cindy's house was clean and cozy. Even though there are some unfinished areas (as the description clearly stated), they were all cosmetic and did not affect the comfort of the house at all. All the basic amenities such as beds, living room, and kitchen were all great. It's located in the middle of the town, a few steps from the coffee shop and diner. The house was a great value and we would stay again next time we are in the area. Thanks Cindy!

  • The home was as described. Very comfortable, plenty of room for us, well-stocked kitchen, and a great "home base" for exploring the John Day Fossil Beds and Kam Wah Chung Heritage Site. We found the town of Dayville to be very hospitable. Sadly we never made it to the cafe, but Twisted Treasures & the Mercantile were visited multiple times and never disappointed! We would gladly visit again in the future!

    Jennifer2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean cute space! Fast wifi, would definitely stay again

    Katie2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Dayville is a charming little town. Cindy’s house is within walking distance to everything, and has a large front yard with a super cute front porch. There are many charming decorative touches (the bar stools and bottle opener), and the AC on a hot day was much appreciated by my family. We played games, read on the porch and enjoyed having amenities like a large TV, and a washer and dryer. Thanks for a great stay!

    Nicole2019-08-21T00:00:00Z

Wake Up to Wedding Cake! Stellar Cabin can be your private hideaway. The richness and stunning beauty of our region, with the John Day Fossil Beds, world class fishing, rafting, and cycling make this a fun destination. Or just come and get away for a minute! To sleep four add the Bear Hug! This winter we turned the old saloon into a cozy cook shack where guests can cook and do dishes and hang out!
You have the space all to yourselves...it's quiet and peaceful and not visible from the road or from our house. We respect your privacy and are also here to answer question and make your stay perfect!
  • Jody's gem! the perfect lil spot to be.

    Tobias2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • The Stellar Cabin is a truly magical place to spend a few days to recharge and reconnect with loved ones. Jody is an incredibly gracious host who goes out of her way to make you feel welcome as you explore Eastern Oregon. She left us muffins and bread that were both phenomenal. We wanted for nothing whilst we were with her. The cabin itself is well acquainted and the perfect setting for a few days in nature. The bed is comfortable and the view of Wedding Cake rock is wonderful to wake up to. It has both heating and air conditioning which makes it perfect for almost any season. Do make time to enjoy the wood fired hot tub. It's lovely to sit out under the stars and bathe in the warmth. All in all, this was one of the best vacations we've taken and we fully intend on going back, soon!

    Arna2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • As before, everything was perfect. I can’t say enough good things about these cabins. Even my teenage daughter loved it.

    Angela2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • I can’t say enough about this place. Jody was a dream host and can’t stop suggesting a stay to our friends... looking forward to our next trip out there.

    Jorie2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • If you want to disconnect and get reconnected with nature , your family, friends this is the place to be. Falling asleep under the stars with a view of Wedding Cake Mountain right outside your window is spectacular. The fresh bake muffins or bread warm the soul. . Even our dog discovered her now favorite dog biscuits left by our host.

    Melissa2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Jody is an wonderful host. She went out of her way to welcome us and gifted us with some lovely muffins, eggs and bread and even some fresh tomatoes! The cabins are rustic but well kept with personal touches. I would kind of call this a “glamping” experience since the cabins are separated and you move from one to the other. There is a BBQ grill on the lovely stone patio and full stove in the cook shack. The wood fired hot tub was really a unique experience. We loved soaking in the tub at night and watching the wild turkeys line up one by one to fly up into the trees to roost! Not to mention just taking in the wonderful scenery. Waking up to the views of wedding cake rock was simply spectacular. Stars were limited due to the weather but were beautiful the clear night we had. This is a great place for an adventure and we hope to return again!

    Pauline2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Wanting to get away from it all and sleep under the stars? Wanna wake up to deer in the yard and wild turkeys meandering through the grounds? Wanna disconnect from the outside and reconnect with your family again or a friend? A great place to bring the kids, build a campfire, and roast marshmallows. A place to take time to read that book you have been wanting to read. Maybe, you just want to sit with friends and play a game of cards? This is the place to rest and take in the beautiful view of Wedding Cake Mountain.

    Melissa2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was our 2nd time staying at Stellar Cabin, and once again we had a great, relaxing time! This time we brought our son, who brought his telescope so we could take full advantage of the amazing night sky. Jody's place is the perfect home base for exploring the John Day National Monument!

The Little Pine Lodge is a Pet-Friendly hidden treasure nestled in a breezy canyon on Bridge Creek. It offers 1650 square feet of absolute charm with 3 bedrooms and 1 full bath right on Main Street in downtown Mitchell. The Lodge is within walking distance to the 140 year old Wheeler County Trading Company, Tiger Town Brewery, Painted Hills Pastries and Judy's Place. It is only 9 miles from the The Painted Hills Unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument!
History: The Little Pine Lodge building was built around 1885. John W. Waterman, born on April 10, 1845 in Missouri, came to eastern Oregon with cattle and interest in the mercantile business in 1864. In 1895, he turned his business interests over to his sons. Having excellent success, his sons moved the business to Mitchell. Mr. Waterman retired in 1993 and move to The Dalles. Mr. Waterman's son, Hanley A. Waterman and his wife, Anna owned and operated H. A. Waterman & Co. General Mercantile in the building now known as the Little Pine Cafe & Lodge. In 1914, they sold the building to Mitchell Lodge No. 141 I. O. O. F. (Independent Order of Odd Fellows) of Mitchell for the sum of $1.00 with the condition as such that there should be no alcohol sold or made to be sold on said premises or the deed would become void and revert back to the seller. The Odd Fellows and the Rebekahs would hold their meetings in the Lodge. The Little Pine Cafe & Lodge has had several owners since then. Each owner has implemented changes and upgrades to the building while still maintaining her majesty and charm. Today, the Lodge boasts original hardwood floors and beautiful structure walls of horizontal tongue and groove pine planks. The Lodge is a spacious, cozy and rustic 3 bedroom lodge spanning the entire second floor of the Little Pine Cafe building on Main Street in the heart of Mitchell. It has 3 bedrooms and 1 large Full Bath with a shower - no bathtub. There is a kitchenette with a sink, refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffeemaker, and electric tea kettle. The kitchen is fully furnished with dishes, utensils, pots, pans, glassware and coffee mugs. The Lodge has a cozy living area with a big screen TV that offers a variety of channels via Dish Network. Cell phone service in our area is limited, at best, but WiFi is available! The Painted Hills Unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument (one of the Seven Wonders of Oregon) is only 9 miles from the Little Pine Lodge and the Ochoco National Forest is 15 miles away. Do you believe in ghosts? Mitchell's Ghost Patsy is the little girl "ghost" that wanders around town supposedly looking for her Daddy. She is totally harmless, but she likes to play! She frequents the Little Pine Lodge, the Oregon Hotel and the Wheeler County Trading Co. She has also been "seen" in the Mitchell City Park which is where her house was located. Her house was washed away in the 1956 Flood. When she was alive, Patsy lived here in Mitchell with her Mom, Dad and 2 younger brothers. Their house was situated on Bridge Creek just across the street from the Little Pine Cafe & Lodge building. The approximate location of the house was in the Northwest corner of the current Mitchell City Park. She was born on October 11, 1947 and died on September 15, 1950. She was almost 3 years old. The story of her death is quite tragic. During a period of about 20 months, Patsy's mother, Louise Carr, killed all three of her children. The first death occurred on January 15, 1949. Louise threw the infant, Donald, who was only about 2 months old at the time, on the floor after feeding him. She then placed the infant in his crib and later told her brother-in-law Joe Carr that it was an accident. About a year later on June 27, 1950, Louise smothered 3 month old Gary in his crib. Then on September 15th of the same year, Louise smothered Patsy. Some people say that Louise was "jealous" of the attention that the children received from their father George. Patsy would wander around town with her father quite often - maybe because she was "Daddy's little girl" and the oldest of the three children. No one suspected anything about the deaths of the two boys when they died. But when Patsy died on September 15th, suspicion prompted the Sheriff's Department to begin an investigation. On September 27, 1950, Louise admitted to killing all three of her children. The only reason she could give was to say that at times she didn't like them very much. Patsy and her 2 brothers are all buried at Juniper Haven Cemetery in Prineville, Oregon which is only 47 miles from Mitchell. It is believed by some that Patsy still wanders around Mitchell today, looking for her Daddy. The Little Pine Lodge is a great retreat if you are planning to visit Mitchell, Oregon. Not only is it the perfect central location for all of your adventures, but it has quite the history! You may even receive a visit from Mitchell's ghost!
Be sure to visit the Tiger Town Brewing Co. for a fabulous night on the town! It's just a short walk down the sidewalk from The Little Pine Lodge. The historic Wheeler County Trading Co. is right next door!
  • A fantastic place to stay for a Painted Hills trip! It was very easy to get to all three units from Mitchell. The Lodge was spacious with a rustic cozy feel and we felt right at home. We loved the wood burning stove and all the games!

  • Amazing place next to amazing outdoor activities and Mitchell seems to be a growing spot nestled very close to the painted hills. This Lodge would be totally worth brining some of your friends or a few couples down to explore beautiful eastern Oregon and get away for a while.

  • Around 25 minutes from the Painted Hills and completely worth staying there if you are traveling to see the hills. The place was a nice size and had many space heaters to keep you toasty. We went to the brewery down the street (BEST WINGS EVER) and out to the state park to see the constellations. Such a fun getaway trip. Dajuana was very helpful and so sweet.

  • This was a wonderful place to stay that we hope to visit again. The communication with the host was outstanding. We did not have any difficulty in getting to the house, our car GPS took us right there. Still, we felt very confident of our route because of the wonderful instructions. The place was spacious, comfortable, clean, well equipped, and had amazing views. It was cold the night we stayed, but we still enjoyed a few hikes around the area. Stunning views. The apartment was warm and cozy. The beds were comfortable and we all slept great. In the morning, the sunrise was amazing to watch right from the apartment windows. We loved the stay here and highly recommend it. We had a blast exploring the area (Painted Hills was only 30 mins away!). Places/experiences like this is why I love Airbnb!

  • Bonnie and Steve warmly welcomed us to their amazing custom built home. It was truly a comfortable 4-day stay we would gladly repeat. We had the unexpected pleasure of getting to know Bonnie and Steve a bit, and were fascinated by their adventures living on a mountain. A truly enjoyable stay!

  • Very good !!!!!!!! First of all, the house was really pretty. There is a space to light up right in front, the bedroom is clean, and the toilet can be used as a private space! I was told to use the kitchen comfortably, so I was able to grill meat and have a really good time. Above all, the hosts Lesile and Bob made me comfortable during my stay :) This is the place I want to go again! I hope many Koreans go haha

  • If you are looking for an remote location with a great view and much needed fresh air this is the place for you.

    Johnny2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I stayed with Leslie and Bob for two nights, and had such an incredible time! They have such a peaceful and beautiful place, in an incredible location- so close to painted hills! They provided helpful tips about where to eat and adventure, and really went above and beyond by starting up the fire pit and putting blankets out when they saw us coming home on a particularly cold night so that we could enjoy the stars. Thank you again Leslie and Bob! We will definitely recommend this place to friends and family.

    Liz2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay at Leslie and Bob’s! Particularly loved meeting Cat the cat - the sweetest, friendliest delight. Bed was super comfy and close to Painted Hills. Had to make some business phone calls/emails, and wi-fi was a bit spotty to keep the calls going, but given the location, I imagine this is totally normal and otherwise wouldn’t have been a big deal to me. Friendly couple and I enjoyed speaking with them! :) Would stay again!

    Mango2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Really nice place, very aptly situated for visiting Painted Hills. Leslie and Bob are amazing hosts. We got clear instructions on how to find the place and no problem doing so despite the remote location. The house itself is in a really beautiful location. We enjoyed our our stay here and would love to stay here again if we ever go back.

    Sabir2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a magical spot! We came during the winter and making it to Leslie and Bob’s home was such cozy relief. The road to the home is a scenic gravel road about 4 miles off the main drag. If you arrive at night keep an eye out for the cattle sleeping under the trees. They’re sweet. Will pay you no mind as you drive past. The apartment-like space where we slept was cozy and spacious and private. Snacks, breakfast foods, fresh towels, and brochures of local attractions were all provided. We woke up with an amazing view of the Painted Hills and mountains to the north. Bob and Leslie were quick to communicate and even met us in town to make sure we got to the home safely. The way the space was set up, we felt private enough that we weren’t too close to their main section of the home. This is an experience I would never have normally had. It was a really unique spot and a beautiful home. Highly recommend!

    Jessica2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The place was lovely and they were kind and generous hosts. Be aware that the house is at the end of a 5-mile gravel/dirt road and plan your food and timing accordingly. It’s beautiful, but remote.

    Michelle2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • This place is wonderful. It's a bit out of the way, but worth it. Easy access to the Painted Hills Unit of the John Day Fossil Beds, and a great pub (best burger I've eaten in years) in Mitchell. The hosts, Bob and Leslie, were extraordinarily friendly and helpful.

  • Wow, what a refreshing trip, this is a lovely, clean, family friendly and pet friendly space. This is a great space for families as there are two separate bedrooms in addition to a whole private apartment downstairs. This space is also great for professionals who work remotely as the wifi signal was great and there was also an ethernet connection. The host Christy was very accommodating. The space is very clean. It is not modern or fancy by any means, but very clean and that was more important to us. Also, we fell in love with this little town, it is surrounded by beauty, mountains and the John Day River, and the people in this town were so welcoming and laid back. Lastly, this is a pet friendly space, and we were impressed that there was no evidence of a previous pet being in that space; no animal smells and no pet hair around, Christy the host is doing a great job, we really enjoyed our stay.

    Wendell2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • I’ve stayed in quite a few Airbnb’s around rural Oregon and Idaho and Christy’s was by far THE BEST. VERY CLEAN! AT&T service is non-existent and Verizon is patchy, but it feels very safe and Wi-Fi was great - it was very nice being offline when I wanted to be ;) We came with 5 humans, 3 dogs, and 3 bikes...plus food and beer to consume for all of Memorial Day weekend and it didn’t feel crowded! It’s 3 bed/3 bath (maybe even unofficially 4 bed/3 bath) so all our rooms had their own designated bathroom. We got ice cream from Linda across the street, biked to Mascal Point and the Dayville neighborhoods (would have done more biking around Painted Hills except for the thunderstorms), went to the Spray Rodeo, ran the 5k and 10k races, drank beer at Tiger Brewing in Mitchell, and played cards late into the night as we watched a police car on speed check duty...it was an absolute blast! The town is peaceful and the stars are bright. I can’t recommend this place enough and I hope to be back again

    Devon2019-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • My sister, my dog, and I enjoyed a cozy stay in Christy's 2 bedroom accommodations while visiting the John Day fossil beds. The kitchen was well equipped for preparing the food we brought for meals, including a selection of spices and olive oil. All the accommodations (kitchen, living room, and bedrooms) were very comfortable. Chrity's place is very close to the Sheep Rock unit, but plan on travel time to the other units of the John Day fossil beds (Painted Hills and Clarno). Plan to visit the Blue Basin trails and the Cant Ranch in Sheep Rock unit and colors of the painted hills are best seen later in the day.

    Carol2019-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • Has everything you need for a short or long stay. It is next door to a park. The Sheep Rock Unit is 10 min away. There’s a couple cute restaurants in town if you decide not to cook. Everyone in my party slept so well. The apartment is very well stocked! The towels are soft and beds are cozy!

    Leiana2019-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful spot to get out and explore the huge and beautiful John day area. Make sure to stop by the cafe for a slice of pie while you’re in town.

    Nicole2018-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • This spot is just as charming as the town of Dayville. Plenty of space if you want to hang out around the house, but there’s so much to explore in the surrounding area! We loved how close it was to the John Day Fossil Beds. Great for a weekend getaway.

    Hazel2018-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second stay in Christy's 2-bedroom apartment in Dayville. We choose to stay here again because the location couldn't be better if you want to explore the area. The place is comfy and clean, Christy's response is quick, and the Dayville Cafe is just down the street: really, this is a terrific place to stay!!! Also, if you're going when the weather is cool, you'll be happy to know that the central heating is great, plus the quilts/blankets on the beds are super good! The kitchen has what you'll need if you want to eat in.

Their rooms are lovely, clean and come with plenty of amenities that provide guests with a comfortable stay. They also have an airstream our friends rented that was also very cool and cozy. Into RV camping / glamping? Check these guys out. A must visit for anyone passing through Oregon or looking to spend a weekend exploring the Eastern parts of the state. We’ll certainly be back.

A unique experience and a historical adventure as the schoolhouse is also a mini museum that features many relics from the era in which it was built. Built in 1906, the schoolhouse is restored and a bedroom, bathroom and kitchen have been added. Please note the following: -The kitchen doesn't have a stove but there is a microwave & an electric countertop two-burner hot plate -There is a bathtub but no shower -The hot water heater holds ten gallons at a time -Pellet stove & electric heat
Detox from cellphones and the internet, take your shoes off, feel the earth, get grounded. The new cool is the old school. Come be creative. Put together a puzzle, play a board game, build a card house, make a collage, draw, sketch or write a letter. If you’re looking for a mind-blowing stargazing experience, Twickenham is the place. One of Oregon’s 8 best stargazing spots, where darkness brings the universe to life, is the area of the John Day Fossil Beds, as noted by the Oregonian. The fossil beds lie under some of the darkest skies in the state, which also includes Twickenham. If you have never seen a clear, starry sky from a place devoid of light pollution then you’re in for a real treat. With the naked eye alone, from a dark site, on a clear night you’ll see thousands of stars, meteors, the zodiacal light, airglow, satellites, the milky way, nebulas, and occasionally auroras and comets. You’ll find Twickenham in the darkest sky zone by using the Dark Site Finder. The John Day Fossil Beds is a complex of incredible natural attractions that burst with color in the daylight. The Painted Hills (one of the Seven Wonders of Oregon) and Blue Basin (a Seven Wonders runner up) rank as some of the most interesting and beautiful sites in the Northwest. Have a fun day floating the John Day River or sightseeing at the Painted Hills, and then come stay at the Twickenham Schoolhouse for an evening of stargazing that’s out of this world! You can also enjoy the silence--in the remote and isolated valley of Twickenham the noisiest things that you will usually hear are the coyotes howling at night and the occasional hooting from resident long horned owls, Oswald and Amelia. Garden fresh vegetables, herbs, lavender and flowers grown on the property are available for sale during the summer. Come pick and cook your dinner!
The schoolhouse is located in a remote area of Twickenham, Oregon. Enjoy stunning views of mountains, basalt rimrocks, and lush green fields extending from the John Day River that snakes through the valley. The climate is semi-arid and sagebrush, rabbitbrush and juniper trees dominate the landscape. The schoolhouse is about a mile from the Twickenham bridge, a popular dropping-off or starting point to float the John Day River. The Painted Hills is about a 40 minute drive away and the property is about a 30 minute drive to the towns Fossil and Mitchell.
  • The place was amazing and our stay was only made better by Dicksie’s quick responses and availability to help set up the fire pit and keep us with a big supply of pellets for the heating stove in-doors. The views are amazing. It’s calm and quiet. Julius the cat was always around and is so playful and loving. Will definitely return!

    Alejandro2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is the most unique Airbnb I’ve ever stayed in! Dickse was an amazing host with interesting anecdotes about living in central Oregon and greats tips for cool things to see and do in the area. It was so peaceful and relaxing. A wonderful place to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life!

    Lynn2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed here for two nights with my one year old daughter as a jumping off spot for visiting the Painted Hills. I don’t have the vocabulary for how special this place is so I’ll highlight: The drive (or bike ride) in either direction is a wow but especially from the schoolhouse to Mitchell as you go through a beautiful canyon. The history of the school and the Fitzgeralds is pretty captivating (and especially if you like histories of independent, smart and strong-willed people.) The night sky and coyotes sounding off were indescribable. The host is hands down, one of the best strangers I’ve met.

    Meredith2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The space is unique and fun. A great peaceful getaway. And Dickse was very easy to communicate with and was very helpful!

  • Beautiful and unique stay, close to all the John Day Fossil Beds activities. Can’t beat the scenery and and charm of this spot. It was so peaceful and we felt truly privileged to be a part of this building’s living history.

  • Twickenham is such a neat find! Tucked back into the hills, this place will boast the best night skies you’ve had the honor to see. I was touring the John Day Monuments, and this was the perfect “home base” for me. This may not be your style if you’re looking for a standard “hotel” but it’s a wonderful place to call home for those that are looking for something a little off the beaten path! Dickse has great recommendations and hospitality, and two cute cats! I would stay here again if I was in the area.

    Emme2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! Truly a unique experience! We travelled to see the Painted Hills but the school house in Twickenham was also a wonder, too! There's a lot of history if you're a history buff, but I also think a teacher would enjoy staying here, as well. You will feel Dickse's mother's legacy throughout this building and it's pretty amazing. The kitchen was great. Dickse allowed us to bring a gas burner so we could cook some. There's little mercantiles in Fossil and Mitchell to buy groceries. The bed was comfortable and the heater made it very toasty in the room. The view out the back was gorgeous of the mountains.

    Michele2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Cheapest place I could find in that area and an amazing place to stay. Dickse greeted me when I got there and showed me around the place. She was very welcoming. Her cat Julius is amazing and I love him.

Queen and twin bed with full bath (not attached but within steps) and small loft area. Suits three adults. Full bathroom is shared with other upstairs bedroom. Shared loft has a sitting area, coffee nook with micro wave and mini fridge . Both upstairs bedrooms have a nice view of the Blue Mountains of Eastern Oregon from the rooms and loft. This nice sized room has it's own small refrigerator and coffee pot. Complimentary Breakfast. You have access to decks to view night sky and room to hike.
This room is upstairs in an off grid residence on a ranch where you can hike or just sit on the outside decks and enjoy the view. This is the third bedroom in our bed and breakfast, so if you have a larger group you wight wish to check on the possibilities of the full ground level apartment or the other larger upstairs bedroom. Apt has one queen, the other upstairs room has two queens. There is the Painted Hills Unit of the John Day Fossils Beds National Monument, the John Day River, the Ochoco National Forest, the Sutton Mountain Wilderness Study Area and the Bridge Creek Wilderness areas all reasonable close (Eastern Oregon distances are often fifteen to fifty miles) so it takes time to reach any of these wonderful landscapes. Very quiet setting with opportunities to see wildlife such as a variety of birds and some larger animals such as mule deer.
It is very rural and sits in some of the greatest geological landscapes. Very easy to find Fossils or various rocks.
  • The three-story building of the hill estate was warm and comfortable. The landlord was an amiable old couple and very warm. The scenery on the mountain is also very good, it is a very pleasant accommodation journey!

  • Open house. Open hearts. Open minds. This is a rare gem nestled into velvet hills. Count yourself lucky to be in the company of such gracious and generous hosts. I was concerned about a shared bath and pleasantly surprised to find it an unfounded apprehension. Pull on the robe and slippers then settle in for a memorable stay.

    Sharon2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I visited Painted Hills and this place was about 15 minutes or so away. Be careful of driving here in the dark cause the street can easily be missed. But Bonnie was very clear with her instructions and communicative. She was sweet and checked in to make sure we got in safe. The place was comfortable and had everything we needed!

  • Wonderful one night stay

    Jodi2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful home and gracious hosts on a beautiful piece of property. I'm excited to visit again soon. It was thoughtful of Bonnie and Steve to prepare breakfast, especially because the location is quite remote and there are limited options. There are two rooms upstairs and if someone else is staying there at the same time, you'll share a bathroom and the loft landing area. Our room was clean and just as advertised.

    Rachel2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • To anyone visiting Mitchell, OR or the spectacular landscapes around it, I highly recommend a stay with Bonnie and Steve. Their house is gorgeous and is set up perfectly for those who may want privacy, yet is open and inviting for those who wish to get to know their hosts. The guest room and shared loft space are also comfortable and well-appointed, and you could not ask for a quieter, more peaceful night's rest! I enjoyed roaming the property and visiting the chickens and goats onsite. The location of the house makes it excellent for watching the sun rise in the morning, the moon rise at night, and would be ideal for stargazing. Best of all are Bonnie and Steve themselves. Bonnie made me feel instantly at home, and we shared a few wonderful chats during my two-night stay. She is a brilliant, kind woman who has had a rather remarkable life. The world could use more Bonnies. Steve was extremely kind as well and cooks a mean breakfast! I could not have asked for a better stay, and--without hesitation-recommend Bonnie, Steve, and their beautiful home to any good-hearted Airbnbers. Bonus: their home is very conveniently located for those heading to the Painted Hills Unit, and don't miss Tiger Town Brewing in downtown Mitchell!

  • Bonnie & Steve are very kind & gracious hosts. Their home is quite comfortable & the scenery is spectacular!

  • Bonnie and Steve are wonderful people, and have a lovely home! Their house is truly off-grid, and has practically no light pollution which gave way to some of the best star gazing in my life! Definitely a must stop if you’re in the area!

  • Kind people, lovely home, and fantastic views! The mile up to house is definitely rugged, but doable for regular passenger car at a slow pace. Great jumping off point for exploring Painted Hills and Ochoco mountains. And having a homemade breakfast to kick off each day was much appreciated!

    Diane2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Just like everyone else has said in these reviews, and the reasons I chose this place: SPECTACULAR view, yummy breakfast, friendly and hospitable hosts + cute dog Oliver, fun goats, gorgeous sunrise, great communication, intriguing stories from the hosts, and comfy beds + special touches to make sure we had everything we needed. This stay was everything we needed and more! We’d happily go back anytime. :)

  • Bonnie and Steve are great people. I very much enjoyed my time with them. They home is truly off the grid. I gives one the feeling of living on a ranch. Bonnie had lots of advice on where to go. The drive from the road seemed challenging the first time but the next time it was no big deal. The room and bathroom was spacious and well stocked. I would love to come back and bring my wife.

    Bob2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • A treat for folks who want to have a more personal experience in an out of the way place. Bonnie and Stephen are excellent hosts and their off the grid home is super comfortable and located in an amazing place.

    Anne2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Bonnie and Steve have a beautiful home. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The area is amazingly quiet and remote- perched above a stunning valley with panoramic views. I would follow their recommendations to drive up during the day, because it is a steep, steep way up- and this all leads to the great view!! A very cozy and welcoming house, with GREAT hospitality and breakfast provided in the morning. Bonnie and Steve are great to get to know as well. Thank you both. We will hope to return and explore the one mile hike on the property, and say hello to the goats and chickens again.

    Serena2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • If you really wanted to get away from it all, Bonnie and Steve's places is perfect spot. It's a little bit of a drive up there road but well worth it. After playing the day away in the beautiful John day area. Mitchell is a lovely little town that keeps adding great new places to get some great food and have locally brewed beer. Then head up to the cabin on the mountain. On a clear night I imagine the stars are spactacular :-) I loved my stay here.

    Johanna2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed the spectacular view from high on the hill at Bonnie's home. Since they are truly off the grid, with no cell service, I had planned ahead and made a printed copy of the directions. They were a little confusing, but since we made it a point to arrive before dark, we found the driveway without a problem. Her recommendations about the driveway/road to the house should be taken seriously. In dry weather, with an AWD car, it was not problem, just had to take it slow. The stairs could be a challenge if you have a lot of luggage, but they are wide enough, and there is a handrail on each side. Bonnie made an actual hot breakfast, and we ate family style and felt welcomed by the hosts, the casual atmosphere, and the beauty of the place.

  • Nice spot for a layover on our tour of the John Day Fossil Beds NM. Dayville was a great little town. Growler Fill place had awesome coffee in the morning and the Dayville Cafe gave us a great dinner. All within walking distance.

  • As others have said...this is a very old farm house. Everything is much the same as it was. It is FUNKY with a capital F. However, again as others have said, the areas that needed updating have been completed (bath, kitchen, internet etc.) The house is FULL of antiques and it is really fun to ponder where they came from or the stories behind them. The house was exceptionally clean and all necessary amenities were available. David was a very attentive host. A little secret. It is worth the overnight stay just to eat at the local cafe. The pies there are OVER THE TOP and we aren't pie eaters! Totally a gem of a find in terms of accommodations and amenities. We look forward to coming back.

  • David is an excellent host of a lovely historic home in Dayville. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there!

  • Such a wonderful place to rest and refresh... we wished we could’ve stayed longer!

    Michele Garrard2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • What a great respite from travel and a great base for enjoying the John Day country. The beds and bathrooms were excellent. House is old and has been updated where needed, but left old fashioned where it added ambiance, which allowed us to imagine living in Dayville a hundred years ago. Good TV, game collection, and well appointed kitchen. And clean, very clean throughout. All grounds green and full of fruit trees, berries and gardens. Folks seem to gather in the afternoons to share stories near the old barn. Hosts were attentive, low key, and have put a lot of heart into this place.

    Holly2019-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • David's house was a wonderful first night for our road trip. Clean and authentic, it brought back memories of an earlier time. It reminded me of my grandparents cottage when I was a boy. And a wonderful small town cafe within walking distance.

    Richard2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • The Fish House Inn is such a cute place! The house was much bigger than expected and had a lot of rustic old west charm. We enjoyed hanging out on spacious back patio and and playing Frisbee on the beautifully manicured green grass! Dayville is such a charming little town and it was so awesome to spend a few days in the old west! We had such a great time at the Painted Hills, John Day Fossil Beds and learning about the history of the Kam Wah Chung Chinese Heritage site! There is such a rich history in this part of Oregon and it was very cool to see. The grounds of the Fish House Inn are impeccable and the main house was so beautiful and charming, everything was so peaceful. Everyone was so friendly. There are horseshoes and frisbee golf on site and plenty of board games you can borrow in the office! David was so friendly and accommodating. There is great pie to be had at the Dayville Cafe! This is a must stay if you are exploring the area! We will be back!

Our log home has a lodge look about it. It is set on 180 acres with rolling hills with grass and pines, with mountains behind. It is a great get away for family and friends or groups that want to gather together.
The house is tucked up against the mountains among the pines. Horses roam the hills with ponds in view.
The home is tucked away in a private setting with no other homes in view. Wide view of the valley below.

  • A real home, filled with the flavor of a family who loves interesting things. Although the gravel road is at first daunting, in reality it is only about a 5 minute drive. At the end of the road is a warm and spacious house with lots of personality and amenities. Cows, horses, kitty, and other wildlife are in evidence, so marvelous place to take children from the city. And we adults enjoyed the house too! Comfortable, welcoming, with a bit of whimsy: a perfect place to get away from the stresses of the work-a-day world!

    Lynn2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • What a great find! We had two families with 7 kids and 4 adults. We all had beds and plenty of space. We enjoyed hiking around the property, interacting with the horses and other animals. The stargazing was amazing!

  • We had a lovely stay at Dotty's beautiful home. Close to John Day Fossil beds we got to explore a part of Oregon we hadn't been to yet. Plus we got a relaxing day at her beautiful home. Our kids had a great time playing in her beautiful yard and exploring the hills around us. Enjoyed it so much that we are thinking about when we can come back!

  • We stayed in this home with eight people and had more than enough space for all of us. I also can’t say enough for the setting and feel of the home, I loved the rustic almost wilderness feel. Had wild turkeys to watch out the window every morning for breakfast and multiple squirrels, humming birds, and fish to watch while there.

    Michael2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent all around. Dotty and her husband are tremendous hosts and the house was everything we expected and then some. It’s absolutely beautiful country and close enough to go out and see the sights. Had everything we needed for our stay.

I would highly recommend staying here.

The views from this home are some of the best Eastern Oregon has to offer. Fluffy towels, a very cozy reclining couch and back deck with a view are nice touches. The hosts Gordon and Julie know the area well and gave us lots of tips for places to hike, bike, eat and go antiquing. Checkin was super easy as was check out. This is a place we will be returning to often.

The Gulch sits on the South Fork of the John Day River. An 1880s chuck wagon greets you as you pull into the driveway. As you wind down into the Gulch you will see why the John Day River territory is such a beautiful place.
This space is an open floor bunkhouse layout, with two private baths. 3 Queen beds and a queen air mattress are on the lower level, and a semi-private loft area has a king size bed. Perfect for a family. Also great for hunters, as the bunkhouse is close to several hunting units.
Three minute drive to Dayville. Thirty five minutes to John Day. Fifty minutes to Prairie City. About ten minutes to The Thomas Condon museum and The beautiful Cant Ranch
  • Such a beautiful unique place to stay in Bighorn Gulch. Aptly named as we saw a herd above the property head butting and grazing. Kimmie has made the bunkhouse so inviting with many special touches. Cooking meals in the well appointed kitchen, BBQ’ing in the view of the gulch, stargazing, building a fire in the wood stove with the fragrant juniper wood they provide are just a few of the activities to be had. Will definitely be back.

  • Kimmee is an awesome host and the space is amazing. I absolutely plan on coming back. Amazing stargazing. Thank you Kimmee!

  • Great host and bunkhouse. Perfect for my family trip. Thanks Kimmee

  • This place is a love affair with the old west and Oregon. Amazing amenities and nature (Stars and Creek) were unbelievable. Host was thoughtful and provided some wonder personal touches like home made salsa and local coffee. My kids especially loved it. Everything was decorated so classy. My only regret is that I did not stay for more time. Three nights was not enough!!!

    Mark2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the “Bunkhouse” was 10 stars out of 5! We could not have enjoyed our stay more. The bunkhouse is brand new, with lovely furnishings and appliances - so beautifully appointed in a western theme. So many thoughtful touches from our owner! We loved sitting out around the firepit in the evening watching 10 big horn sheep meandering and foraging as they climbed the hill in front of us. We cannot wait to bring friends and family back again and again!

    Jan2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed staying here as a family. We loved the western theme and it was the perfect accommodation for our large family. Kimmee was such a thoughtful host even leaving us some yummy homemade salsa to enjoy! She has stocked the place with games, provided a place to sit around the fire and it's a short walk down to the river. It was a fun place to stay while we explored the John Day area!

  • Perfect location for exploring all of the John Day Painted Hills National Monument! Mitchell is quite the tiny, sleepy town, but we had a great meal at Tiger Town Brewery, and everyone we met was super nice! The house was great for two couples, and our dog LOVED having a large, fenced backyard to play ball in. The sunrises over the hills seen from the backyard were spectacular, and the star gazing at night was beyond amazing! Erin & John were great hosts, and provided tons of great information on things to do, places to go and what to see in the area - I highly recommend their place for your next trip to explore the beauty of this part of Oregon!

  • Felt like home away from home, very comfortable, clean and stylish. Great accommodation for such a remote area. The Brew Pub in Mitchell was a huge plus!

  • Erin and Johns place is amazing. We had a wonderful time in their cozy house and huge backyard! Their place is so clean and has so many thoughtful touches. Thank you for opening your home to us!

  • Beautiful home with well maintained and functional yard. Flash hot water heater reallyhelped when we got back from a long day of hiking as a group of 5. Everyone could shower without fear of no water. Simple quality of life amenities that arent even in the description such as a single cup Keurig and very nice cookware. Very very clean and comfortable. Decorator has good taste. You will love this house.

    Colby2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Erin and John were always quick to respond. I really appreciated the detailed notes and tips. I felt like I didn't even need to plan on where to go as thorough information was provided. Easy check-in instructions and loved the binder of detailed info in regards to the listing. The space is beautiful and spacious. The listing is conveniently located with only a 20 minute drive to Painted Hills. We also drove to John Day to visit the Kam Wah Chung museum. It is a must-see and a fascinating place to visit. I highly recommend this listing.

    Lucy2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • What a great experience. We had everything we needed and then some. We ate out for dinners and cooked breakfast in. Erin and John put a lot of work into the info book - we did next to no planning for this trip and they had all of the information we needed already prepared!

    Stephanie2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent location. The Brewery in town had good food and beer and well as great service. The house was very clean. Kitchen was well equipped and pretty of towels in the bath. Erin and John were very responsive. We left something at the house and the sent it to us promptly.

  • Stay here! Kimmee's home is enormous and well-appointed with everything you could need and more. The kitchen has a ton of space and everything you need to cook full meals, and was large enough for 4 coworkers to prepare dinner separately. Comfy beds and tons of space for a group much larger than ours (and 3 bathrooms means you'll never wait). Kimmee has added some special treats that shows she's going the extra mile to make her guests feel welcome. Strong and fast wifi too. We had a minor issue with the washing machine and Kimmee was quick to respond and had someone out to fix it the next day (with our permission for access, which was also appreciated that she checked with us first). If you're exploring the John Day Fossil Beds NM &/or Painted Hills, skip the sad town of Mitchell and stay here instead - you can't go wrong!

  • The Auxier Ranch House is quite lovely. Spacious for families. There were 5 of us. Two couples and a 5 year old. The views from the back deck are beautiful. Lots of birds to watch as well as agricultural activity. Great place to grill and have meals. A sun shade would be nice for the hot eastern Oregon sun. The house is stocked pretty well. The washer/dryer is free just in case you were wondering based on the website description. My only issue was the sulfur smelling and tasting water. I’m not into buying bottled water but I did for my stay. The location is perfect if your visiting the paleontology center at John Day Fossil Beds. In town there are a few places to buy water and other needs, as well as a cute coffee shop. The locals are lovely people. We did play at the town park. Great place to see crawfish and get down the river! I would stay again if I’m in the area with group as well as recommend the location to others.

    Jennifer2019-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • A group of work employees stayed here and really enjoyed the scenery, new construction ranch style home, and fun amenities like essential oils in every room. Kimmee was great to work with and very responsive. Would stay again for leisure!

  • Kimmie and her team were amazing! Communication was quick and easy, the place was clean and well maintained and as described, no surprises. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks Kimmie and Team!

  • We had a fantastic stay! The location is super convenient to the John Day Fossil Beds and a little under an hour from the Painted Hills. We had two families with a total of 4 adults and 5 kids and had plenty of room to spread out. The kitchen was large and easy to make meals to feed a crew. Would definitely recommend!

    Kellie2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • This manufactured home is so warm and cozy! There’s absolutely nothing that was lacking in terms of accommodations, including kitchen accessories. The location is very quiet, allowing you to be consumed with the beauty of the surrounding nature. The master bedroom could be living quarters in itself. The space is massive, has an inviting sitting area, a comfy bed, and a large tub to soak in. Kimmee was very attentive, hospitable, responsive to communication, and cares about your stay. She truly wants everything just perfect.

  • We spent a long weekend at the Tin Cottage, using it as a home base to explore the John Day area- the Painted Hills and the Strawberry Mt wilderness. The cottage was very comfortable, charming and roomy for the four of us traveling. Violet has made her house extremely welcoming and we appreciated the homemade cookies and the items left in the fridge. Beds were comfortable and the showers were great. We used the outdoor fire pit to make smores (ingredients supplied!). Communication with Violet before and during our stay was easy and prompt and she had suggestions for dining and activities. Wonderful stay!

  • The tour was amazing, and the Indian company was awesome! With his experience he showed us and told stories about the places! It is very worth it!

    Luiz2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place! The house was beautiful, clean, comfortable, and well stocked with kitchen supplies, games, and DVDs. It is especially nice that they provide shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and body soap. Barbara was very friendly and welcoming and had great suggestions for things to see in the area.

  • Really beautiful and stimulating setting. I can’t imagine everyone won’t enjoy this place!

    Susan2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • We are very happy with the tour, I indicate for couples or people who like the calm of seeing the sea with other eyes, the opportunity to explore calmly without using polluting fuels. I also liked that "Indian" taught my husband to row and left us alone on a safe beach; with my husband conducting the Hawaiian canoe. We saw turtles; starfish and some species of fish. Sensational my best experience on Ilha Grande;

    Lidiane2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • We did the Hawaiian canoe ride with my partner the days we were in ilha Grande. We loved the experience. Carleandro worried about adapting the ride according to our interests and transmitted his passion for what he does throughout the tour. When we return to the island, we will surely repeat the experience!

    Francisca2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a week in Ihla Grande and this was one of the best experiences on the island. Carleandro (Indio) met us at the beach, consulted us for our opinion and interests and thus proposed the crossing. At all times pending of us, while telling us about the places we visited and struggled to find what we most wanted to see and saw, a sea turtle. Thank you

    Jorge2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • In the middle of some beautifu countryl is this little gem of a house. It is whimsical and eclectic but more importantly comfortable and welcoming. There is not a lot in Mitchell but Aruna and Barbara make sure you are aware of every possibility in the area and how to access it. The garden was lovely and the house has everything you will need.

    Candi2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Surely the best experience I had in Ilha Grande, we can admire the calm and beauty of the island at sunrise. The host shares his passion for the sport and introduced us to the history and culture of Hawaiian canoeing.

The wifi was fast and consistent, and there were any number of fun games to play. the bedrooms were spacious and the beds comfortable, with extra blankets and pillows if needed. The bathrooms were many, clean, modern, and there was lots of hot water. For your further entertainment there were flocks of turkeys wondering through, and every now and then, a few deer (even once a buck with nice antlers)! I would not hesitate to come again!

  • The hosts' recommendations are not to be ignored! We hit them all and were not disappointed. Best swimming holes, some fishing spots, hikes - and meeting some of the locals in town was really fun. The mayor gave us a ride up the hill at one point! A great escape from all things city, but without the camping! The sunset deck is awesome, and the cottage overall has plenty of room for 2 families with kids. Mitchell is a great place to day trip from and see the area.

    Kevin2019-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • Aruna And Barbara’s place is truly an oasis, not just because of the lush gardens which feel somehow a trick of magic in the dry landscape, but also the warm welcome and friendship extended to us all in this tiny rural town. It's also got charm galore! The lower level space with it's rows of handbuilt beds in a row was so cute. Can't wait to return!

The hosts are really nice and the place is spotless, easy to access, and really comfortable. A really well maintained space! Will stay again if back in the area!oved it!

  • This is a perfect place for a stopover. The small apartment is clean, the bed is comfortable and the interior is designed very lovely. It is a western style decoration with many items of the owners. We had a great night and loved talking to Clay.

  • This place is beautiful and quiet. The hosts are very kind and the room was extremely clean. If I can give you any tip when your GPS takes you to their house, their road is to the right and their house is the one farthest up the hill. I was a little confused because it tells you that you have arrived before you did.

    John Day, OR, United States

Hill Crest Cottage, built in 1900, is one of the earliest homes in the village of John Day. This charming vintage cottage sits at the crest of the knoll, and a short one-block walk leads right to downtown to many shops and restaurants. The cottage is the perfect place to relax and step back in time, with its wonderfully-equipped kitchen, a beautiful perennial garden, and an front porch on which to relax and watch the world go by.
Important Notice: All lodgings in Grant County, Oregon are required to collect a transient room tax of 8% of the rental charged. Per the method of collection recommended by Airbnb, you will receive a line item in your bill for the "Grant County Room Tax" at the time you finalize your booking of the Cottage.
We love the location of our Hillcrest cottage, as it is a short one block stroll to the small downtown. There are several restaurants, shops and a pub, all within a five to ten minute walk. There is easy access to the hospital and grocery store, and guests can head out easily in any direction to visit all the tourist sites in Grant County. We are very centrally located. This is an ideal location for our long term guests, who come to work in Grant County... so close to the airport, Forest Service and hospital!
  • Very nice place

  • Carolyn and Tom's place is so cozy, comfortable and welcoming. Clean, onsite parking and a walk to JD's restaurants, coffee shop. They were very responsive when needed. Highly recommend. My favorite airbnb in JD and PC, to date.

  • A lovely cabin that is so well-stocked with spices, cookbooks, pots and pans, etc. There is enough room to stretch out, but the overall feeling is cozy. The decor is charming and interesting. Also, the cabin is located close to town, with a nice outdoor patio. We suggest visiting the Kam Wah Chung Historic Site/Interpretive Center and the Painted Hills (west of John Day, north of Mitchell). This is a peaceful spot that a family or couple can enjoy. Carolyn was very helpful, too.

  • This is a real treasure- very cozy, relaxing place - a home away from home with “country charm”. It had everything you could possibly want in the kitchen, including a variety of spices. A nice intimate yard and porch to relax in. Only a block or so from a small , quaint country town. A few nice restraunts. Quiet and peaceful. We went to mostly hike around the fossil beds and historical places of nearby towns

  • A great space. Super clean, quiet, private and well-stocked with everything you need. Front porch and side garden offer thoughtful space to relax alone or with family.

  • The cottage is a charming place, just a two-minute walk from downtown. Homey, comfy, sparkling clean, and equipped with all the kitchen stuff we needed and more. It got a little warm in the afternoons but the AC unit took care of that! A friendly next door neighbor, too. Carolyn was a very attentive host. Seems like as soon as I sent her a question, I got a helpful response. We would definitely stay here again and heartily recommend the place. Thank you, Carolyn!

  • Charming doesn’t quite describe how amazing this cottage is. We fell in love with it the second we stepped in the door. The cottage is cute and cozy and was perfect for our stay. My favorite part was sitting on the front porch rocking chair every morning with my tea. There is a great antique shop with amazing finds right across the street and restaurants in walking distance (same street). The host, Carolyn was quick with responses and very sweet. We will be back!
