We wish we had spent more than one night, but that one night was wonderful!! We loved star gazing and the wood burning fireplace. Feeding the ducks and the gorgeous sunrise! The Peacock House is located within the Lismore Demesne. It was once the dairy and workers cottage. From the 1980s onwards it was used to house peacocks, giving the cottage its name. After being left dormant for 80 years it was lovingly restored three years ago. These days it is a bright and cozy cottage offering tranquil views of mature trees and park land. There is private access to forest walks along the Doney Stream just outside the doorstep.
Cavan is famous for it many lakes, offering fishing, water sports and walking trails. The Peacock House is ideally located for guests who are attending events in Farnham Estate and Kilmore Hotel.
  • Sonya was a great host, very responsive, and she delivered a basket of wood for the fire each day making the stay very homely. The house is perfect, very clean and cosy.

  • Such a beautiful cottage in lovely countryside, the house is really cosy, fully equipped with wellies and a basket of slippers, log stove in the main room - which Richard & Sonya keep fully stocked with logs! Would definitely recommend for a quiet country stay in relaxed surroundings

  • Beautiful surroundings. Well stocked. Very welcoming. Loved all the animals. Great location

    Sean2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely house. Beautiful log fire and views of the countryside and farm. Lovely and quiet. Added bonus was the Nespresso coffee machine and all the kitchen amenities and leaving breakfast in the fridge for us to cook the next morning was a great touch. Really fast and responsive hosts when communicating. Great stay.

  • This little house is an amazing place to stay. With a full kitchen, lounge room, deck area, fields to walk in, chickens to watch, donkeys to pet, you couldn’t want for more! Sonya is a fabulous host making sure you are toasty and warm with a fire and have everything you need including eggs fresh from the rescue chickens for breakfast. The space is modern but homely - I cannot recommend this place highly enough!

    Shani2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet, cosy location. Unusual and interesting property. Sonya is a thoughtful and attentive host. I really enjoyed my stay and would stay again.

  • The perfect getaway to a country cottage. Sonya and Richard we're super accommodating, very friendly with attention to detail. The cottage was perfect, spotlessly clean and with all the amenities you would need. I was pleasantly surprised with the touches Sonya left, the breakfast foods, the coffees, the juice etc. It was a cold February weekend and Sonya ensured to keep the fire going for us even if we were not at the cottage which was lovely. We were there for a Wedding near by in Farnham Estate and they even brought us to the venue on the day. The whole place was so cosy, I had a great nights sleep in the bed and there is a pub across the road which is good for a drink or some food and its only 10 mins from Cavan town. We had a busy weekend and unfortunately did not get to explore the land around the cottage, but I will most definitely be back to explore further. I have been singing it's praises so much that friends have just booked to go to Peacock lodge in 2 weeks time. :) Thank you

Dotted with shimmering lakes and rivers, this area of Ireland is a genuine boaters’ paradise. THE SHANNON-ERNE WATERWAY The Shannon-Erne Waterway traverses 62.5 kms of lake and river and still canal sections. With 16 fully automatic locks, 34 stone bridges and 6 fully serviced mooring areas, the waterway invites you to enjoy cruising, fishing, walking cycling, canoeing, golf and horse riding along Europe's longest navigable Inland waterway. Work on the original canal started in 1846 and took 14 years to complete. The dream of permanently joining the great Rivers Shannon and the Erne was fulfilled. However the canal remained open for only 9 years as the age of steam and the railways rendered the canal redundant. However, in 1994 the canal re-opened, and now pleasure cruisers ply the old waterway once again. The waterway exquisitely weaves together the streams, rivers and lakes which are picturesquely scattered between Leitrim Village and the Erne. Sixteen locks will ensure the waterway is viable and the variety of landscape and wildlife, as well as the great historical and archaeological sites en route, guarantee the popularity of this superb and peaceful highway. For the first time in 150 years, 300km of navigable waterway can be enjoyed by lovers of walking, cycling, canoeing and sailing. RIVER ERNE Eighty-four km of the River Erne is navigable from Belturbet to Belleek in Co Fermanagh. There is only one lock on the system, Portora Lock. Services are located at many locations along the river. Having been a trade route for the Vikings, the Erne system has never been a modern commerical navigation. It is truly unspoilt and tranquil leisure oriented expanse of water for boating enthusiasts and game and coarse anglers. For further information including maps and guides to both the Shannon - Erne Waterway and River Erne, contact Waterways Ireland or Inland Waterways Association of Ireland Cavan's beautiful and rugged countryside can also be enjoyed from the saddle. • We had a lovely stay over New Years Eve and my husbands birthday. The chalet is beautiful and tastefully decorated. The kitchen has all the utensils you need to stay in and cook and the living room heats up quickly when the stove is lit. Beautiful views and the doggies really enjoyed themselves too! Liz and Susie were so accomodating with early check in and late check out and messages were replied to really quickly. We will highly recommend and hopefully be back soon.

  • Delightful chalet in a perfect peaceful location, in a small gated private estate, beside River and forest. Great communication form Liz and Suzie, we had self check in and found the house easily. We loved the layout, open plan kitchen diner, with wood burning stove. Stove kept us so toasty, so we didn't need the electric radiators. Views of the river erne from the sitting room and veranda. We had everything we needed, best equipt rental we have ever stayed at. Surprised to find a bottle of wine, enough tea, coffee, hand soap, toilet rolls, wood for the stove ect... to get us started. We brought our own as other reviews said there were no basic supplied. Everything was perfect, It could not have been better. We booked activities (clay pigeon shooting and buggy karts) in an Adventure centre that is 20mins drive, which was excellent. I totally recommend this house for family getaways. We would definetly return.

  • Travelled with a group of 8 friends and a toddler to Albertine Lodge and it was a perfect stay. The location was very easy to find. The size of the house comfortably fit all of us and had all the facilities we needed. It was freezing outside but the house was extremely well heated. The hosts were very quick at replying to queries we had over the whole weekend. They even accommodated early check in and late check out as it suited the needs of some of the guests. Highly recommend. Thanks again Francis and Fiona!

  • We went here for an extended family weekend - 6 adults and 4 little kids. It was such a lovely stay. The house is perfectly laid out. Fiona and Francis were so attentive and responsive. Great value, great location, great hosts. Can’t recommend it enough

  • This is an amazing place to stay. My friends and I spent the weekend at Albertine Lodge, during Storm Ciera, and it couldnt have been more cosy and welcoming. Fiona and Francis made sure we were warm and the fire was well-stoked. It's a very beautiful, traditional home. The sort of place I've dreamed of all my life. I would recommend it highly.

  • Gorgeous house, spotlessly clean and loads of room. We got mini bus into Carrick for one night and were given great recommendations for restaurant and local pubs. Would definitely recommend the house and the fantastic hosts who were more than helpful. Thanks for a lovely stay!!

    Gillian2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • The house is perfect. It is even bigger than we expected with loads of bedrooms and toilets, a very cosy sitting room, and a huge open kitchen/dining area. The location is really close to a few towns so you are near anything you might need. The best part about the experience was the hosts - they thought of absolutely everything (e.g. they had the fire on and kettle boiled for us when we arrived, they made books of suggestions for anything you could need), and were really easy to contact when needed. Overall, the cleanliness and attention to detail was on par with any hotel, but it was also a very cosy, homey space. Will definitely be back!

  • The Albertine Lodge was a beautiful home just 10 minutes away from the quaint town of Carrick-on-Shannon. We were a family of 7 so it provided everyone with their own rooms and plenty of room to hang out in as well. Lovely accommodations and very clean. Francis and Fiona left local goodies for us upon our arrival. Francis went above and beyond in providing us with suggestions of things to do in the area, as well as being readily available for any questions we had. We had an amazing time and only wish we could have stayed longer!

Aidan and Catherine are extremely unobtrusive and the animals , and the fact that our own dog came with us , really made it very special for the children .

There was also a barbecue, a real log burning fire inside for relaxing and cosy nights in and for a real treat, a hot tub to soak in in the evening. • Our second time staying at McCormacs Farmhouse. Once again the house and grounds were so lovely. We were staying during Storm Ciara, so we couldn't make use of the lake etc but the house was so cosy it didn't matter! The new Sibín is so cool, you really feel like you're in an old Irish pub being served some poitín! Will absolutely be back AGAIN to see PJ the pig 🐷

  • What a magical spot with breathtaking views. If you want to reach out and touch a piece of history and true Irish heritage then you should plan a stay at this beautiful farmhouse and area in general. Stayed with a group of 3 of us and there was plenty of room for more. The outside space for group fires was all set up and ready for use as we pleased. We are very thankful for this experience and we will remember for the rest of our days. Thank you once again for everything John and Sinead!

    John2019-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • The farmhouse is a beautiful get away place that was perfect for our family. It has great personality and we all loved PJ, the pig and the donkeys and PJ’s Buddy. I highly recommend the farmhouse as a perfect place for a group to come together. Also would be perfect place for a party outside!

    Kathy2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • This property is amazing! Every corner has hidden “gems” of the house’s history and the family tree, amazing views and just a genuine sense of home. We traveled all throughout mid and Northern Ireland, and this was our favorite by far. John and Sinead always responded quickly and were very accommodating!!!

  • Magical stay! We were totally in awe of the place and area when we arrived and had such a relaxing time. We spent most of our time cooking, eating and relaxing outside in the beautiful barn, full of history and fun. The adults, children and animals loved it. We made great friends with PJ the pig. Feels liked the rest of the world is a million miles away which is great when you need some time out. Can’t wait to return!

  • Sheena's cottage was a lovely space for us to relax on our own with the escalating health crisis when we were in the area for a friend's wedding. We had heard of people getting their reservations and hotels cancelled, but Sheena kept the reservation and maintained her distance as a precaution. She had such nice touches like giving us essentials like milk, tea, butter, bread, biscuits, orange juice. We did have a toddler with us, so we couldn't take advantage of the lovely wood stove, and generally had to block it with a chair so he didn't play with it or bump it.

  • Charlie was an amazing host , very helpful and extremely friendly. Explained everything on arrival, had the fire lit the apartment was lovely and cosy. He had food and snacks for us so we didn’t need to run to the shop as we landed late enough. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back.

  • Bluebell Farm is a beautiful, authentic Irish farm set in the countryside. The apartment we stayed in was completely self contained and had everything you could ask for amenity wise, plus lots of extras such as great selection of board games and books, netflix and a really generous welcome hamper filled with eggs, bread, cereal, tea, coffee + loads else which is more than we could ask for and saved having to worry about popping to shop etc. Charlie kindly offered to take us around the farm which we loved and even provided us with some wellies! My little girl loved seeing the animals, walking around the grounds and Charlie was an interesting, informative guide as well as a great host, and we appreciated the time took to show us around. Ate in nearby Kierans restaurant as recommended by Charlie, really impressed by food and was reasonably priced too. All in all, great place to stay in the monaghan / cavan area, or even just a great spot to go if you fancy a break away from everyday life in a peaceful, serene setting.

  • I am lost of words writing this review, if you plan on visiting Ireland Michael's place is a must stay at. Not only was the house lovely, clean and warm but his presence, hospitality and warmth was out of this world. when no other places would accept us during the covid- 19 lock down, Michael trusted us and let us stay at his place, i dont think there is an other place on earth that i would rather be isolated in. I want to keep writing about how lovely this experience was but I am going to stop at- THIS IS A MUST STAY AT PLACE!! DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS EXPERIENCE !!!

  • Lovely cottage with a great host! It has everything we need for a nice stay. A gem!

    Willem2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is an authentic experience for sure! Michael was a fantastic host. Its clear he's very passionate about the cottage and surrounding areas. Filled with local knowledge, and history he's happy to share. Lovely little touches like fresh butter and bread were much appreciated. Very helpful and accommodating to all our questions!

  • Stayed in the cottage with the family was a great Irish experience and Mick remarkable hosting and storytelling provided a wonderful time during the storm Dennis. Mick had always the Little touch to bring into life each objects in the house and the surrounding. We stayed 3 nights, a group of 6 (3 adults and 3 children) I really recommend it to disconnect from day to day activities.

    Rony2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • We spent two nights at Nanny Murphys and we couldnt recommend it enough! Mick had the fire and candles lit for us, as well as leaving some local bread and jams for us to sample!! We stayed during a very cold snap in January but the cottage was very warm and cosy at all times. Mick helped us with ordering taxis and sending us in the right direction for some hikes and local attractions. The cottage is a "one of a kind" find that really holds on to a traditional Irish feel. There is a local shop within a 2 min drive if you need anything, with a larger town 10min drive away. We will definitely be coming back!

    Therese2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful break at the most gorgeous and cozy cottage you will find in Longford. Michael was super welcoming, funny and dedicated host. He contacted us ahead of time to make sure we had the directions and had the cottage ready with candles lit and a fireplace warming out all the home. He also left for us some delicious local treats (marmalade – bread – milk – butter as well other pantry goods..) Staying in that location is a true time trip in time but with the amenities and commodities of the modern day home, a unique experience that we will repeat for sure!

    Pat2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Michael was an amazing host. He made us feel at home straight away. The cottage is absolutely beautiful and Michael should be very proud of his achievement of rebuilding this wonderful thatched cottage. He was a fountain of knowledge and history, providing tips of where to go and places to see. Definitely a home away from home. Thanks again Michael x

    Paula2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend the cottage. We had a fantastic Time. Mick was an amazing host, such a gentle, funny, wise man even showing us around the village, helping us get food for Xmas day. We would definately go again.

18th century coachhouse with modern & clean decor set in 25 acres of our organic beef farm. Coachhouse is a separate 2 storey building with private entrance with 2 bedrooms with open plan sitting room. Local amenities include fishing, walking, golf, horse riding & water sports . The property at front is vicarage built ca. 1780 is main family home and in the rear courtyard is the coachouse. There are 2 great village pubs & supermarket within walking distance - nearby is swimming pool, cinema etc.
The coachhouse was built over 200 years ago which was the servants quarters on 1st floor with animal housing below. Building has original limestone cut stone exposed on interior living area with original stoneworks on the exterior.
Our countryside is very typical of County Monaghan with drumlin rolling hillside, green pastures and lakes and rivers every few miles. Our area is very much rural Ireland where farming and agri-farming plays a key role in the locals livelihoods. People are very friendly, helpful and always take time to speak to visitors.
  • My sister and I came up for a couple of nights looking to get away from Dublin. This is a stunning space, Joan and Martin have done a fantastic job of creating a cozy and modern space within this old outbuilding. It was quiet and comfortable, just what we were looking for!

  • We spent one night with our 3 children while attending a local event. The accommodation was all I expected and more from reading the previous reviews. It was lovely and warm and cozy on a stormy night. Everything we needed was provided. Excellent audiovisual set-up as well. We’ll be looking for an excuse to come back and explore Monaghan.

The dishwasher is a real plus and all the necessary equipment is present and really facilitate the holidays. GPS is highly recommended to get around this lovely place. The telephone contacts with the owners are simple and effective, the latter having at heart to make the stay as pleasant as possible.

  • This Airbnb is pretty and convenient. I could cook there everyday. I don't have my car but I could use local bus.

  • We only met Ann Maries parents, but they were really lovely. They gave us great local advice. We had a pleasant stay!

    Davina2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • For us it was the pefect place to stay. We had a great time exploring the area and relaxing in the evening "at home".

    Birgit2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I were visiting family in Cavan and Ann Marie's place was perfectly located for easy travel to and from relatives. Ann Marie was extremely prompt in her responses and we were greeted in person by her parents who were very hospitable throughout our stay whilst also allowing us our personal space. The place was immaculate, wonderfully cosy and the thoughtful additional touches such as scones, biscuits and toiletries were much appreciated! Although we had rented the car, the local bus route was also at our convenience. We would definitely recommend staying here and would happily stay again on our next trip to Cavan!

My place is close to Annalee River (great for fishing) and great walking trails. You’ll love my place because of Idyll rural Irish setting on river overlooking 350 year old bridge across Annalee River. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and families (with kids). Close to Cavan Equestrian Centre, golf courses and quality hotel spas etc. Minimum 2 people for 2 nights.
About 1 hour 15 minutes from Dublin airport and 2 hours south of Belfast airport. Only 10 minutes drive from Cavan town. Close to equestrian centre and within walking distance of Ballyhaise village where with an all purpose supermarket where you can buy meat, bread, milk, groceries, wine etc.
  • The house is huge and really cosy. There were 4 of us and I'd say another 2 would still be comfortable. There is a large space outside and it would most likely be a perfect spot for summer bbq. Perfect for girls weekend away a the spa is only 15min drive:) Highly recommended.

  • Thank you! We had an excellent stay with you which was terrific through from booking to leaving. We were a mixed party of 10 visiting Ireland for a wedding nearby so this location worked out perfect for us and having the pub next door was definitely an added bonus. Cathrina was very prompt with replying to our messages and Art was awesome over the weekend making sure we had everything we needed. We would highly recommend staying here! For navigation we found the app WAZE more helpful than google/ apple maps.

  • From initial booking through to final day everything was excellent. Great Hosts and a very special Irish hospitality. An ideal venue for families and those on Tour ( we were a party of 6 Golfers) - Everything on hand and Art (Host) made sure we had everything we needed. Even drove us all to a local golf course ( as drivers were a little worse for wear!). Deserves all credit for a relaxed stay in Ireland. Staff a credit and i'm sure that is because the hosts take such care. BE WARNED!!! WE WILL BE BACK 100%. Thank you Paul & the Guys

Perfectly quiet at night and we all slept the best that we have for ages! Will certainly stay there again if available, and Michael was very accommodating and helpful. Thank you so much.

    Scott2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay in a lovely wee house, located very close to Blacklion and the Cavan Burren Geopark. Quiet location, nice house, would definitely use again. Michael was very quick to answer all and any queries and made the trip very easy to arrange

    Dave2019-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay with no problems, thanks Michael!

    John2019-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very comfortable house in a beautiful and quiet spot. Michael is a great host. This was my second stay and I’d go back tomorrow if I could.

    Brendan2018-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • The location is excellent for accessing all the local sites and even just to do a walk on that road the views are great. Very close to Blacklion but you still need to drive as there is not a great taxi service from Belcoo and Blacklion so you would need a car at night time

    Marian2018-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Michael's cottage for 3 nights with my family. The cottage was great, Michael guided us through everything, from how to use the heating system to what visits could be done nearby. He even had left us with a welcome package! The location was perfect for our needs, we came for a running race at Florence Court and the cottage was just a short 10min drive away! We were also able to spend some time in the Geopark (which is also 10min away). We would definitely come back to this place!

Kitchen was big enough to easily cook a family meal. The patio was great for the dog as it was fenced off. Beds were very comfortable, place was really warm and the coal fire was a treat. Will defo be back in the future.

  • We had a great stay. Thanks so much. Kath refused to leave - she wanted to buy the place/Blackie and Susie and move to Ireland. I had to be very persuasive to get her to come home. Thanks to you and Annette for your great hospitality. Would love to come back again. This place is so beautiful - has a great view, terrific fireplace, was so warm in winter, privacy, all amenities you could want plus some special gifts for us on arrival. Highly recommended.

  • Kathleen’s place was wonderful. My stay was middle of winter and my room was bright and cozy. It’s sparkling clean and she was cleaning every time I saw her. The shower had lots of hot water. She was wonderfully friendly and fast at communication. The walk to city center took no time and the food was excellent. I booked for only one night but I wish I could stay longer and plan to come back. A great Airbnb experience! Thank you Kathleen!

  • Absolutely wonderful place to stay. The house was so big, and there were 14 of us, it was so warm and welcoming. The sun room overlooking the lake was such a bonus. The kitchen facilities were second to none. The house was warm throughout, we stayed there on three very cold February nights. I couldn’t fault the place in any way. Minor problem with wifi which was fixed in less than five minutes. Wonderful hosts and a pleasure to talk to on the phone. Do yourself a favour, stay here for as long as you can.

    Dave2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay with our group of friends and children. The house is very well equipped, spacious and was warm on a cold December weekend. Some lovely extra touches like Christmas trees and decorations.

    Áine2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic spacious house. Worked perfectly for our family get together (14 of us). Quick responses from the owner to all queries before arrival.

    Orla2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • I spent the weekend here with my family of 11 adults at the end of September 2019. The house is exactly as pictures on website, very spacious and clean. It feels so private and tranquil in this home and the grounds surrounding it are gorgeous. Our family stayed in and cooked both nights so we're very thankful to see a double oven. I would recommend having a car if you are staying here to get around. Everybody in my family loved this house and have already talked about coming back again in the summer when the weather is better as it would be the perfect place for a summer bbq. Thank you to Jody and John who were the perfect hosts and kept in touch constantly, from the point of booking till check out. They even allowed us to bring our dogs with us which is very hard to find these days. I would highly recommend staying here to anyone.

  • We stayed at Herons Rest for two nights, a large family group with adults and children for a family get together. We loved our stay, the house was warm and so comfortable, and well designed for a large group. All communication was excellent and the place was spotless. The bathrooms in particular were fantastic and a big hit with all. As John predicted we spent most of our time in the conservatory watching fish jumping and the resident heron popping in. We all agreed this place was something very special. Thanks John and Jody for a wonderful stay, we could not recommend this place enough!!

  • The stay at Breffni house was the dream AirBnB experience. From checking in with Norbert, who was warm, friendly and helpful, through to the spacious, comfortable apartment. Norbert went above and beyond in providing some home comforts, as well as being on hand throughout the stay for any help or advice. The location is perfect for the local history in the Boyne Valley, as well as being close to a lot of the best lakes in the Cavan area. If you’re into fishing, the large living space would be perfect to store your rods while making a tasty Irish breakfast! With secure car parking thanks to the electronic gates and CCTV monitoring, you can’t get a better experience in Cavan, let alone Virginia by staying here!

    Simone2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • We spent three amazing days in Norbert's accommodation. It is very clean and everything looked new! We felt like we visited our family house because host, Norbert was very welcoming. The location is very good to visit Irish ancient heritage such as Loughcrew. We highly recommend this place! :)

Little attentions awaited us (milk and cheese in the fridge, several types of bread on the table, yellow vests in case of night walks on the roads) and the welcome was warm and attentive. We recommend +++

  • Very private, spacious and stylish house in such a great little idyllic area. Melissa was so welcoming and the place was spotless. Would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

  • Melissa’s place is central to Finea, right next to a small grocery store and two nice pubs. The house is large, comfortable, with all required amenities plus some nice additional touches like fresh flowers. We enjoyed staying there very much !

  • Melissa’s place was a great stopover for me and a couple of friends, who were looking for somewhere to stay in the area. The village is very sweet, and we spent a really enjoyable evening at the pub over the road with some of the locals who were all very friendly. Melissa was very helpful and gave us a number recommendations for places to visit nearby. Thanks for hosting us!
