APARTMENT WITH BREATHTAKING VIEWS, HISTORIC CENTRE

Entire apartment hosted by Carlo
6 guests3 bedrooms3 beds1.5 baths
Entire home
You’ll have the apartment to yourself.
Because the house is taller than those surrounding it, each room enjoys plenty of light all day long and there are stunning views over rooftops, churches and town monuments. The balcony offers fresh air and a peaceful view of the surrounding hills.

The space
You’ll find La Gardenia in the heart of Todi, an Umbrian hilltown famous for its picturesque winding streets and breathtaking views. It has been recommended by Lonely Planet’s Tuscany/Umbria edition, and it is easy to see why. This is a place where you feel instantly at home, because the apartment belongs to an Italian, not a foreigner using it as an investment. It has been in the family for generations and the owner has personally seen to its decoration. The result is an eclectic and harmonious combination of cherished family heirlooms and stylish contemporary pieces. At La Gardenia, you’ll be welcomed as a traveller -- even a member of the family -- and never an anonymous tourist.

The apartment is situated on the upper two floors of a traditional stone-built house dating from the Middle Ages. Because the house is taller than those surrounding it, each room enjoys plenty of light all day long (many such houses can be dark and damp), and there are stunning views over rooftops, churches and town monuments. The balcony offers fresh air and a peaceful view of the surrounding hills.

The First Floor has a formal living-room with lovely 19th-century antiques and 2 bedrooms (1 double and 1 single) connected by a full bathroom. Both bedrooms have fine views.

The Second Floor has a dining-room with a table for four which leads out onto a balcony with beautiful views over the hills to the south and west. The sunsets behind the cupola of the famous Renaissance church of the Tempio di Santa Maria della Consolazione are amazing. There is a fully equipped kitchen open to the dining-room on one side and a sitting-room (with sofabed) on the other, and a single bedroom with half bath.

The narrow streets of Todi are beautiful but can also present parking problems. Directly in front of La Gardenia is a small piazza where you stop to unload your bags. And only a few metres down the road there is unlimited secure free parking.

Guest access
This is a typical, family-owned apartment with beautiful views of the city of Todi , as well as a panoramic vista of the surrounding countryside. Experience the typical Italian life by walking the cobbled streets, shopping, trying one of the numerous restaurants and having an aperitivo in the evening during the hour of the passeggiata, where you can see the whole town out on their evening stroll.

Other things to note
The free parking area is indeed only 5 minutes away -- you have to walk downhill from the apartment to get to it, uphill to get back to the apartment.

Todi, Umbria, Italy

Todi has numerous restaurants where you can try the typical cuisine, including dishes featuring the much prized black truffle. On a budget €2 will buy you a panino di porchetta (sandwich of whole roasted pig which has been stuffed with vegetables, herbs and spices and roasted,) the fast food of Umbria. The fixed porchetta stand is 10 minutes walking distance from the apartment, however, on Saturdays there are no fewer than 5 porchetta stands dotting the city, so you can find your favorite. In spring, the peppery wild asparagus is wonderful in fettuccine and in fall there are a myriad of dishes with porcini mushrooms. The fresh pasta shop 5 minutes outside the city wall will make pastas, filled pastas and lasagne to order if you call in the morning.

There are a number of possibilities for working off all of the food and wine if walking the hills of Todi doesn’t do the trick. Hiking in the mountains is for the truly fit. For those in normal conditions, walking on one of the unpaved roads is a relaxing experience. There is a running track 2 minutes drive from the city walls and a parcourse in the center in the park of the Rocca. Horseback riding can be found 20 minutes away.
