Charming, tidy artist’s cottage nestled in rustic woods close to town and minutes to world class Aurora viewing. One bedroom, sleeping loft, bath, kitchen, living room, deck, shared garden/barbecue area, and surrounding forest. Relaxing and rugged off-grid atmosphere...a real Alaskan home away from home! Check out Vicki’s Art in the Spirit studio with her original paintings, prints and gifts...a short path through the woods.

The space
Come experience a taste of village Alaska in your own cozy and private cottage, surrounded by a park-like wooded setting in the Goldstream hills minutes from Fairbanks and the University of Alaska. Wildflowers and berries abound in the summer while aurora viewing is spectacular the rest of the year! Salmon’s Guesthouse has one bedroom, loft, bathroom, living/sitting room, stocked kitchen, freezer, and outdoor barbecue... original art throughout. Winter dog-mushing is available through additional arrangement. We also have a kids play area, trampoline and sledding area. There is ample parking for both cars and motorhomes. Surrounded by nature and close to Murphy Dome, cycling, hiking, skiing, and the botanical gardens, this is a great place to enjoy the quiet beauty of Alaska! You will often see wildlife including moose, fox, rabbits, and ptarmigan. There are two friendly labs who call this their home and stay in their own outdoor area. We love our furry friends, however, due to allergies are not able to accommodate indoor animals. This is a cozy house perfect for 2 guests. For your comfort, maximum occupancy is 3 adults or 2 adults/2 children.

Salmon’s Guesthouse is a peaceful retreat from the hectic pace of daily life... come relax, make yourself comfortable in our little “Salmon’s Village” and enjoy this corner of backwoods Alaska! Mahsi Choo!

Guest access
Guests have a private cottage with access to surrounding woods, barbecue area, garden, hammock, deck. Piano in log cabin by arrangement.

Other things to note
There is a dog musher living several streets away....very interesting to see...you may hear the dogs faintly during their feeding time. This is very normal for rural Alaska!

Winter heating is typical of rural Alaska with a new Toyo oil stove along with an electric heater and wood stove. We are happy to light the woodstove for you to enjoy a bit of traditional village life! Most of the time this is just for the “rugged ambience” however, occasionally we experience a cold snap (-20 to -50!) and then it becomes a necessity. Welcome to Alaska :)

Be sure to keep an eye on the aurora trackers at Explore Fairbanks and the UAF Geophysical Institute. We are close to optimal aurora viewing!

Our dogs are friendly, secured, and typically very quiet. If a wild animal were to enter the property, (such as a moose, rabbit, fox, bear)...they will bark for our security. This is just part of rural Alaskan life.

Price includes 8% Fairbanks North Star Borough bed tax.

Off-the-beaten-track feel but minutes to town. You might want to walk around and are welcome to do so. Our neighbors are all pretty quiet..dogs tied up. There is a little red fox that occasionally passes through this area, several rabbits, and an occasional moose family.

Willie is Draanjik Gwich’in from the Yukon Flats, a heavy equipment operator and builder. Vicki grew up an Air Force dependent of Scandinavian heritage, in cities such as Tokyo and Washington D.C. and recently retired as a village principal/teacher. She enjoys creating music and art. What is the story behind our home? While Willie was serving as tribal Chief of the Draanjik Gwich'in and Vicki was teaching at Tsuk Taih School, they found themselves traveling often between the Yukon Flats and Fairbanks. This undeveloped property became available and they plunged in with chainsaw in hand while living in a canvas wall tent and cooking over a campfire (the old Alaska way). After the first year they had carved out a driveway, homesite and the little cabin you are staying in. They then began building the log house using traditional practices. Willie was raised partly by his grandparents, First Traditional Chief Rev. David Salmon and his wife Sarah. Rev. Salmon was Chief of Salmon Village on the Salmon River who led his people to Chalkyitsik so the children could attend the newly built BIA school in the 1940’s. Willie learned the traditional Athabascan and subsistence ways of life, including the value of hard work! So there is always a new project happening around here whether chopping wood, processing wild game, or building a wood shed to prepare for winter. Lot’s of adventure here! Welcome to our home!
