Where you’ll be

Glasgow City, Scotland, United Kingdom

The apartment is located in the heart of the bustling Westend of Glasgow, a 10-minute walk to the city centre. Situated on the North bank of the River Clyde between the city's West End and the city centre. Home to the SECC and SSE Hydro, where many musical concerts, sporting events and conferences are held.

Voted as one of the “hippest places to live” in the UK by The Times, Finnieston has transformed itself into a culinary hub with some of the city’s most exciting bars and restaurants located here on “the strip” on Argyle Street, solidifying Glasgow’s reputation as a place for fantastic food, drink and entertainment alongside a thriving hub of creative businesses.

So why not dive straight into discovering Finnieston’s food with the award winners? Those who love their steaks will enjoy a night at Porter & Rye with its dry-aged beef and inventive cocktails, or if seafood is more your thing, book a table at Crabshakk for a simple and delicious menu full of freshly caught produce from the Western Isles in Scotland. Ox and Finch offers beautifully presented small plates for sharing, packed full of flavour and colour. Fine diners will find The Gannet as a must visit, with its stylish contemporary Scottish menu consistently praised for its quality. Newcomer Alchemilla boasts an Ottolenghi chef in Rosie Healy, alongside a stunning interior that’s got to be one of the most distinctive in Glasgow. The common theme with all of the above? They’ve all been featured in Michelin’s Good Food Guide, meaning you won’t be disappointed no matter which restaurant you visit.

But there’s so much more on offer to wet your appetite – consider the modern, Italian inspired dishes at Mora Bar and Kitchen, more rustic fare at Villa Toscana, or traditional tapas at Rioja in a bohemian feeling setting. Local favourite Fanny Trollopes serves up the finest Scottish seasonal produce in a friendly and bustling bistro setting, and those looking for vegan options are well catered for at The 78, an all vegan restaurant and bar with a great drinks selection and even open mic nights too.

And if you’re planning where to dine in advance, make sure to check out Six by Nico, one of Glasgow’s hottest restaurants boasting a unique concept. Every six weeks, the restaurant changes its menu to a completely new theme, comprising of six delicious courses. Tables book up ridiculously fast so don’t dally if you’re interested!

Those with a sweet tooth shouldn’t miss Tantrum Doughnuts for amazing hand-made doughnuts with flavours like pistachio and hibiscus, crème brulee and banoffee pie, Tantrum truly offers a doughnut you won’t get anywhere else.

Being such a trendy area means that street food is of course well represented in Finnieston, with the likes of Dockyard Social street food market. Set indoors with live music in the background, Dockyard Social prides itself on its carefully selected list of vendors providing top quality comfort food that’s also ethically sourced. With all dietary requirements covered and even four bars serving craft beers, cocktails, and select wines, it’s a great place for the foodies to spend some time in the city.

If you’re making a day of visiting this neighbourhood, don’t miss your chance to visit the Riverside Museum right on the River Clyde, designed by the late Zaha Hadid. Awarded the European Museum of the Year in 2013, this distinctive building houses all types of transport with plenty of vintage cars and bikes to pore over. There’s even a cobbled street depicting life in Glasgow from the turn of the 20th century, and you’ll be able to walk around and even pop into some vintage shops too.

Outside, there’s even more history to explore with the over 120 year old SV Glenlee (known as The Tall Ship) berthed right outside. This Clydebuilt ship has circumnavigated the globe four times and now rests proudly outside the museum as a popular visitor attraction. As one of the few remaining Clydebuilt ships in the world that’s still afloat, it’s the perfect opportunity to step aboard a piece of maritime history.

And just a short stroll away from the museum is the newly established Clydeside Distillery, an exciting addition to Glasgow’s whisky scene. Take a tour of the distillery to see the craftsmen hard at work creating a new single malt whisky, savour some of Scotland’s best whisky and enjoy the amazing views over the Clyde.

One of the biggest draws of Finnieston is the presence of The SSE Hydro arena. As one of the world’s busiest live entertainment venues, this amazing arena is constantly hosting global stars and features a fantastic programme throughout the entire year. Slightly off the beaten track is the offering at SWG3, a multipurpose venue that regularly hosts gigs, exhibitions, clubs and much more. With both venues located conveniently close to the main Finnieston “strip”, it’s a great chance to enjoy some brilliant entertainment alongside the fantastic dining of this neighbourhood. For more evening activities, there’s also the area’s well known traditional pubs too, serving the country’s finest drams and pints. Look out for Ben Nevis, The Islay Inn, and The Park Bar for a great selection of drink with regular traditional music nights and a warm welcome. Elsewhere you’ve got the finest White Russians at Lebowskis, amazing cocktails and food at The Finnieston, and the stylish surroundings of Kelvingrove Café to enjoy a tipple in.
