From the apartment, you can take a leisurely five-minute stroll due south, until you find yourself right on the waterfront promenade with a magnificent view of the Atlantic. From there you can continue your stroll down the promenade where you will come across a variety of open-air cafés serving all sorts of local delicacies. In the other direction, you’ll find the historic “Mercado dos Lavradores” at the bottom of the main street (Rua Fernão Ornelas), 5 minutes walking distance from the apartment, where you can purchase all sorts of fresh fish, fruit and vegetables. Once immediately past the “Mercado”, you’ll be in the Old Town (Zona Velha) where you can lunch or dine in any one of its dozens of restaurants which serve traditional Madeiran dishes, to the sound of live “fado”.
