Our Centre is a little piece of heaven hosting up to 11 guests (5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms). It's at the end of the famous Timber Trail Cycle Way and on the 2500km NZ Walking Trail (Te Araroa). The Centre is set along a trout-filled river, with orchards & fields, and a hot tub for 10. Next door - a 30 metre swimming hole with beach, Alpaca Farm, Forgotten World Railway & Wanganui River Kayaking. Within an hour - Waitomo Caves, Lake Taupo, and the Alpine Crossing/skiing at Tongariro National Park.

The space
Timber Trail Centre has three large buildings (all over a century old and built from native timbers):
1. a 120 year old Millers Cottage
This old Cottage used to house timber millers in the old days and is where our Guests now stay. The cottage can host up to 11 guests (5 bedrooms each with an ensuite bathroom). Guests can use the shared kitchen, dining rooms (2), lounges (2), laundry, BBQ, hot tub, recreation room and extensive gardens and orchards.
PLEASE NOTE that for those who aren't bringing food with them, we can provide a big range ingredients for all three meals (email us with your needs).
2. a beautiful Church (which your hosts live in), the oldest building in this part of New Zealand and
3. a century old School House with 5 metre high ceilings, huge windows, a large recreational area, library and pool table - also available for guests.

Guest access
Guests can use all of the Miller's Cottage, a five bedroom 120 year old building, lined with timber, plus the hot tub (when fired up) and the School House (see above). Cars may be left parked on the property if guests are away on the cycle way, on the understanding that this is at the guests own risk.

Other things to note
If the weather's cold, there are extra blankets and electric heaters available in the Cottage and a heat pump to warm the kitchen/dining room/lounge.

Location

Ongarue, Manawatu-Wanganui, New Zealand

Our region has one of the most concentrated set of recreational activities in NZ - swimming, bicycling, walking, ski-ing, rafting, kayaking and even sailing, all within about one hour's travel. The Timber Trail Cycle Way, which ends at our Centre, has been rated one of the top 100 things to do (by the Automobile Association), the National Park Crossings Walk an hour away is now the second most popular tourist attraction in NZ and the Ruapehu Ski-fields are the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. On top of that, we have some of the best trout fishing in New Zealand.

Food & Bike Hire/Transport

For those who aren't bringing food with them, we can provide a big range ingredients for all three meals (email us with your needs).

If you need to rent bicycles or have them transported to the beginning of the Timber Trail Cycleway, you can arrange this with our next door neighbour at Flashpackers, or with other companies such as Timber Trail Shuttles or Blackfern Lodge. We don't recommend using Epic Cycles as they don't pick up customers in Ongarue and they need to leave their cars in a distant unlit car park with no security.
