Palazzo Grimani — A Noble Piano Nobile Steps from San Marco
Welcome to Palazzo Grimani, an exceptional piano nobile set within a prestigious seventeenth-century palazzo, just steps from Piazza San Marco and the refined Via Xxii Marzo. It is a residence with a lineage few addresses in Venice can claim: the palazzo was built by the Grimani, one of the great patrician families of the Republic, who over the centuries gave Venice three doges, two cardinals, and two bishops.

Following a meticulous restoration by its English architect owners, this three-bedroom residence has been returned to its original splendour — its atmosphere, scale, beauty, and ceremonial elegance preserved with the eye of those who live in it themselves. The result is that rare combination Venice so seldom offers: genuine historical significance in a truly central setting.
The Residence
Behind the palazzo's elegant cream stuccoed façade, two short half-flights of stairs lead up to the piano nobile, where a pair of double doors open onto a breathtaking central salon.
The room announces itself at once. Original stucco mouldings, picked out in delicate pinks and greens, frame imposing gilt mirrors and a magnificent Murano glass chandelier, while six tall French windows fill the space with light and open onto a long balcony above the square. The outlook takes in the Gritti Palace Hotel opposite, with enchanting side glimpses of the Grand Canal beyond.
To the left of the salon lies the formal dining room, once the palazzo's sala della musica. An elegant table seats up to fourteen beneath a spectacular chandelier; around the walls, moulded plaster trophies of musical instruments hang from swagged garlands, and overhead the ceiling depicts Apollo among dancing maidens, painted by Costantino Cedini, a pupil of Tiepolo. An intimate breakfast area flows from here into a fully equipped kitchen, finished in refined sage-green cabinetry, with a discreet guest powder room close at hand.
Bedrooms & Private Spaces
Master Suite — A magnificent antique four-poster, draped in swags of blue silk, anchors a room grand enough to carry two enormous paintings with ease. The suite has its own sitting area and a luxurious en-suite bathroom with both bathtub and shower.
Biedermeier Suite — More nineteenth-century in character, this room pairs Biedermeier furniture with a trompe-l'œil coffered ceiling. It offers a private dressing room and a spacious en-suite bathroom with walk-in shower.
Further Guest Bedroom — A third private double, with its own dressing room and walk-in shower room.
Mezzanine Library — An intimate library set on the mezzanine, once the palazzo's minstrels' gallery, looking down over the dining room below.
Altogether, the residence comfortably accommodates up to six guests.
Heritage, Perfectly Modern
Every element here — from the period furnishings to the tableware and bespoke linens — has been chosen by the owners for their own private use, with the same care they bring to every detail. Contemporary comforts are present throughout but never intrude: integrated air conditioning, rain-shower systems, and modern technology have all been discreetly concealed, so that nothing distracts from the historical elegance of the interiors.
To stay at Palazzo Grimani is to live, however briefly, within a genuine Venetian aristocratic palazzo — its grand rooms, painted ceilings, and canal-side balcony as much a part of the day as the morning coffee. It is heritage and modern living held in rare and accomplished balance, and the unmistakable feeling of belonging to Venice rather than simply visiting it.
