NOTE: For winter camping, depending on weather and road conditions, you may have to hike or snowshoe up to 1 km to reach the yurt. This is a real backwoods experience! Our camp is a private, 300-acre wilderness, bordering on the pristine Salmon River as well as Cade Lake. Relax by the toasty wood stove, chop firewood, and hike or snowshoe through the rolling landscape of forests, granite, and river. Centrally located between Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal, and near Puzzle Lake Provincial Park.

The space
Located in the rugged Land O’ Lakes region of Eastern Ontario, the Salmon River Wilderness Camp is a private, 300-acre wilderness, bordering on the pristine Salmon River as well as Cade Lake (a small lake, part of the Salmon River system).

We offer a rustic, but comfortable camping experience, in a large, fully insulated private yurt, just steps away from the frozen river and lake.

Activities include hiking or snowshoeing for kilometres along the beautiful Salmon River, chopping firewood, relaxing by the toasty woodstove, and enjoying a cozy evening stargazing through the domed skylight. A winter paradise! IMPORTANT NOTICE: Do not walk or snowshoe on the river, lake, or ponds. The ice is often very uneven and could be extremely dangerous.

There is no running water and no electricity.

The trails are not suitable for ATVs or snowmobiles - no off-roading allowed on our property. Also, hunting is not allowed anywhere on the property.

Guest access
NEW WINTER BOOKING PROCEDURE:

We have pre-emptively blocked our January through March availability calendar to prevent guests from potentially booking a stay in unsafe winter conditions (i.e., dangerously frigid cold, icy roads, snowstorms, etc.) Over the winter, we will be opening the yurt on a week by week basis only after first checking the weather forecast for that week. Please check our availability calendar a few days before you would like to book a stay during these months, thank you!

We can provide dry firewood for the firepit for $10 per large bag (enough for one or two nights by the campfire). If you would like any campfire wood, please let us know and we will update your reservation. (Note: We provide all the wood you will need for heating the yurt for free.)
Includes:

- 17' diameter insulated yurt (226' sq. ft.)
- woodstove with plenty of firewood and kindling (cooktop large enough to boil water and heat stew or soup in a small pot)
- queen bed with futon mattress, fitted sheet (no top sheet), wool blanket (for extra warmth), & two pillows with pillowcases (you still need to bring your warmest winter sleeping bags!)
- tabletop propane barbeque/grill and Coleman camp stove (both with plenty of fuel), metal spatula, and tongs
- full set of utensils and tableware for two: knives, spoons, forks, bowls, saucers, plates, stainless steel glasses, mugs
- camping percolator, plus coffee and assorted tea
- kettle for boiling water
- small pot for heating soups and stews
- salt & pepper, olive oil, sugar
- large glass lantern & candles
- tabletop lamp that plugs into a regular electrical outlet - if you have a portable power box (not included)
- rustic dining table & two chairs
- dresser with six drawers
- antique washstand
- rustic night table, with a small selection of books and magazines
- first aid kit and fire extinguisher
- broom & dustpan
- clean, private outhouse & toilet paper
- picnic table with benches
- basin for washing dishes, dish soap, scrub brush, dish cloth, & hand towel
- board games: chess, checkers, Scrabble, and more
- two pairs of slippers
- outdoor fire pit at the campsite

What to bring:

- food & water
- cooking equipment
- warm clothing
- bedding (warm winter sleeping bags are a necessity - we supply just a fitted sheet, wool blanket, & two pillows)
- towels
- toiletries
- flashlights
- firewood if you plan on building any campfires (or you can buy some from us ahead of time - please see our note above)
