Location is not in town, which we liked. The house was as described. It’s an older home with tons of charm. Each bedroom had its own private bath. We did not cook so I can not comment on the kitchen. I would stay here again. The grounds and lake are beautiful.

If you are staying the area, Abe's place it a great place to stay! Home is such a comfortable place to stay with all the necessary amenities plus some. Really appreciate Abe being proactive and responsive to our needs. When we come back, we will be staying here.

The Birdhouse on the Rio - A South Texas Retreat

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. The pictures on AirBnB of the grounds and lake looked too good to be true. It was even better than that! It's your own personal wildlife refuge. I came to south Texas for all of the famous birding national refuges, state parks, etc. (which really were amazing!) Yet, I found myself wanting to get back early each night to The Birdhouse on the Rio just to see what I could find. An amazing cast of characters live there and many other guest stars come for a visit! Even if you're not a birder and just enjoy nature, there are more peaceful places to sit outside at The Birdhouse than the inside of most homes. If that's not enough, the house is just about perfect and the owners are so welcoming and thoughtful. That was the best rental at which I've stayed. A huge thank you to the owners for doing their part in providing a natural habitat for all of our feathered and furry friends... and sharing it with us.

The retreat provided a picturesque gateway, an array of family-friendly activities, a serene pool and backyard, and a home that surpassed all imaginations. We will definitely be back soon and Tatiana was an amazing hostess!!!

This house was beautiful, felt very comfortable. This was exactly what we expected from the pictures we saw. Host was responsive and attended to our needs. Our family looks forward to coming back to visit.

Juan was very quick to respond! The time we visited was hot, so having AC was a plus. It was also nice we could park the car inside the gate vs on the street.
