How to select the type of space guests will have

Let guests know how much privacy to expect.

When choosing where to stay, guests want to know if they’ll be sharing the space or if they’ll have it all to themselves.

Airbnb provides 3 options when you list your space.

  • An entire place: Guests are the only people in the space, which in addition to the sleeping area usually includes a bathroom, kitchen, and separate entrance.
  • A private room: Guests have a bedroom to themselves, plus access to shared areas, which can include the entrance, bathroom, and kitchen.
  • A shared room in a hostel: Guests sleep in a shared room in a professionally managed hostel with staff on-site 24/7.

In an upcoming step, you’ll describe your place in your own words. You can include details that clarify which spaces are private and which are shared. For example, if you host an entire place and will be on the property, you might write: “We live in a separate house that shares the backyard with the guesthouse.”

You can always update your listing if your situation changes.
