How to participate in the Go To Travel Campaign with Airbnb
All around the world, the tourism industry supports local economies that have been impacted by disruptions caused by COVID-19. We know that many hosts may have made preparations in anticipation of increased travel to Japan before, during, and after the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. While those preparations may be paused for now, we’re excited to announce that Airbnb will be participating in the Go To Travel Campaign in Japan.
What is Go To Travel?
The Go To Travel Campaign is a nationwide program designed by the Japanese government to stimulate domestic tourism and boost the local economies. Here’s what you need to know:
- The government-funded program subsidizes domestic travel up to half of the total trip cost
- Under this program, 70% of the subsidy will be a discount for travelers at the time of booking, and 30% of the subsidy will be issued as vouchers that can be used during travel
How will participating in the Go To Travel Campaign impact me as a host?
If your listing(s) are eligible to be discounted as part of this Campaign, guests who book a stay on Airbnb will receive a government-funded travel discount equivalent to 35% of the cost of the trip (capped at ¥14,000 per person per night). In addition to this discount, guests will receive a coupon worth 15% of the trip cost (up to a maximum of ¥6,000 per person per night) to be spent during their trip.
Note: The government will cover the 35% discount for guests, which means that eligible Airbnb hosts will be able to earn the same amount of income through this program.
In order for your listing(s) to be eligible to be discounted as part of this Campaign, please be sure to complete your registration at the Go To Travel website as soon as possible.
When does the Go To Travel Campaign launch?
The Campaign is scheduled to officially launch on Airbnb in mid-October and will last until the government announces its end.
