“We (3 friends) had a fantastic stay at Foxhill Chalet. Glorious sunny weather and very cold temperatures but the chalet was always warm and cosy. The chalet is well equipped to self cater. There are other chalets in the vicinity but none you can see, so it is like being in your own private winter wonderland. Just what we'd been hoping for. You will need a car to get about and do shopping. We stocked up in Kemijärvi on our way to the chalet and picked up extras during the week from the nearest shop in Joutsijärvi about a 15 minute drive away. If you're worried about driving on the snowy roads, don't be. Much more pleasant and beautiful than driving on the very traffic congested roads I'm used to. There are many day trips you can do. We had a couple of days locally and enjoyed the novelty of the nearby ice road. We also visited Riisitunturi, Oulanka and Salla. We happily walked in our winter boots on the main trails. Snow shoes are only required for the less frequented trails that aren't cleared. We didn't cross country ski but there were loads of groomed trails for those that are looking for this. The northern lights even came out on a couple of evenings. You can see them through the trees from the chalet. If you want a better view I'd advise getting into some clear space such as the frozen lake about 6km away. All in all, a most enjoyable week.”
